@Tadams91 The guitar is a Taylor Koa K22ce 30L. Great mid tones and lows. I have a Martin D42 that sounds a bit like this Taylor. Taylor cost more. Thanks for the nice compliment. Peace to you, Sherrill
Nice job making the song your own. Most people just copy a song to a "T", nothing wrong with that either, but it's cool to see people do stuff in your their own style. NICE JOB!
@lowchops301 Thanks very much. This song is special to me. Did my best take, some of the style might be from what I remember of being on the stree. Thanks again. Peace, Sherrill
@IntScout3 Thanks for a nice compliment. Perhaps I should put a video showing how to play this. I don't do tabs but I cound show the chords and with that anyone could do the musical score. The trick on this one is getting the lyrics all in, in places the words go pretty fast. Peace and thanks, Sherrill
Very nice cover my friend. This is one of the songs I have used in my learning of the guitar, which I have been playing for a year and-a-half now. I love the song.
@StevesLens Thanks very much for the compliment. Glad you liked the song. This is a good song to help with your guitar playing. Several different ways to play this. Good luck, I'm sure you've come a long way in the year and half you been working on playing. Sherrill
@MadeWithFlames Thanks very much. The strap is special, made of Teak wood and Koa wood that matches my guitar. Employee found it in a shop in Memphis Tn. Thanks for the comment. Sherrill
Excellent! You really made it your own! Nice guitar too, pretty and she sounds really nice too! I had a nice acoustic but my cousin stole it on me. If he hadn't gone to another state, I probably would have beaten him senseless for that lol. You know how it is, you grow attached to an instrument once you have owned it for a long time. Anyway, GREAT cover, I'd go as far as to say it's as good as if not better than the original! Definitely going on my favorites list!
@CthulhuDarkLord Thanks very much for such a great compliment. I'm very sorry to hear about your guitar. What a shame. If I were near you I would try to help you get another through all my musical friend connections. Keep the faith. Another guitar will come your way and you'll be back on the road to making music! Good luck. Sherrill
@sadsun1988 Thanks a million. I have an open week at a recording studio curtesy of the owner. He wants me to bring just my acoustic and record a bunch of my own songs. He markets to country, rock, hip hop, rap, and gospel studios. Said he thinks some of my stuff will sell. I plan to do that soon. Thanks for the compliment. Sherrill
@karasu0330 Hi. I got this strap as a Christmas present from on of my employees who lives in Memphis Tn. I us it with my all Koa Taylor K22ce 30 Limited. Perfect match. I asked the employee where she got the strap and went to the music store. They told me it came in with a bulk batch of straps they had ordered. They only got one of this modle. Its made of Teak and Koa wood. I wish I could be of more help. I suggest looking on line or shop the music stores. Good luck and thanks. Sherrill
@bleufishtv Thanks for the compliment. Yea, I suppose I need to accept I am an elder to some, No big deal, its just a number to me. What we feel in our heart and how we act out our lives is what counts. In that reguard, I am still in my prime! Peace, Sherrill
Really enjoyed this, thank you. Managed to bring your own feel to it, whilst staying faithful to the original. Nice to see all the positivity it evoked in the comment section too, so many videos on here descend into empty slanging matches within 5 comments. Every time I see a senior doing something inspiring like this, it gives me a little more faith that if I make it there, maybe it won't be so bad. Respect
@returnoftheredeye Thanks very much for such an insightful comment. For me, singing is putting myself into the lyrics to help get the feel. Never thought of myself as a senior but I suppose I am. One things for sure, we're all on the road to find out what's next. Life if good. Go for it wherever you are, whatever your condition. Peace, Sherrill
@returnoftheredeye I get lots of comments every day and I appericate every one of them. I came back today to read yours again. Your comments really say a lot. I appericate what you said very much. Thanks again, Sherrill
Fantastic cover Sherril! But I'm not to sure about you doing Johnny Cash covers, just wouldn't like to try to match his voice my self! All the luck though.
@Siiafu Johnny Cash has such a deep voice I don't think I could sound exectally like him. Would just be an attempt. Thanks for the nice compliment. Sherrill
@Lunaxporch Thanks for a great compliment. I plan to do some Johnny Cash covers soon. We ride up and back and see people all around. We really don't know what its like for many of them. Peace, Sherrill
