I believe every generation of the Asian people will go through that phase in life where they are repeatedly mocked by ignorant people due to the stereotypes. I know I went through them. now i tend to prove use them as jokes because I know they were made and asked by ignorant people and ignorance is another form of stupidity and I really don't have time for stupidity.

My father is Mulatto (Black+White) and my mother is Japanese. Strangely enough, I don't look like either race.
I've been to America once, and I've been to an American school. I am not going to lie - A lot of white Americans that I've met are VERY undereducated and VERY, VERY uninformed about the world.
Not everyone, of course. People are different. But I'm just talking from my experience...

We need more asians in politics and media. But whenever an asian guy is gaining a little success they keep knocking him down. They don't want asians to succeed. They use ugly looking asians in their movies, and they reject the good looking asian actors. So, asians see there is no place for them in hollywood they tend to choose another profession. Hollywood chooses only nerdy and funny looking asians.

The true reason why a civil rights movement never happened for AZNs isn't the early portrayal at all. Its the non existant effort to change the misconceptions and the diliberate self segregation. True, Asians tend to be "smarter" in some sectors, but also weaker in others. For example, in my school, it's 90% asian and we ace the math/science departments, but we're very weak in the fine and liberal arts.

I don't quite get it. Most of the stereotypes are quite positive. Being smart and good at martial arts are not bad things. Black people get stereotyped as being dumb and criminals - those are bad things.
I understand that the media does not portray Asians as being sexual. But that has a lot to do with their culture. The Asian culture is sexually repressive. Until that changes, it will be hard to place them in such roles and for it to believable.

No. My perception of them as such had nothing to do with the media. It has to do with an examination of their culture. Cultures in the East are not as free and open about sexuality as cultures in the Western parts of the world. Even in their pornography, they are required by law to blur out the sexual organs.

And it may seem that positive stereotypes do no harm, but that is not true.Not all Asians are smart and good at martial arts, and whenever there's that dissonance between what is expected and what is true, how much pressure do you think is imposed? Suicide rates in Asian cultures speak quite strongly to this effect.

Although they may be positive, they negatively impact asian daily. The whole smart thing creates a model minority image of intelligent, hard-working asians. As such, asians are often held to a higher standard. They have to work harder, oftentimes for less money. And asians have very low rates of upward mobility and almost never reach executive positions. Also, struggling asian students are often overlooked by teachers who assume they will do fine just because they're asian.

And as for martial arts, it's very annoying to be associated with one sensationalized aspect of your culture (which is not even applicable to most other asian cultures). We shouldn't be defined by stereotypical aspects, but should be looked at on an individual basis. Plus, if you do have an interest in MA, people will take the view of "oh, of course you do, you're asian" and sometimes will belittle any achievements you may have because it seems "normal" for a person of your race.

I seen racist a couple of times when I was a kid, but I can't share the same pain. Im from Cali O.C. theres a whole society of Vietnamese/Pinoy/Cambodian. If I have to explain how my area is like as a youngster, I would say in school the way things govern is like prison. You have Your Asian group, Mexican group and White group. No one really crosses each other line disrespectfully. Once in a while we give shit to each other, but most of the time we get along just fine.
