A few years ago I had the pleasure of being present when the magnificent Rosemary Clooney held court at Herbst Theater here in SF. Now she didn't have the vocal facility of her 1950's career. But the songs she sang that night meant something to her and and the girl singer could communicate with the multi-generational audience like nobody's business. I have also been present when Diana played her piano and sang. She too is a communicator. Vocal talent alone may get a cup of coffee.
Diana Krall may not have the country singing chops of Patsy Cline, but she DOES have phrasing that's up there with (ok, close to) Willie and Frank Sinatra - two other great singers that didn't let a lack of natural gifts stop them from being among the best singers of the modern era. And she's a better natural singer than either of them.
Hey, Mariah Carey has all the natural gifts in the world, but the fact that she didn't learn anything about music kept her from even being listenable.
@chubbychechu2010 Realistically, nobody can sing like Patsy Cline; she was very special. But... she could not play great jazz piano, and so Diana is doing just fine. And sings extremely well, BTW, even if she's no Patsy Cline.
Elvis rules, and does a great job. Check out "Almost Blue" - his country album which has great remakes of some country songs. Of course, Diana Krall is so hot and is so cool....this is a 9 out of 10!

Well Patsy did a country version and this is a jazz version. Anyone who thinks Diana can't sing has no idea what Jazz is. She is just fantastic and Willie deserves everyone's respect.

Diana is good but she reminds me too much of Alicia Keys. Either let go or don't. They both seem like they got major bugs up their asses and try to compensate by over the top mucianship. Nobody cares about that shit other than other anal musicians, usually white yuppies who think going to music school will free them.

Willie may have written it, but NOBODY ever did it like Patsy. Her inflection, voicing...NOBODY. (I don't really even like country music) My dad used to play the P.C. recording when I was a kid, back when it was popular (and she was alive), and even then It sounded...special.
