@MasterTiarnan Herbert Morrison. He was actually making an audio-only recording for his radio station, and the audio was later dubbed to the newsreel. There's an article on wiki.
If you look up Lakehurst NJ on google maps, and look at the airfield, and zoom in, and drag the orange man to where you see the blue dots on the map, you'll see the Hindenburg Memorial. They also still have the humongo-sized hangar where it stayed as a memorial.
The reporter overreacted. "Worst catastrophe in the world"? I don't think so. Yes, it was certainly shocking, but other reporters have seen worse and stayed calmer.
@Ciuuzz Dude, they ran off because they were scared the airship might fall over their heads! Then, when they noticed they were distant enough and safe, they went back to help. I don't see anything undecided there. Everyone would have done exactly the same thing if it had happened today!
@Ciuuzz thats not what ironic means. That is a total miss use of the word ironic.. sory to be one of jerks correcting things but i just cant stand it when people completly misuse ironic.
@kurayami121 I've never asked if i missed or not the meaning of ironic. My comment doesn't reflect on you. So if you can't find the joke, you can just forget it.
This is not joke, there was once a girl named summer an md she no nose or ears and lots of scabs! She died. Post this on five other sites or else she will come one night and kill you!
It's practically standing still now they've dropped ropes out of the nose of the ship; and (uh) they've been taken ahold of down on the field by a number of men. It's starting to rain again; it's... the rain had (uh) slacked up a little bit. The back motors of the ship are just holding it (uh) just enough to keep it from...It's burst into flames! It's burst into flames and it's falling it's crashing! Watch it; watch it! Get out of the way; Get out of the way! Get this, Charlie; get this, Charli
This was such a sad event. I can't believe it actually happened beacause it stopped the history of Blimps. And now it reminds us that this could happen anyday, anytime ,anywhere, etc. And the cause was (this can be debated) static electricity iginiting a hydrogen gas leak. Very sad... :(
@wasp9 It's not a bad thing for the media to be emotionally distant. Seeing people keep their composure on TV can really help people not break down themselves. Those two reporters who were doing 9/11 live said "Every time it became too hard and I was about to cry, I passed the camera over, and then he'd do the same a few minutes later."
Uh...All I said was it seemed to me that he was speaking very calmly. As happycaddy said he does seem pretty distressed but this newscaster was calmer than I would be in that situation.(Which is a good thing.)
@busch760 This wasn't a german fenomenon, alot of zepperlins like this where built during this era. Although, it's easy to say what went wrong when it's already happend.
@PsyentificViewpoint They were originally going to fill it with helium but the U.S wouldn't sell them helium so they used hydrogen as an emergency gas
@PsyentificViewpoint Sorry but you are wrong. It wasn't the flammable gas (hydrogen) that caused the hindenburg to explode, it was the aluminium powder that covered the extremely flammable cellulose which covered the fabric which was filled with hydrogen. These days aluminium powder is used as rocket fuel to propel space shuttles into orbit.
@PsyentificViewpoint It was likely a combination of both. The flammable hydrogen gas most probably was the primary cause of the explosion itself and the thermite-like paint job is most likely what caused it to burn as quickly as it did.
@PsyentificViewpoint the reason I know the answer is because I got the information from Dr Karl Kruszelnicki Book 'Great Myth Conceptions.' And he says that it is said that it was the hydrogen that ignited to blow up the ship but that and it was actually the aluminium powder.
The balloon part is obviously not filled with people. There were about 100 people in the car attatched to the bottom and most of them got out in time.
@ZomBLord Well you better think again then. Hitler came to power in Germany in 1933, the Hindenburg disaster was in 1937. Why do you think the US wouldn't let them have helium gas? Watch the video of the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games opening ceremony to see what influence the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei had the year before the Hindenburg disaster.
@MrMecoboy001 It is a sad day for the humanity to hear such a remark... If you actually saw that disaster happen right in front of you and didn't feel like crying, then you are not human. And cry doesn't automatically means you're a bitch: only real men can cry, so I guess you're not one...
@kamkamkam25 So I'm not human, just because I think that these kinds of things are funny. I honestly cannot remember a day when I laughed more, then when I saw the planes crash into WTC, and when the towers themselves collapsed, that was just hilarious.
So is it true that Saint Dane, Spader, Bobby, Gunny, and Winn Farrow were responsible for this disaster? Was it true that Gunny held Bobby back from saving the people on the Hindenburg? Also, is it true that Max Rose had valuables on the Hindenburg? Also was it true that if the Hindinburg landed safely, the Nazi's would nuke the US? The world may never know. D.J. McHale is the only person who really knows what happened the day of this disaster.
@Djinnhydra No I mean the only people who would dislike this are people who died in the Hindenburg disaster. 83 people disliked this, they all died in the Hindenburg disaster.
I kinda feel bad for Herbet Morrisson (the narrator). That was a true jornalist, reminds me Walter Cronkite crying when annouced JFK death. Today we see weirdo Glenn Back weeping because theres Mr Black Blackman in the Whitehouse... pathetic!
