@37474748 I took it off a guy who replaced his pc back in 2003, he was going to throw it out but I insisted on keeping it myself. Was cutting edge for its time...Slot I Pentium 3, PC100 SDRAM, Creative Soundblaster 16 etc etc
@37474748 Hehe, well 11 years is a long time. I'm amazed it hasn't skipped a beat yet, noisy as ever though (the graphics chip has a fan on it as well as the small cpu one making a racket).
@darthbandon10 yeah older computers are rock solid. modern ones are just unstable... its strange.. ive worked with computers like that for like 10years now and i rearly see an dead computer. sure viruses but not hardware dead. most are just fine :)
@37474748 To be fair I had a lot of hard drive failures happen back then when working with computers in general (from 99-01), on average I'd say components are more reliable now. Whole systems might not be, but that's down to OEMs using minimum possible tolerances in their machines for maximum profit.
@darthbandon10 i got an high end i7 computer had this for an year and lots of strange stuff has broken on it. im sorta getting tired of fixing it. but its allot money in it so i have to. i got dual nvidia 295's for graphics in that one.
then i got an dell precsition 530 i think it was called and that is rock solid. even got an pentium MMX 166mhz with 48mb ram thats rock solid. new stuff just has worse quality.
i would say the best computers that stood the test of time best is 1000mhz :)
@37474748 Never dabbled with Core i7 stuff, don't have the money or the customers. I do have a dual core Athlon 64 and Geforce 7900 system as my current PC, it's been going strong for 4 years now.
@darthbandon10 i needed the power to encode videos in resent amount of time. im also an fan of gameing old and new games. and i work allot with vmware and virtual networking.
So for me it was an given :) gotta love the i7 for its speed but as for the quality of stuff goes im abit upset... :P
@darthbandon10 its not really the cpu more the motherboard and the design of stuff. its killed 3 lcd posters and a few fans. the 295s put out allot of heat. i got 1000watts powering the computer. and i need more power then that. i need about 1500watts. the mobo is really poor designed... im on asus rampage II extreme
@darthbandon10 im the gaming rig two nvidia 295's in quad sli. in the work station one 9800GX2 in sli. In my voodoo rig i got an gf2 titanium and in the laptops i got some gforce chips also. so quite a few :)
@37474748 Quad SLI is very demanding and heat-producing, not surprised you're having problems. Maybe the board doesn't supply clean power with the load put on it, maybe theres an extra connector somewhere? I'm not sure as I don't have the specs to hand.
@darthbandon10 yeah i know its right at the limit the system draws 970watts and the psu is rated at 1000watts. so its damn close to the limit. thats probably why stuff arent working. the temps are about 84c on the gpus while gameing its abit toasty but its not that bad its killing them. what keeps shutting it down is the case them and the psu temp. the psu gets hot. its quite annoying really...
@37474748 PC Power & Cooling are the best psus for something like that. Expensive, but worthwhile. The 1.2kw "turbo-cool" model should be good enough. 100A on 12V, various certifications and a 7 year warranty. They're well known among the enthusiast community.
iv got the exact one pc but i took out the mobo, has integrated voodoo 3 2000 tv 8mb with tv cable linked to the motherboard. lol.

@pkwism The Packard Bell 9450 had one as well, but minus the tv output. I have a working example here :p

@37474748 I was referring to the entire platform, not just the CPU. How many Geforces are you running?

@darthbandon10 im proabably ganna get one more corsair 1000watt psu. those has 80a on the 12v rail.
160amps should be enough i think :) almost enough to start an car so it should power the pc :D

@37474748 Well yeah, for 1999 it was. The P3 had literally just been launched, the original cost of the computer was 1,300 bucks lol
