The race issue goes both ways. Some voted for McCain simply because he was white, but many blacks voted for Obama simply because he was black. Many blacks are religious and fairly conservative, which is very unlike Obama and his policies. Blacks voted for Obama mostly for his race. Certainly some whites voted for McCain because of his race, but this DOES go both ways and you can't cry foul one way, if the race card also benefited Obama in more ways than it hurt him.

I don't care about his religious life. What I care about is how his heritage, his ethnicity in particular as the descendant of a muslim, may have an effect on his future decisions. As a senator he dealt with mostly local issues, but as US president he is gonna have to deal with issues I wouldn't trust him to. Bigot? IMHO, Obama doesn't represent americans. Of course there *are* different ethnicities within Islam, I never said *all* muslims are equal, or *all* jews are, or *all* christians are or whatever. But still, Barack Hussein Obama can't hide his origins and as HE SAID HIMSELF, muslims like him for a reason. What disqualifies him from being president is the potential bias in favor of several ethnic groups, not his friends or his beliefs or his heritage, but how all these things combined may blind his decisions by not favoring the people that actually voted for him, which may not be the same people as those he actually cares about.

Neither Obama nor Lieberman could represent Americans, since they are probably biased towards their own ethnic minorities and those they share affinities with, even when both are still very capable individuals. There are many different parties, but only the Republican and Democratic party actually stand a chance of winning. America is a two-party system, like it or not. Hillary and Obama were competing for the Democratic ticket, and Obama won it. McCain was competing with Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and others for the Republican ticket, but they dropped out earlier. So now it's Obama vs McCain for presidency.

The single-member district always leads to two parties. It's based on a few things, but mostly it's based on strategic voting choices.

mtanti87, they are called independent parties. There are many of them, the reason why we dont hear much of them is because our two party system works very well. What happens is the two major parties tend to (for the lack of words) leech ideas from the independent parties. Plus, if the two party system just happens to add an extra party, then most voters will vote for the person who doesn't win.