@undrcoverlouky Thanks for listning. And thanks for such a compliment as "I felt it". That is the true message I'm trying to relay in this song. I felt it too. Peace, Sherrill
@sherrillwallace Man... I've been on the streets. I love this song. It has feeling. You give it much more feeling. I love it. Thank you for going ahead and posting it.
You know....I usually can't stand these fan covers. I don't know what made me click yours, but I loved it. This song is very powerful, and you did it very well.
@HereticalPoet Thanks for such a nice compliment. I think I sing this song feeling the full meaning of the verses. I have been a street person and I can tell you it is no fun. I'm doing ok now, but I can still feel where I've been. Sherrill
I have my share of problems being bipolar and stories like yours are a real inspiration. Sometimes you just have to sit back and let other people show you how lucky you are in life; to show you it's worth the fight.
I'm glad to hear you are on the road to recovery. Don't give up friend. Sometimes its not easy but I know you can get to where you need to be. Peace be with you during these Holiday Seasons.
@corning1 Thanks man. I'm glad to hear you're making progress. Just keep trying and the Lord will take care of you. I know this, He has saved me. Peace during the Holidays! Sherrill
Nice job man. This song reminds me alot about my life. Domestic violence- saw my mother get beat up in my front yard as a kid. Dad quit talking to me, then found out he wasn't my biological father anyway. Alot of fighting, stress, and anxiety- Childhood an utter disappointment really. But somehow I avoided drugs and jail and now have a masters degree and the beginnings of a future. Still dead broke so you got me beat on that one! Thanks a million. Take care.
@RockBottom4 I'm sad this song reminds you of the things you describe about your childhood. So often it leaves a scar that never goes away. You do have some things to be thankful for, no drugs, no jail and a MASTERS DEGREE! That is a great accomplishment for anyone! With what you've already overcome and the accomplishments you've made, I would be willing to bet you won't be broke for long. Good things will come to you if you continue to strive. Good luck my friend. I wish you the best. Sherrill
I love this. You breath a different feeling into this. A sort of soul that comes from the heart. It feels like more than just words. I can really dig this. Way to make this song even better. Kudos, good sir.
@CarlsonOfTheArmy Thanks for a great compliment. These words are from the heart because I've been in and around the things I'm singing about in my life. Whitey Ford wrote the present day living blues when he put this on paper. It seems so natural when I sing it. Again, thanks for the nod and for dropping by. Sherrill
@lilldcboy58 Learn from the old man because you're going to be one soon. You're only as old as your mind tells you. I say go for it. I like all this music so I play it when it hits me. Appericate you dropping by. Keep it between the ditches. Peace, Sherrill
@Cobbe354 Thank you very much. If this song has a special place in your heart you owe it to yourself to pick up a guitar and learn to play it. Its only 4 cords and they are easy ones. You decide, and I will send you a demo or there are hundreds posted here on YT. Thanks again and GO GOR IT! Peace, Sherrill
@25ostrich Thanks for dropping by and comenting. You know, you're right. I do conjure images of the guy in the first. The truth is, I lived that exact life after I left our run down shack of a house on a 40 acre patch of dirt at age 17. I left walking, no contacts and no place to go. 11 kids and mom and dad in a 5 room shack. The street wasn't much worse. But I had an unusual gift for a person in my fix. I was smart. IQ is 139. Today I own a $130mm company. Isn't life strange. No offense taken.
@thomascow1 I really appericate your comment. I still like this song as it speaks of me when I was a younger man. Thanks for the stars, peace Sherrill.
thats a very good cover both instrumentally and vocally. i love this new take on the song. i understand that this video is a couple years old, but that doesnt mean its not good. this song is such an eye opener to people who have never felt this type of thing. what type of guitar are you using? i like it.
@slayersyndicate Thanks for the comment. This song had a personal message for me and I knew I had to do it the first time I heard it. Music does convey in a way some people never notice...but some do get it. I'm playing a Taylor custom shop K22ce 30th anniversy limited. Rather expensive considering the inroads I have made in life. Thanks for taking the time to listen but more importantly to make the observations you did. Peace to you, Sherrill
