  • This man is fantastic always was always will be.

  • Yes he is definitely an artist that somehow...'they' haven't recognized his great work, but we love him!

  • He should have been in the hall for years now! Must be some dumb retired politicians in charge.

  • Pull your heads out and put him in the R&R hall of fame

  • Church, High on a Steeple. Sounds pretty good to me! Lets become the rock not to rolll.

Led Zepp Quote. Later\.Oh yea Stair way too Heaven. OOchhh. Later buy.Love you all.

  • Pretty damn good for a "Southern Boy" Italian kid from NYC!

  • Harold Dorman (1926-1988) wrote it and had the first hit with it in 1960. Johnny's was a bigger hit, probably because of that great harmonica.

  • jack dim of john belongs with Jack and the bean stalk with buttercup the cow

  • wedding bells our ringing an it should of been ours .thats the perfect song an thats that'

  • Just not LOUD enough! Even with my extra stereo speakers. Will have to "SURF" Youtube to find a better quality. Not that this post is un-worthy, hang-in there lee57. I assume you were born in 1957, as I was, but I just can't CRANK IT UP! You know, Shake up the neighbors!! Keep up ur posts. They are appreciated!

  • Okay, my friends, I am going to have to surf YOUTUBE for another version of this so I can TURN IT UP!!! Will share it w/U if i can. If not, do it yourselves! BTW, my B=day is 1-6-2012. I will be 55 years young!! JUST DO IT!

  • Dang this computer!!! Even w/ x-tra streo speakers I can't turn this up LOUD ENUFF To rattle the neighbors!!!

  • I think this is his best video. He looks kind of goofy, almost a little wicked with his slightly wild hair, but definitely in control of everything. It's just a great singer/guitarists with a few instruments! Why do we need more? A true white boy with soul!

  • A decent song, a great perforrmer, without a bunch of metal and just a few instruments!

  • @madd4justice And a kick-butt groove

  • if JR is not in the hall there should be no hall

  • -----wish i'd been a sixties chic when this was around---------

  • can anyone teach me how to play the solo harmonica part of Mountain of Love by Johnny Rivers

  • only song i can kareoke ;]

  • Johnny Rivers not in the Rock n Roll hall of Fame but Madonna is. Something is wrong here.

  • Met him in peiku VN 1966. Was with Ann Margaret.

  • You check out the thread I inadverntently started on Johnny River's Seventh Son down-load, We are not the onle ppl that feel this way. Many questions to be asked to the committee @ the Rock -N-Roll Hall of Fame. Why do us, the public, that actually buy all this music have a say in it all. Somethings not right with their system. Must check into it & keep all of you You Tube users posted... BTW You Tube should have automatic spell check, & I am not excluding myself from that remark!! he he

  • I like Rockin' Pneumonia better, but this comes in second.

  • One of the very best natural rock/swamp guitar players around. Heard him

clowning around before a state fair gig many years ago with fellow musicians before his set on stage. He was great , Tony Joe White great. He never showed it off much but his modest solos were always hooky and perfect.

  • You can listen to the words, you can listen to the music, its a real song.

  • hearing Johnny Rivers always puts me in a happy mood ! - i've been singing this song for the past 2 days : )

  • I think he is in the rock'n roll hall of fame....I seem to recall keith richards inducting him in by calling him "mr. rock'n roll and one the 10 best rock guitarists I ever knew!"

  • me encanta!!!

  • You mean he isn't in the hall of fame? This is a tradgedy!!!

  • I've been a jonny rivers fan for many of year . I've been trying to find something on U-Tupe that will show me how to play the harmonica solo version of mountain of love. Could someone out there do that. Thanks

  • Great song man I dont care wat anybody else says! Great tune!

  • Yes,I agree that Johnny should be in the R+R Hall of Fame - BUT CHUBBY CHECKER SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE YEARS AGO !!! That's why I call it the Hall Of SHAME !!!

  • just have to love this music Its so cool to listen to

  • pls sum1 redo this at 420. 240 is to low quality. great song :)

  • This is cool music from a cool dude, yes'm. ;)

  • Quality!

  • Johnny Rivers Had 10 , ON THE TOP 10 Hit LIST from 65- 76, and Many Others by Other SINGERS / Performers !

  • 19 dislikes,idiots

  • Darlene Love, Leonard Cohen, Gene Pitney, the Flamingos, the Moonglows, and Ritchie Valens are in the RRHOF and Johny Rivers isn't? What a joke!

  • Johnny Rivers does need to be in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

  • @TubeNumber1USA ..i doubt The Stones wanted to do Motown. Don't get me wrong I love Mo music but ..the Stones?

  • @wattsrightt What about "Just My Imagination" ?

