@NguyenEmpir3 K&N are high flow filters, if you buy a full intake system it takes all the constricting parts out, lets your motor breath better and improves gas millage and power. it allows more air to go straight to the intake/throttle body. Its a very good investment if you ask me. i got one on my truck. check the my vid.
@NguyenEmpir3 well apparently K&N say there product increases air flow therefore more power and economy. they are made from cotton so you can reuse them, they claim because u reuse you help the environment because paper filters can not be recycled(depends on the application) but then again u use harmful chems to clean the filter which goes into waterways. my car gets 8.03 per 100km at the moment so we will see how much improvement i will get
All that time that it took to do all of this I could have went and bought a stock filter, installed it and been 200 miles before you even finished. smh not worth it.
@BlackFalcon16 Ok...So you spend gas to go to the auto parts store, next you spend money on a new filter. Spend more gas on the way home. Put miles on the car you didn't have to. Meanwhile. I sit in my house not spending a dime on gas, new filter and clean mine. I get better MPGs, Don't add wasteful miles on my car. save gas and get better air flow. Next all the money you spent on air filters over the next few years I save and use to buy myself something nice. Worth it..
@CryMoreToEazy Why exactly am I driving my car to go to the auto parts store I can just walk. And remember you have to pay for the K&N Cleaner which is $13.05, $1 over what it takes to fill my bike if I need to ride there, and I know if im paying $13 for a cleaner I better be getting something bigger than a Redbull. Now for me I only spend about $25 for a Stock Air filter and I get 52 Miles per gallon and I dont think spending 1 hour doing that its worth it if only get 2 more miles IMO.
@BlackFalcon16 And if you got bent on me being sarcastic when I said what ever I did say like months ago you need to chill out. But seriously by the time he gets done I would be in Vegas playing Poker.
@BlackFalcon16 You don't really spend the an entire hour doing it. Actually time outside of drying and oil is really only a few minutes. Also if you're not going anywhere it does save money in long term aspects. I do get your point though not much savings when it comes to a bike as it relates to a car. And no I didn't get bent on your sarcasm. That's why I had to add some sacasm of my own in my first comment.
Good job man! My dad has one of those K&N forever air filters on his 1999 Chavrolet Silverado 3500 7.4L. He has used that filter for like 100,000 miles now! And used the recharger kit like 10 times and the recharger kit isn't even half way empty! Now on my 1991 GMC Suburban... There is a fram air filter. I guess you could harm it or something if you use those oily filters.. It is made to use dry filters.. Such a shame! Anyway man thumbs up!
Wow, so many mis-informed people! If K&N filters let dirt through and were so harmful to your engine, why is it that your vehicle warranty is still valid with one fitted? Tell ya what, you guys can keep your paper filters, I'll keep my K&N ;)
lol at the "splotches of not red" :D
Gotta give my filter it's first clean soon, thanks for the vid, very useful.
K&N filters are crap... they say they increase airflow ok sure... then answer this how do you get that increase airflow ? Its because it doesnt filter the fine particles as well as the OEM paper filters... These filters are crap... and i suggest you never use one unless you like dirt getting into your engine and engine oil. Dont belive me ? Put one on then after 20k miles check out your throttle body and the air intake tube. It will be full of dust
Wrong, soo wrong dude. I had my intake manifold and throttle body cleaned completetly on my 5.9 V8 engine, and after using a K&N filter my throttle body and intake manifold after only 2500 miles, looked like a manifold that was never cleaned. This wasnt normal blowback from the PVC system either this was dust and grit that the filter didnt filter.. I did the same test with a normal paper filter and the intake was free of dust and grit.
Oh and when is aid 20k , i was just using that as an expression saying how shitty these K&N's are. You dont need to change a filter every 5k filters, 10k miles is fine for normal filters.
Let me know if the words in my other post confuses you. If you know anything about engine's you'll understand why good filtering is better for the longer life of the engine vs sticking a high flow filter to get a few more HP. Unless you enjoy cleaning your intake manifold often.
@xxxhitman Well maybe its diff for bikes, but cars the manuals recomend every 30,000 miles. I do it every 10k, because 30k is ludacris unless ppl want to get like 5mpg haha
@lilydalebunny You think having to clean a filter every 6 to 7000 miles is alot or hard? I clean mine about every month because I live in the desert. The oil doesn't get sucked in and it wouldn't harm the mass air flow sensor even if did.
