I agree with how people are getting more stupid every generation. I was 10 minutes late for work one day because the freeway was jammed, and the cab driver knew it was. Instead of taking an alternate route, asshole take the freeway saying that the freeway is the fastest no matter what.
you what pisses me off, when im at school i look at aircraft, and other machines and their like what you looking at and they laugh at me, and go on and look at stupid ass statistics on the Nab or what ever that shit iss, but dont appreciate technology and what not.
only thing good about the superbowl i think is the commercials. i know a lot of people that watch that just to see those but now they put them on youtube there is no reason to watch it on tv anymore if you don't want. the game is just something that interrupts the commercials i think.
Football isnt a childs game, you can get pretty fucked up if you dont know what your doing, I dont really like football but those players have some serious balls to do omething that looks so painful!
I remember , back in the 4th grade, I went to the pool and my mom ended up forcing me on the swim team against my will, no matter how much I tried to let her know I didn't. Luckily I got out a year later when my mom finally understood. I remember soccer.... I was 5 or 6 years old probably and I mostly just walked around the goal acting like a robot or hugging the coach.
sspooooorrtss... I enjoyed your rant, and got good laughs! I too was never a big sports fan. I'd rather watch a funny or interesting TV show than a sports game. I do like shooting baskets with a basketball every now and then (not an official game, just shooting baskets) and like licking a football and seeing it flip up and do cool things. i don't remember the comics name but he spoke of how when a trekkie/trekker wears a star fleet shirt or uniform everyone treats them like a freak and calls them names but some jock wears a sports jerzee and thats perfectly normal but really who's the the bigger freak the one who dresses up once in awhile for a convention or the one who wears his costume on a daily basis? can anyone say AL BUNDY?
sometimes yes, but i'd say open minded and tolerant the scifi crowd tends to let people be themselves be they a jock or intellectual. jocks do tend to be knowledgeable but it just tends to be limited to sports crap, scores/stats/records, nothing of importance to the greater good. my big bitch about sports is school funding right now we have trouble paying teachers, buying supplies, maintaining buildings, etc. but suggest cutting sports programs and everyone goes batshit crazy.
Stupid people increasing, watch the movie Idiocracy.
Non-sports electives, definitely. I took an MS Office elective in high school that had hardly any interest from others. But yet sports teams have to cut players theres so many. Well years later in college and at work I know Office and it has helped me. Would sports have gotten me this far in my job and college?
That being said, now that I've been volunteering at the university's TV station for a couple of semesters, it is interesting to go out and shoot various games. I find it amusing standing behind the camera and watching the spectators get "fired up" over something largely insignificant.
About the only sports I can watch are women's sports at the university level, volleyball in particular. But then I also question how much that has to do with the sport itself and not the 6' women in Spandex...
I agree with everything you said. Manufactured entertainment is all it is, and society expects us to go crazy over it like it's some sort of phenomenon like the rest of the "herd" does. Give me a friggin' break.
I've lived in a high school-football-obsessed town of 4000 people for close to 12 years. Had ZERO interest in playing sports so I naturally did not fit in. Only had to take 1 semester of PE in HS as a freshman because of Computer Maintenance and Auto Mechanics.
A few years ago one Christmas season I was driving into the little Wisconsin town near where I live. A person had a sheet of plywood setup in his yard with green and yellow lights which spelled out "God Bless Our Green Bay Packers". I'm not into pro sports nor am I against them but I thought that sign was just a bit off the edge.
I was never good in sports at all either. I got laughed at and called "retard" and "stupid" as well. I never saw the whole point of it anyway. If my wife wasn't such a big football nut I wouldn't have cared less. But again I'm happy for the Saints and my home town of New Orleans. They deserve this win.
I'm with you on this. I watch football only because my wife watches it. I am glad the Saints won because they deserve it, but honestly, my heart's not in it.
And the thing I kept thinking about was the psychology behind all this. Societies worshiping sports heroes is nothing new. All throughout time it was thought that athletes are to be worshiped and put on a pedestal.
I love how you speak your mind and do I hear and understand your pain. 100 years ago when I was in school the jocks and the "beautiful" people got the highest praises. If you weren't "beautiful" or were not exactly like them you were nothing. When I was drafted in the mid 60s I learned exactly what mankind is all about. You are among the rare young people who appreciate art, music and technology not only present, but also from times before your birth.
In junior high we were all issued our first jock straps. I was happy that I figured out right away how to put mine on. Then we were lined up in the gym, two of the big guys were picked to be captains and we were divided into two teams. I was small and so was amongst the last to be picked. Then the "game" began. It was game I never heard of called "dodgeball" and I hated it but it taught me a lot about people. The spirit of "being a winner" makes us a dichotomy society. Winners and losers.
hehehe i totally agree with you. I hated playing soccer in scholl. And i don't like to watch it on tv (22 dudes running after a ball? i have to be very bored to watch this).
Um yeah I agree with everything you said about sports and society, I used to get E's from school in Physical Education LUCKILY my parents didn't care.
Professional sports players are very immature. They never grow out of recess. The bad part is that most people envy their talent and actually pay extreme amounts just to see them. How many entertainers use their fame to break the law and get away with it?
A very successful coach was asked by a reporter why he was such a good coach. The coach said "You have to be smart enough too really understand and know the game, but dumb enough to think it matters."
I understand!! While I do support my teams (Cubs baseball, Rams football, UCONN basketball, and Predators hockey), I think society wants to kiss the ass of the players who really didn't do ANYTHING!!! It's worse in Titan country (I live about 45 minutes away) where it seems that every station (Channel 5 being the worst) want to devote a half hour for in my opinion is nothing!
Amen, brother.

Yes, yes.
Also, using the same example, a Trekkie will probably be some very intelligent and knowledgeable person.
More often than not, you can't really say that much about a jock/sports freak.

On the note of kids, you've seen the movie "Idiocracy" right? Most epic movie ever!!
I agree on the Indie flicks as well, I tend to like more character driven stories rather than action and vapid comedy.
