I am from germany and i think that the american laws are stupid. Here in germany you can drink beer with 16 years and liquor with 18 years. And you can drink it in the public without hide the bottles....

all these people yammering about how this law saves lives completely ignore the fact that tobacco is legal for purchase by 18 year olds. that's right we allow 18 year olds to handle fucking firearms and cancerous radiation sticks which will most certainly take their lives at some point should they choose to smoke, but god forbid they choose to drink. besides dont people over 21 drink and drive to? why is this labelled as connected to the drinking age when its a separate issue?

Let's see: By 18, you're considered a legal adult. You're forced to register for the draft. You can vote. You can live on your own and support yourself. You're capable of making your own decisions. another point about the scene changing from house parties to bars when your 21 is that bars and the rest of the night scene is professionally operated, where there are bouncers and bartenders that make sure that you arent over served and can attend to you if you need to go to the hospital or get a cab home. When your underage, your throwing parties in your basement behind your parents back where there isnt anyone to watch whats going on. i think the later is way more dangerous.