@lilydalebunny Ha you're a dumbass if you're not kidding. The oil you put on fiber filters will trap and block more dirt than a paper filter ever could. Paper filters suck!
kn filters do allow more into engine, however max hp is more for carb engines than fuel injection. Carbs love air, injection computer asjusts for air flow and gas mixture on the fly.
yeah umm i wouldnt recomend this video for any instructional value whats so ever for one he didnt even read it before he started and 2 they said liberal... not overkill!!! i wouldnt recomend applying that much oil hahahaha
Stop waving the camera around. It would help if you had read first, then demonstrated. That oil breaks MAF sensors, mine was £200. The K&N has huge holes & small surface area so it is NOT a filter, it blocks up faster and allows dirt in to the engine. You are best with the original filter, don't be scammed by K&N.
The K&N filter from my experience really does not boost mileage so much but it does improve HP and torque at any particular RPM. My 07 Accord is a V4 and "sluggish" but with this thing in there its got the spunk of a V6 without the extra fuel consumption. . . If you can maintain the thing which is a bear, it is a good filter.
By the way guys, if your filter is REALLY dirty (aka dirty Cone filters from CAI setups), get a bucket filled with warm (not hot) water and some soap. Let it soak for a good 20 minutes, get it out, shake the water out and leave it to try. Then proceed with the cleaner and oiling ;)
Gotta love the learn as you go DIY!! But no love on the camera work. Got me dizzy bro! Funny and helpful post. I also use K&N on my Kawi and IS300. Ride safe!
you suck so does you 250 crap..sonder how long he took to find the airbox.......dishwashing soap, water ,rag,&gun oil & you dont have to spend the expensive stuff k&n wants you to buy!!!!!!!man up bikers cant be loser uh and uhhhh!!!!! get a real motorcycle looks like the bicycles they sell at walmart with fairings!!!!!!
more air flow economical because you have no to buy one paper filter anymore blah blah , but they fuck you deep with all the stuff you need (or not) to clean ,grease ,etc....
at the end they make you kn stuff addict for life (of the filter) : )
I'm pretty sure this air filter does nothing except maybe running a bit cleaner and the ease of reuseing the filter as apposed to having to buy a new one everytime
@rebelyell91 yes it would gain, but panel filters dont gain much more than 1-5 bhp if lucky - cone filters vary from around 3-10bhp to 5-15, depends what you go for!
also, less restriction = more air = more oxygen = MORE POWER :) and also more mpg on most...
@rebelyell91 How much is the Recharger Kit ? im to lazy to run down to autozone and check and online prices are never as accurate as id like them to be.
@MonoRacer Depends on what filter you buy, street filters give you little HP, acceleration and your car sounds a bit deeper. Sport filters greatly improve these 3 things I said ;)
@MonoRacer i think air filters change your sound a little bit...but that might be if u keep the filter box thingy open...also the once i have seen changing the sound are the conical ones
nice vid, i have to get to cleaning my k&n too on my car, but thing is, i might be getting a short ram intake for it so idk, i may just wait, its only been a year/15,000miles or so, and you only have to clean them every 50K right? I thought it was every year, but i read 50K so idk
Personally, i clean mine every 3 months. I live in a pretty dry part though.... use your judgement. if you have to think about it, it's probably time.
Why not just replace the air filter? It's not that expensive correct? I just checked out your videos. Your pretty amazing man! Getting my 250 in January!
2) To half a bucket of water add two shampoo packets.
3) Let the filter drain over night, wake up next morning you can see whole the water filled with dirt
4) Take the filter out and wash it with plain water or rather scrub it, and let it dry in the sun for 2 to 3hrs
5) Once it is dry oil the filter not much 10 to 20ml will do and drain the excess oil, for 2 strokes you can use 2t oil for 4 strokes engine oil would do
Hey mate nice Vid... question. did you notice any change in the sound of the air intake once u changed to K & N from stock.. I spose it allows more air in so u should get a deeper growl... also did you rejet the carbs as your changin Airflow?. Cheers
how did you get the grease sealer? idk if i have that in my recharger pack, but im about to change my filter's soon. I dont know if cars require the grease kit, but we will see i guess. lol. Nice bike btw. I have a 350Z, and im lookin to get a bike in the late future.
hey thanks for uploading these great vids, very money saving tips. is there any chance you might be able to show how to change headlight bulbs? I was thinking of putting brighter headlight bulbs since i mostly drive at night. Stock ones seriously suck. Any help would be much appreciated.
Really liking the Maintenance series so for Rebel. Sound alot like me, always checking to make sure I'm doing the work right haha. Good stuff, keep it up bud.

