Hi, I see your a big Johnny Rivers fan.... i was wondering if you know the name of a song he had out in the late 60s or early 70s, i can't remember the name but the first line in the song goes " I had a dream last night, about a girl i've never known......." i can't remember any more of it, but it's a very beautiful song.. any Info on this song would help me find it.......Thanks much...777phase
@halifaxcitadel Or they might just (horrors! - hard to believe, but this isn't Camazotz and not everyone has to like whatever the majority like) not like this song.
Johnny Rivers has outstanding singing and guitar playing talent and never has relied upon tricks to entertain we lucky Americans. When this video was made in the mid sixties the budget was extremely limited and hence no live music. But believe me we music fans loved seeing our musical heroes on television, of course we understood there was lipsynching taking place but we were delighted to see Johnny Rivers on television. He is an outstanding musician who could entrance his audience.
The RRHOF is a joke. There is no longer any prestige associated with that club. There are so many bad bands they out number the legends. That showed this past year when the Hollies were inducted and 2 of the early members Hicks, and Elliot did not even make an attempt to be there. They just played their London gig. Love it.
Love this mans music, a definite stylist in the sixties. he influenced me with his southern inflected accent, phrasing soul syncopation vocals and rhythm guitar.
@SyphonFilter899 --because the love of money became greater than the love of music, but it's okay, the pendulum will swing back into grooviness one fine day.
I can't believe Johnny Rivers is not in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. I grew up in Los Angeles, my friend Yolanda Duarte, a Mexican American woman, native Angelino who I adored, loved him. We had so many good times listening to Johnny Rivers, even my father loved Johnny Rivers, his music is universal and beautiful. We would still go see him to this day if he's playing in our town. The man has so many great tunes, and there's no denying the man rock and rolls spectacularly!....
How many hits and how many millions of records to you have to have in order to be in the hall of fame??.....anyone with a musical brain knows he should be inducted.
I'm 18 and love 60's music and this song.....especially since there's a hillside in my hometown with a view of both the capitol city and a church steeple down below.
I've always loved Johny Rivers--even as a kid of 10-11 year old. My friends and family would fall out laughing because I'm a Black girl! As an adult, I've always admired his vituosity...he performs in such a way that he can't be "typed" as this genre or that genre.I live in Cleveland, Ohio and for the life of me I don't understand why he's not in the R&R Hall of Fame...God only knows there are a lot of people who recieved this honor who, IMO shouldn't be there.
Induct Johnny into the Hall of Fame!!! Everybody out there who is a fan of JR or just plain good music, call attention to this in any way that you can!!! Let's stand up for Johnny!!!
I purchased this version on Cassette Tape back in the 1970's on the album called "Johnny Rivers - Golden Hits". I cannot find this recording on a CD or online. iTunes' version is a different recording. I would love to find a recording of this version and add it to my iTunes library.
I always preferred JR's version over the original. After I finally heard the original, that is, years later -- that one was a little before MY time even...
Johnny is tops. Always will be. I was 16 in 74 and went to the Whisky for the 1st time. I stood there wondering what it was like when Johnny first played there. @estelle715 Schoolhouse Rock -- YAYY ! I remember that. Most if not all the episodes are up here on the YourTube.
I'm surprised at myself last night because I don't typically hear the words to songs. But I can smell and taste chords and textures of note progressions, as well as hear the overall song. I which I could pick out words in songs easier, it seems to be quite easy for most listeners of music. I envy that ability.
I can tell Johnny LOVES performing. Just look at him. That's love
Dear Viewer: A lot of female Johnnie Rivers fans cannot help but feel "sentimental joy" about a generation that passed us by too quickly. John- you'll never be forgotten if you do half a dozen more mini tours for some big loot! With the economy back from "Barack the Banker" I'll pay $50 per seat! Your 25-ish young female fans are searching back for some great harmonizing and crooning like you have! Danielle T., Worcester, Mass.
Johnny Rivers - a lot of covers, but a lot of HITS ... he was huge in the 60's ... I remember the Whiskey a Go Go ... girls up behind the glass, doing the Go Go, while Johnny down below belted them out ... the place so packed, it was like a Japanese train station ... sweat pouring off of everyone ... the smell of weed permeating the place ... those were the days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe that he still isn't in the RRHOF. What do you have to do to be considered worthy of entry? He had so many hits during an era when groups dominated radio and records. Thank you Lee for posting this cool song, love listening to it.
@squirrelnut who cares really 90% of the songs on most albums are shit fillers anyway. JR has the look and talent to make whoevers or whatevers song way special n stand the test of time
@squirrelnut I've got no beef with this remark, squirrelnut, I just wanted to point out that while that may be true, Elvis didn't write his songs either. Bottom line: JR was a performer, as Elvis was. People enjoyed their music and their performances.
@MultiDKenny Madonna, REM, and Metallica are in the Hall but not this man? What kind of knee pad, brown nosing, obsequious criminosity is this? What kind of politics goes on around Cleveland?
Saw Johnny and his band a few years ago in a 250 seat auditorium... Man, he blew the roof off of the place! Johnny played his red Gibson es335 just like in the 60's...
He had a really talented drummer, bass and a keyboard man top back him up... Sure would like to see him in a venue backed up by a symphony...
This man is fantastic always was always will be.