@mannic55 I was messing around in the 60's. Too young to play the clubs. I will admitt I rocked from about 1975 forward. We had a hot gig tonight and headed to next one tomorrow night. Wish me well. peace, Sherrill
@DangerD205 Thanks a million for the complimnet. I could have used a thumbs up too but I appericate you taking the time to listen and making such a nice comment. peace to you, Sherrill
@sherrillwallace The only people who gave you thumbs down are people who sit at the liquor store begging for change, or had their balls cut off, or were in a gunfight and lost.
@PVFDstation9 Very nice compliment. Glad you liked this one, especially this one as it was sort of my younger life. I hit it big and its all different for me now. Sure, I'de be glad to send you a pic. Send me a private message with your address and your name and anything special you want written on it. peace, Sherrill
@CactassDupree Thanks a million. You can play. It just takes practice but with You Tube even that is not so hard. I really appericate your thumbs up on this one. It gives me 100 thumbs up so I really appericate it. peace to you, Sherrill
@seahawkers101 I've gotten thousands of compliments on my songs and in personal concerts. This is the best 3 word one I think I ever got. I'm gonna remember it. Most in my crowd are musicans and now when I hear something I think is over the top I'll say "like a boss". Thank you very much. Sherrill
@PureMetalBrute Thanks for the comment on my beard. I plan to let it grow to the length of ZZ Top. Only difference is theirs has a tint of red, mine is solid white. I've had a beard since 1976, don't know what I'de look like without it! Peace Brother, Sherrill
@bbuccaneerfan87 Thanks for the epic beard comment. Actually I play in a band and we cover ZZ Top material. The beard is longer now. When I add the cheap sunglasses the gig is on. peace, Sherrill
@bbuccaneerfan87 Thanks for the comment on my beard. I plan to let it grow to the length of ZZ Top. Only difference is theirs has a tint of red, mine is solid white. I've had a beard since 1976, don't know what I'de look like without it! Peace Brother, Sherrill
it's okay that u used the profanities, because this is a deep deep song. it's not like everlast was using just for the heck of it. great cover by the way keep it up
@wushock1991 Thanks very much. Yes, there is a powerful message in theis song. Without the correct lyrics the song just didn't deliver that message to me. peace, Sherrill
@vazqum1 This one is real eazy. D minor, F, and C. Use the little finger on high e string 3rd fret-pick up index finger. Between verses just slid the D monor down two frets. Watch my fingers. Good luck, Sherrill
Thanks for the quick response Sherrill... Unfortunately I have issues with the F Chord, I can only play it as the Bar chord... and then at the time to do the change from F Bar into C, It is still kind of complicated...
Im still learning this stuff you know... Thanks again, and much respect Man...
I just read your description...I used curses when I forgot the lyrics. I was really feeling the curses, coming from a real [bad] place. Just be forewarned. :)
@TheCalm25 Know what you mean. I have never liked those places I put in this song. That day I said I'll do it like the artist did it. I still have mixed fellings about that. I don't use profanity in my daily life. Doing so here is so unlike me. Thanks. Sherrill
@TheCalm25 Thanks a million. GLad you like my version. Somewhat of a true story for me, living on the streets and all. I sure would like to see you version. Good luck, peace, Sherrill
@sherrillwallace Same here, man. My laptop camera was malfunctioning pretty bad during the recording, so I tried to sync it up. I'm re-uploading the semi-sync'd version now.
I'd like to be the guy to record and manage you, for money reasons of course. haha but seriously, you have a real unique persona, and really natural.
@TheCalm25 Good luck with the camera and syncing the song. Thanks for the nice compliment about my style. My contract with Horn Of Plenty expires in about 5 months. I will be so glad. I can do much more of the music I like and music I have written. I'll keep your offer to by my new manager! We could both get rich! After all, its just a stroke of luck after you get hooked up with the right people. I have an unlimited studio offer and I plan to take the guy up and law down some tracks. Thanks
@rentmead Thanks for your vote of confidence on my version of this song. I wanted to keep it true to the artist who performed it. It also had special meaning to me because I've been on the street myself. Thanks again. Sherrill

