He's not the best fighter in NHL, no. Haven't said he would be but he sure fights smartly. He does his job extremely well (gets penalties to opponent). Too bad he gets penalties himself too 'cause of his name.

I wouldnt call him a local hero, about half the people hate his play style getting somewhat meaningless penalties and so on. Then there are these kids who see Ruutu's fighting videos on youtube and have never seen another ice hockey fight cos it doesen't belong to the finnish hockey culture, and they think whoa he must be the best fighter or summit. J.Ruutu though is one of my top players, hes agiator and he does his job well from my point of view, he gets lot of penalties to the other side too.

jim slater is 5'11 190...he is small and does not fight often...you might want to re-evaluate your definition of "fighter" if you think that's what slater is...ruutu is a spot picker, clear and simple, it's really difficult for me to see any way you can legitimately argue against that.
