@shanninshu from what i recall (i was very young) I think it was a sort of bet we made with england. The winners paint their hair blond for victory, and the losers shave their heads, and we beat england in a very beautiful game :D it can also symbolize the golden generation of romanian football though, i think that's another reason why they wanted to paint their hair blond :)

It was supposed to be a group unity gesture and it was unique to the World Cup, but after 2 victories with normal hair against Colombia and England, being blonde only helped them to draw with Tunisia and lose against Croatia.

soy colombiano, recuerdo cuando los enfrentamos en USA94, los camarografos enfocaron a los colombianos al momento del himno de Rumanía y al revés jajaj increible error de producción, queda para la anécdota.

Luego los volvimos a enfrentar en Francia 98, nos volvieron a ganar, son verdugos nuestros en los mundiales, que equipos han tenido, y que jugadores, GEORGE HAGI, EL MARADONA DE LOS CARPATOS, estampa de crack !

They rulled the group after defeating Columbia and England, but after they colored their hair they were unable to defeat Tunisia in the last game of the group and they were kicked-off by Slovenia in the round of 16. I was very upset when that happen, after the good performance from 1994 (when they missed the semifinals after penalties with Sweden) we hoped that in 1998 Romania will reach at least the 3rd place.
