Oh man intergalactic, I remember having my mind blown by that shit, examining hello nastys cd cover everyday while listening to the whole thing. And then as I get older listening to pauls boutique and licensed to ill, fucking beasties till the break of dawn!
@panrick Yeah, if a token foreign cause for bleeding hearts who don't really care about politics, like the "Tibetan Freedom" cause counts as "political".
@foljs maybe the word 'political' was used loosely or maybe it wasn't. but you are making quite an assumption about people you don't know. Who are you to say they do or do not care about certain things? A celebrity decides to use their popularity to bring attention to a cause and you shit on them? what does it matter what the cause is? Whats wrong with supporting the Tibetans anyway? Is that cause not good enough for you?
@foljs So you just shit on celebrities for the sole reason that they choose to use their platform to discuss something serious, raise $ for charity or xpress opinions. Then you go on to say it is a lame cause. it may not be the most pressing issue at the moment, but who are you to determine the worth of a cause? You sound like a bitter pathetic person who doesn't know the history of Tibet or the Beasties, and that's fine, except you express your opinion about them anyway.
No, I only shit on them when they root for "hip" causes and express silly opinions. It's a part time job.
"who are you to determine the worth of a cause?"
Who am I, NOT TO?
"You sound like a bitter pathetic person who doesn't know the history of Tibet or the Beasties"
Actually, I know a bit about both. For example I know the monks in Tibet weren't exactly saints -more like fierce dictators ruling over the locals. So, not much difference with the Chinese, maybe even better now.
@foljs the beastie boys made the Tibet cause "hip". I wouldn't have said it was 'hip' until they brought it to the foreground. so now they are assholes for bringing it from a cause among many to the hip one for all the kids. Its better then just saying 'fuck it, I'm rich what do I care if a monk is killed or a kid starves' -to shit on somebody for saying or doing something more substantial then fart jokes makes you a bitter pathetic dipshit. why don't you contribute rather then mock.
@foljs "Well, "what the cause is" is kind of the whole point when you are "political", isn't it?"
politically speaking, you are saying a cause should only be relevant if it's current and popular, and no celebrities should express an opinion about it? is that basically your point of view?
saying media stars just do it to feel like they contribute, but isn't that why all people do charity? besides if a star helps a cause raise millions they are contributing, a lot. yet u think they are lame for it
Man, how I really hate these docus, they put everything out of context. Nothing mentioned about who their influences were or their PRE-licensed to ill songs.
"to find out more about the beastie boys dont watch this cause its false".

They said Beasties became political after 9/11? they became political long before that, with Tibetan Freedom Concert and other such ventures.
there are a lot of things wrong with this/
This doc was made by people who did not know the beasties very well at all.

@panrick "A celebrity decides to use their popularity to bring attention to a cause and you shit on them?"
Yeah, that's what I do. I'd do it for Bono too, mind you.
"what does it matter what the cause is?"
Well, "what the cause is" is kind of the whole point when you are "political", isn't it?
"Is that cause not good enough for you?"
Exactly. It's a lame cause, an outlet for media stars to feel like they contribute something. Politics begin at home(land), anyway...