Our Boy Johnny Rive's "Should Be" in The R&R H&H,......
but the Hall of Fame Has Been A Joke for Over the last 20 ' yrs....
(Srsly'..Abba gets in Over "Alice Cooper " or even Kiss ? )
It's more of "Popularity/Sales " than "Artistic" talent
Rivers helped Continue That "Rock-A-Billy" type sound,
(along with His Bluesy/Soulful sound)
that survived through the 1960's, lasted to the 1980"s (with like.. the "Stray Cats" & others) and Still stands Today !

The argument that he isn't in the hall because
most of his hits were covers is a bad argument.
There are plenty of performers in the hall
who never wrote a thing. The body of his work
is just to large and great to exclude him. Solomon Burke
is in the hall for Christ's sake! He had two hits, and one
of them was a remake of a country song!

Every song he covers is better than the original. I have loved him since I was 10 and that was a while ago.

Johnny Rivers is not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ??? That's gotta change. Somebody should get him in there. He had so many great songs.

He looks like he is having a blast!! I love it, not to many Rock-a-billy artist in the last 60s

I can't believe that he still isn't in the RRHOF. What do you have to do to be considered worthy of entry? He had so many hits during an era when groups dominated radio and records. Thank you Lee for posting this cool song, love listening to it.

@MultiDKenny Rick Derringer will be working the Warrior Guitar booth at the Dallas Guitar Show tell him to nominate Johnny, or I can when I see him
superdeathbang 1 year ago
@MultiDKenny TBH it's probably cause half of his songs are just covers.

@squirrelnut who cares really 90% of the songs on most albums are shit fillers anyway. JR has the look and talent to make whoevers or whatevers song way special n stand the test of time
1986billyk 1 year ago
@squirrelnut I've got no beef with this remark, squirrelnut, I just wanted to point out that while that may be true, Elvis didn't write his songs either. Bottom line: JR was a performer, as Elvis was. People enjoyed their music and their performances.
CLUTCHNSHIFT 1 year ago
@squirrelnut You know, fair enough, however they're pretty damn good covers,
and when you throw in the very good originals, like swayin to the music, Sevret
agent Man, Summer rain, etc. it's a pretty fine career. Plus his playing and vocals
are pretty signature, you know it's him as soon as you hear it.

@MultiDKenny Madonna, REM, and Metallica are in the Hall but not this man? What kind of knee pad, brown nosing, obsequious criminosity is this? What kind of politics goes on around Cleveland?
HaywoodZarathustra 1 year ago 2
@MultiDKenny I agree, I am starting to wonder if the people who decide who gets into the hall of fame are freakin' tone deaf!

I know the majority of Johnny's hits
are covers, although some big ones aren't, but again how is he not in the
Rock N Roll hall of fame, ahead of
oh lets say, maybe frickin Madonna, who
should need to pay the admission to get in.

Is this Johnny Rivers' original song or did Charley Pride do this?
kgj08 2 years ago
Neither, it was originally performed by Harold Dorman.
pooka5472 2 years ago
Yes, But Johnny Rivers recorded it long before Charley Pride had even thought of it.