I dunno why youd want to see him have a gixxer cuz if he ever wanted to travel he'd have to sissy tow it behind an underpowered girly car where as the honda would actually get him there, be more comfortable, and have the same performance. :P :P
Normally id never knock a gix, i even looked at a few 2 buy, but you asked for it. :p So sorry 2 other gixer owners. (:

those things let way to much dirt past
teamhp 2 years ago
do it
1) Remove the filter from the box.
2) To half a bucket of water add two shampoo packets.
3) Let the filter drain over night, wake up next morning you can see whole the water filled with dirt
4) Take the filter out and wash it with plain water or rather scrub it, and let it dry in the sun for 2 to 3hrs
5) Once it is dry oil the filter not much 10 to 20ml will do and drain the excess oil, for 2 strokes you can use 2t oil for 4 strokes engine oil would do
6) Replace the filter back in the box

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a new filter? What's the price of a new K&N Air Filter vs. Cleaning Kit?
TrueOptimist 2 years ago
You can have the K&N filter as long as your vehicle life. so I'd say it's cheaper than re-buying filters all the time
rebelyell91 2 years ago
why change a filter that lasts almost a lifetime? And the filter costs more than a recharge kit. Oh, and google is your best friend.
chrisguapo69 2 years ago
k & n filters live a lifetime they never need to be replaced

Hey mate nice Vid... question. did you notice any change in the sound of the air intake once u changed to K & N from stock.. I spose it allows more air in so u should get a deeper growl... also did you rejet the carbs as your changin Airflow?. Cheers
mixes909s 2 years ago
not really a significant change. I did feel more confidant and how I can reuse the filter :D
I did not rejet, no.
rebelyell91 2 years ago
how did you get the grease sealer? idk if i have that in my recharger pack, but im about to change my filter's soon. I dont know if cars require the grease kit, but we will see i guess. lol. Nice bike btw. I have a 350Z, and im lookin to get a bike in the late future.
ByronSW32 2 years ago
I had something similar for my baja bug, I just pulled it out and hit it with an air compressor and applied just a little oil to it, done.
Akuma9285 2 years ago
you suck balls.. that was too much spray on the filter.. all you did was make a dirt trap...
rustynailz75 2 years ago
isn't that what's it's suppose to be?

hey thanks for uploading these great vids, very money saving tips. is there any chance you might be able to show how to change headlight bulbs? I was thinking of putting brighter headlight bulbs since i mostly drive at night. Stock ones seriously suck. Any help would be much appreciated.
vulu80 2 years ago
headlight bulbs?
naw, I'm sorry not at this time.
and yes the stock bulbs are alright at night :P
good luck though

theres an easier way to do this. take out the air filter and put it in a bucket of washing-up liquid.
joewarcupinhull 2 years ago
the instructions say in bold big letters. " THE USE OF ANY OTHER CLEANING SOLUTION OR METHOD COULD DAMAGE THE FILTER!"
yawyd 2 years ago
yes but if u dont have a cleaning kit its the nxt best thing

You gonna be awfully smelly if you dont bring clothes and we'll force you to ride far behind and you'll be sleeping far away too. We're also not stopping for when you get sick from the sammiches that go bad from baking in the hot sun for days. :p
woodenchairs 2 years ago
Shmonda huh?
I dunno why youd want to see him have a gixxer cuz if he ever wanted to travel he'd have to sissy tow it behind an underpowered girly car where as the honda would actually get him there, be more comfortable, and have the same performance. :P :P
Normally id never knock a gix, i even looked at a few 2 buy, but you asked for it. :p So sorry 2 other gixer owners. (:
woodenchairs 2 years ago
No, No cip hes gonna do this on my Honda first so get in line. :P lol