Love it.
This song has always held a special place in my heart ever since high-school when it was first released.
How the time has flown-by. I really have to learn to play guitar before my life is over. Something you can get very personal with!
Great cover friend.
Cobbe354 4 months ago
@Cobbe354 Thank you very much. If this song has a special place in your heart you owe it to yourself to pick up a guitar and learn to play it. Its only 4 cords and they are easy ones. You decide, and I will send you a demo or there are hundreds posted here on YT. Thanks again and GO GOR IT! Peace, Sherrill

good job. no offense but you kinda look the the homeless guy from the first verse
25ostrich 5 months ago
@25ostrich Thanks for dropping by and comenting. You know, you're right. I do conjure images of the guy in the first. The truth is, I lived that exact life after I left our run down shack of a house on a 40 acre patch of dirt at age 17. I left walking, no contacts and no place to go. 11 kids and mom and dad in a 5 room shack. The street wasn't much worse. But I had an unusual gift for a person in my fix. I was smart. IQ is 139. Today I own a $130mm company. Isn't life strange. No offense taken.

thats a very good cover both instrumentally and vocally. i love this new take on the song. i understand that this video is a couple years old, but that doesnt mean its not good. this song is such an eye opener to people who have never felt this type of thing. what type of guitar are you using? i like it.
slayersyndicate 6 months ago
@slayersyndicate Thanks for the comment. This song had a personal message for me and I knew I had to do it the first time I heard it. Music does convey in a way some people never notice...but some do get it. I'm playing a Taylor custom shop K22ce 30th anniversy limited. Rather expensive considering the inroads I have made in life. Thanks for taking the time to listen but more importantly to make the observations you did. Peace to you, Sherrill

@PureMetalBrute Thanks for the comment on my beard. I plan to let it grow to the length of ZZ Top. Only difference is theirs has a tint of red, mine is solid white. I've had a beard since 1976, don't know what I'de look like without it! Peace Brother, Sherrill

chords. please....
vazqum1 1 year ago
@vazqum1 This one is real eazy. D minor, F, and C. Use the little finger on high e string 3rd fret-pick up index finger. Between verses just slid the D monor down two frets. Watch my fingers. Good luck, Sherrill

@sherrillwallace

TheCalm25 1 year ago
@TheCalm25 Know what you mean. I have never liked those places I put in this song. That day I said I'll do it like the artist did it. I still have mixed fellings about that. I don't use profanity in my daily life. Doing so here is so unlike me. Thanks. Sherrill
sherrillwallace 1 year ago
This is the best cover I've heard of this song. And I've been checking them out since I just posted my go at it.
You're got a great, unique style man. Have you ever made a professional recording? I'd like to hear more.
TheCalm25 1 year ago
@TheCalm25 Thanks a million. GLad you like my version. Somewhat of a true story for me, living on the streets and all. I sure would like to see you version. Good luck, peace, Sherrill
sherrillwallace 1 year ago
@sherrillwallace Same here, man. My laptop camera was malfunctioning pretty bad during the recording, so I tried to sync it up. I'm re-uploading the semi-sync'd version now.
I'd like to be the guy to record and manage you, for money reasons of course. haha but seriously, you have a real unique persona, and really natural.
TheCalm25 1 year ago
@TheCalm25 Good luck with the camera and syncing the song. Thanks for the nice compliment about my style. My contract with Horn Of Plenty expires in about 5 months. I will be so glad. I can do much more of the music I like and music I have written. I'll keep your offer to by my new manager! We could both get rich! After all, its just a stroke of luck after you get hooked up with the right people. I have an unlimited studio offer and I plan to take the guy up and law down some tracks. Thanks