  • @SoEyeSay ....great song or....i wish it would rain. thanx for reminding me...:)

  • @SoEyeSay "Just My Imagination..great song! Thanx for reminding me.

  • @wattsrightt Well, you're welcome, but, remember, the Rolling Stones did NOT out-do the original.

  • @SoEyeSay ..ya..you're 20 dude..I listened to this stuff ORIGINALLY. Saw the rise and fall of everybody. ...:)

  • @halifaxcitadel Or they might just (horrors! - hard to believe, but this isn't Camazotz and not everyone has to like whatever the majority like) not like this song.

  • Great Song

  • watch his hands and you can learn to play along

  • Johnny Rivers has outstanding singing and guitar playing talent and never has relied upon tricks to entertain we lucky Americans. When this video was made in the mid sixties the budget was extremely limited and hence no live music. But believe me we music fans loved seeing our musical heroes on television, of course we understood there was lipsynching taking place but we were delighted to see Johnny Rivers on television. He is an outstanding musician who could entrance his audience.

  • The RRHOF is a joke. There is no longer any prestige associated with that club. There are so many bad bands they out number the legends. That showed this past year when the Hollies were inducted and 2 of the early members Hicks, and Elliot did not even make an attempt to be there. They just played their London gig. Love it.

  • @alienhuman They did want to be there, but could no get out of their London gig to make the trip.

  • Our Boy Johnny Rive's "Should Be" in The R&R H&H,......

but the Hall of Fame Has Been A Joke for Over the last 20 ' yrs....

(Srsly'..Abba gets in Over "Alice Cooper " or even Kiss ? )

It's more of "Popularity/Sales " than "Artistic" talent

Rivers helped Continue That "Rock-A-Billy" type sound,

    (along with His Bluesy/Soulful sound)

that survived through the 1960's, lasted to the 1980"s (with like.. the "Stray Cats" & others) and Still stands Today !

  • The first lip-sync? This is a great tune but when the guitar isn't plugged in and no mic, ya gotta wonder lol

  • @strat6911

HaH Ha..yeah..back then "Most" artist Did "Sing & Play" along with a Tape recording,

But They "Did" Play along (like Johnny rivers Is here with whatever "Live" Appearance this is.

I remember my mom..jumping up and clapping & dancing when Johnny Rivers

    (or whoevr she liked),

    i was only maybe 5 yrs old..but I Remember it...lol

  • The hall of fame must be the 19 dislikes !!!

  • WHATS WRONG WITH THOSE PEOPLE...JOHNNY BELONGS IN THE HALL OF FAME I THOUGHT HE WAS ALREADY IN IT!!!!

  • @lumeriam

    He Is! in my mind!

  • @lumeriam lets contact the hall of fame and get him in there, Johny has a website you can google it!

  • Wow - He is amazing!

  • If he's not in the hall of fame there should not be a hall of fame.

  • He has a sketchy back ground; which may be true or untrue. This I think effects his Hall of Fame status, I love Johnny!

  • This Man should be in the HALL! aGREED!!

  • Why isn't he in the hall ?? Its because of Jann Wenner

  • Love this mans music, a definite stylist in the sixties. he influenced me with his southern inflected accent, phrasing soul syncopation vocals and rhythm guitar.

Deserves more credit for his work.

  • 19 people voted this song down. what were they listening to??

  • @tacodreamteam - they must be dyslexic

  • @tacodreamteam lady gag gag...

  • Good music stand the test of time.

  • Why can't modern music be as pure as this : (

  • @SyphonFilter899 --because the love of money became greater than the love of music, but it's okay, the pendulum will swing back into grooviness one fine day.

  • I can't believe Johnny Rivers is not in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. I grew up in Los Angeles, my friend Yolanda Duarte, a Mexican American woman, native Angelino who I adored, loved him. We had so many good times listening to Johnny Rivers, even my father loved Johnny Rivers, his music is universal and beautiful. We would still go see him to this day if he's playing in our town. The man has so many great tunes, and there's no denying the man rock and rolls spectacularly!....

  • Johnny was one of the great rockers, and it's a joke

that he isn't in the hall. His greatest album though was

more of a hippie tinged album called "Realization".

One of the BEST albums out of the 60's.

  • How many hits and how many millions of records to you have to have in order to be in the hall of fame??.....anyone with a musical brain knows he should be inducted.

  • Johnny Rivers needs to be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame

  • @sixnightsaweek Yes, he sure does.....He's one of the BEST!

  • @sixnightsaweek I agree. The list of who is NOT going to be in the so called "Hall of Fame" could almost start a new museum.

  • @sixnightsaweek I second that

  • @sixnightsaweek fuckin AAAAA

  • @sixnightsaweek No question.

  • the best part is when he sings "you should be ashamed..."

