  • I know you shouldn't have to, but if sound is a concern always use a separate mic. I'm a professional and no crew has ever shot anything with an on-board mic. Even a hotshoe shotgun is better. Beachtek do an XLR adapter for cams like this.

  • The image quality of this cam rocks. Though I do wonder how long the fan will last over time...

  • Thank you! i new that there was no way a little fan like that could be a big deal. theres so many people bitching about the fan. they seriously just need something to complain about.

  • what is the best laptop computer on the market to edit, render, playback, upload HD video on the internet, etc., for $2000 or less?

  • @ussprinceton2004 sony vegas movie studio hd platinum. around 150 quid. does all of the above. upgrade to vegas pro if you like it!

  • I'm in a recording studio... fan noise highly audible... not good... couldn't use that without an external microphone.

  • thats a sumsung TV huh? LOL

  • Lol? I hear the noise.

  • @Keskusrikospoliisi ... I hear it big time too !!! ... using full range speakers/earphones.

  • well darn, I thought you solved my TM700 problem there ... but theres alot of fan noise when I monitor this vid with editing grade earphones. Very audible...but I also hear audio commentary from another tv in the house? Maybe I'm hearing the drone from your refrigerator but it is clearly the hum of a motorized fan. The external mic helps enough for most uses though ... right ?

  • I don't have this camcorder but I was told to set the mic control from auto to manual and step it down one setting. I'm getting the Sony CX550 because of this fan issue. The TM300 doesn't have one so I don't understand why this model does. It I owned one of these I would disable the fan after the warranty ran out. Maybe try always using the zoom mic setting.

  • Hello, I've heard that it's a pain to work with the videos you shot with this camera, is that true?

  • @MaghoxFr it can be a pain to edit. In Adobe Premiere you need to render the files before you can really do anything which can take a long time. It also requires a fairly powerful computer or you'll be waiting hours to render and then encode small clips

  • @bongpig what would be a powerful computer? I have o upgrade video graphics cards anyway, I plan to get a 1Gb nvidia

  • @MaghoxFr i'm afraid a Core i7 + 4GB RAM (even more) is what's needed!

  • I have a camcorder w/o a fan & sometimes can hear the zoom motor. In a tape camcorder I could always hear the tape motor. So, this fan motor shouldn't be an issue, esp. w/an ext. mike (like the Rode).

I read that the TM700 has wind-cancelling mike which also has some trick 5.1 feature. I like simpler features, but so far on YouTube, users seem happy - and take good videos!

  • i think this camera has awesome effective resolution on a 1080p container thanks to progressive native format, but the fan noise really sucks.

  • @platerplane what fan noise?

  • Can you let me know what settings you have the camera on. Is it on iA or on Manual? Is AGC on or off? I have this camera too, and no matter what I do I always get the hum of the fan in my video in quiet or loud room. Thanks for your help.

  • @poto4587

I keep the default auto mic setting of AGC on since it has not been an issue so far with my videos with the internal 5.1 mic or external Rode SVM. There should be enough manual control to satisfy any user just check the TM700 user manual.

  • @jogibajr What is this hiss noise then?

I've got TM700 and the fan is CLEARLY audible, way louder than the lens zoom/focus motor. If you pan the camera to the left, the fan gets hit with more air changing the pitch of the sound. I found no way to work around it in quiet room with internal mic.

  • great camera, the quality is amazing, it's as if im watching this show live, I just ordered this bad boy and should be getting it this week

  • I've yet to get my hands on this camera but I suspect people have made a mountain out of a mole hill regarding the fan noise. I think it's a very good sign that people have nothing better to gripe about regarding this camera. Thanks for posting this test - nicely done.

  • So far I have only used 1080p60 mode and even in a silent room the internal fan is not an issue with the internal 5.1 mic.

  • This cam has 2 option: Progressive and Interlace mode, which one you choose while taking this video? I'm thinking to buy it,too. But about a fan noise, I think it may occur only when we choose progressive mode (50p in PAL/ 60p NTSC) to reduce the heat inside the cam. How is the true?