  • I'm 18 and love 60's music and this song.....especially since there's a hillside in my hometown with a view of both the capitol city and a church steeple down below.

  • Kinda quiet.

  • This was my favorite by Johnny.

  • I don't care who wrote the songs. When I hear them I think Johnny Rivers--no one else. He should be in the hall!

  • I so remember this song, high on the mountain of love, or something like that (haha)

  • Johnny Rivers is NOT in the R&R Hall Of Fame?!!!!

    F**K THAT SH*TT!

  • @ajerseykid

    seriously? why the hell not?

  • @ajerseykid your a fool fool

  • Great Song from a great Time.

  • Almost all of his covers out-sold the originals.

  • The argument that he isn't in the hall because

most of his hits were covers is a bad argument.

There are plenty of performers in the hall

who never wrote a thing. The body of his work

is just to large and great to exclude him. Solomon Burke

is in the hall for Christ's sake! He had two hits, and one

of them was a remake of a country song!

  • Great song from when I was in grade school

  • thank you for this awesome post. i love this retro vibe.

  • I've always loved Johny Rivers--even as a kid of 10-11 year old. My friends and family would fall out laughing because I'm a Black girl! As an adult, I've always admired his vituosity...he performs in such a way that he can't be "typed" as this genre or that genre.I live in Cleveland, Ohio and for the life of me I don't understand why he's not in the R&R Hall of Fame...God only knows there are a lot of people who recieved this honor who, IMO shouldn't be there.

  • what happened to music ? the 80's and 90's are so trite 60's and 70's had the best songs!

  • The great Johnny Ramastella.

  • great voice

    sweet guitar

  • This man with all his hits has to be in the R&R hall of fame............One great performer

  • I love love love Johnny Rivers.

  • i want to know why does he look YOUNGER now than he did then. outside of being one of the best; what the heck is his secret to agelessness?

  • Induct Johnny into the Hall of Fame!!! Everybody out there who is a fan of JR or just plain good music, call attention to this in any way that you can!!! Let's stand up for Johnny!!!

  • what so cool bout johnny is he always had happiness in his songs and was so real when alot of artists seemed angry or stoned

  • I purchased this version on Cassette Tape back in the 1970's on the album called "Johnny Rivers - Golden Hits". I cannot find this recording on a CD or online. iTunes' version is a different recording. I would love to find a recording of this version and add it to my iTunes library.

  • Love this song!

  • Now THAT'S Music.

  • very good

  • I always preferred JR's version over the original. After I finally heard the original, that is, years later -- that one was a little before MY time even...

  • OMG, where did this type of music go?!

  • I never really realized how many of his tunes were real toe-tappers

  • @holidayhouse03 His greatest toe tapper was, I think,

    7th Son.

  • Love the background singers! Oh yeah!

  • Great video and love the song...

    Johnny is wonderful!

    Thank you for posting it!

  • love this song, thanks for posting this!!

  • You have some videos and music I like.

  • he's ours..he's a louisiana boy

  • @pearlman08 yes and you would know all about boys wouldn't you, with your packet of sweets and your big big smile Mr Pearlman is a........

  • were you born an asshole or do you work really hard to be one

  • @pearlman08 you taught me well oh guru of the asshole

  • @pearlman08

I sure can tell that by thataccent of his. He is one of my all time favorites ever.

Saw him in a Casino outside Toronto for the first time in over 20 yrs. Loved it.

  • @pearlman08

He is ! I saw him in a Casino outside Toronto last year. First time up here in years. He has'nt changed much. He's one of my favorites ever.

    Hope he's up hear again.

  • He was here in New Mexico at the Buffalo Thunder Hotel about a month ago. The man does not age. really! He looks young and sings young.

  • I am so happy to read your info! I was wondering where Johnny R was.

I hope someday he comes to LA, CA.

I loved his music so much. In Argentina his songs were # 1 many times!

  • @antonio3324 I agree he gets better with age, I have always thought he was very good looking.

  • Johnny is tops. Always will be. I was 16 in 74 and went to the Whisky for the 1st time. I stood there wondering what it was like when Johnny first played there. (oh travil...that's not the 5th demension. He did not even meet them yet. He later signed, changed their name, recorded them hooked them up with Jimmy Webb and won Grammy's with them. But that's not them on this song. Rock on Johnny!

  • Thats the fifth demention in the backround before they became famous

  • It's the Blossoms, not the Fifth Dimension

  • I can't believe I just sang all the words to this song... I haven't heard this song in at least 5 years...

  • LOL! That's why they invented "Schoolhouse Rock". It is a proven fact that kids remember more when it is put to music.I bet we all know the words to at least a thousand songs..if not more!

  • @estelle715 Schoolhouse Rock -- YAYY ! I remember that. Most if not all the episodes are up here on the YourTube.

I'm surprised at myself last night because I don't typically hear the words to songs. But I can smell and taste chords and textures of note progressions, as well as hear the overall song. I which I could pick out words in songs easier, it seems to be quite easy for most listeners of music. I envy that ability.

I can tell Johnny LOVES performing. Just look at him. That's love

  • Dladly spend bucks to see him......100-200.00 just do it

  • One of my favorite singers from way back when! Pls. come back; we miss you!

  • Dear Viewer: A lot of female Johnnie Rivers fans cannot help but feel "sentimental joy" about a generation that passed us by too quickly. John- you'll never be forgotten if you do half a dozen more mini tours for some big loot! With the economy back from "Barack the Banker" I'll pay $50 per seat! Your 25-ish young female fans are searching back for some great harmonizing and crooning like you have! Danielle T., Worcester, Mass.

  • Haven't heard this for years, its superb, and I just love those backing vocalists. brilliant !!

  • Every song he covers is better than the original. I have loved him since I was 10 and that was a while ago.

  • JOHNNYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!! Even my MAMA LOVED your songs back then!!! WHERE DID U GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO??

  • Is that a squirrel on his head???

  • HAHAHAHA

  • Johnny Rivers is not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ??? That's gotta change. Somebody should get him in there. He had so many great songs.

  • Johnny Rivers - a lot of covers, but a lot of HITS ... he was huge in the 60's ... I remember the Whiskey a Go Go ... girls up behind the glass, doing the Go Go, while Johnny down below belted them out ... the place so packed, it was like a Japanese train station ... sweat pouring off of everyone ... the smell of weed permeating the place ... those were the days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Even Country boys Have soul!! I love it!!

  • He looks like he is having a blast!! I love it, not to many Rock-a-billy artist in the last 60s

  • I can't believe that he still isn't in the RRHOF. What do you have to do to be considered worthy of entry? He had so many hits during an era when groups dominated radio and records. Thank you Lee for posting this cool song, love listening to it.

  • I'm sure he'll be in it real soon!!

  • Johnny should be in the HALL he was was under

    rated

  • YAY.....haha....!

  • Amen MultiDKenny ... like Laura Nyro ... WHY????? needed to make room for Blondie?? (I love Blondie ... but COME ON!!!)

  • not a country music but this great singing

    in anyones book

    thanks

  • Yes, why IS this man NOT in the HALL?????

  • @MultiDKenny Rick Derringer will be working the Warrior Guitar booth at the Dallas Guitar Show tell him to nominate Johnny, or I can when I see him

  • @MultiDKenny TBH it's probably cause half of his songs are just covers.

  • @squirrelnut who cares really 90% of the songs on most albums are shit fillers anyway. JR has the look and talent to make whoevers or whatevers song way special n stand the test of time

  • @squirrelnut I've got no beef with this remark, squirrelnut, I just wanted to point out that while that may be true, Elvis didn't write his songs either. Bottom line: JR was a performer, as Elvis was. People enjoyed their music and their performances.

  • @squirrelnut You know, fair enough, however they're pretty damn good covers,

and when you throw in the very good originals, like swayin to the music, Sevret

agent Man, Summer rain, etc. it's a pretty fine career. Plus his playing and vocals

are pretty signature, you know it's him as soon as you hear it.

  • @MultiDKenny Madonna, REM, and Metallica are in the Hall but not this man? What kind of knee pad, brown nosing, obsequious criminosity is this? What kind of politics goes on around Cleveland?

  • @MultiDKenny I agree, I am starting to wonder if the people who decide who gets into the hall of fame are freakin' tone deaf!

  • Saw Johnny and his band a few years ago in a 250 seat auditorium... Man, he blew the roof off of the place! Johnny played his red Gibson es335 just like in the 60's...

He had a really talented drummer, bass and a keyboard man top back him up... Sure would like to see him in a venue backed up by a symphony...

  • @MultiDKenny because its run by a bunch of snobs

  • this needs to be LOUDER!!! AWESOME

  • Great Song and Video

    Johnny U ROCK

    5 *****'s & Thanks for Sharing :)

  • I know the majority of Johnny's hits

are covers, although some big ones aren't, but again how is he not in the

Rock N Roll hall of fame, ahead of

oh lets say, maybe frickin Madonna, who

should need to pay the admission to get in.

  • Is this Johnny Rivers' original song or did Charley Pride do this?

  • Neither, it was originally performed by Harold Dorman.

  • Yes, But Johnny Rivers recorded it long before Charley Pride had even thought of it.

  • Comment removed

  • He is still so coooool.

  • So y de Argentina y aqui este hombre tiene muchos fans,en cada barrio los fines de semana suena su musica.

  • Good!
