OMG, What soul, Marvin Gaye was the most soulful singer I ever heard.....The man was a pure genius! What a trageic waste of one of the most gifted singers/songwriters who ever lived! Thanks for sharing this video
MARVIN GAYE IS FANTASTIC!!! <3 He is AMAZING! <3 A LEGEND <3 WHAT'S GOING ON <3 fuck them 2 who missed the like button! MARVIN GAYE FOREVER! <3 LOVE YOU <3

hey people out there marvin gaye fans i love marvin also i did a couple of videos under marvin gaye impersonators and i am doing my best to lip sing some of his great tune please i am not here to kill a legend but to keep a gift that god gave us please type in Marvin Gaye Impersonators and let's us keep what Marvin wanted going
GREAT clip!! i always wondered though why Marvin didnt do a medley of his hits on thi show instead of just doin ONE song. had he done "Sexual Healing" he wouldve given Michael Jackson a run for his money on this show.
@ghanasoul It would've been awesome had he done Sexual Healing, but since he recorded that song with CBS instead of Motown, I don't think that could've/would've happened...but if you look at the Grammys of 83, Marvin got busy on Sexual Healing.
@lva3461 That is very true & that I definitely understand...but you know that it was a great thing that he performed his most important song "What's Going On' for Motown 25.....I'm glad that he did that landmark song instead of Sexual Healing...besides, he did Sexual Healing at the Grammy Awards. lol
SUPERB. Watch Marvin work the mike--it reminds me of Sinatra. They say James Jamerson was in the house that night--having bought his own ticket to watch from the top balcony. :-( Wonder if the bass player was thinking of him... And why were more people not on their feet at the end?
he inspires me as a singer a songwriter a woman a human being a person who loves everyone no matter where they are born or what language they speak,....Marvin....you stay in my heart always....
I usually don't like songs live but this one is the best of all time. Motown, get with it and get the Motown 25 on dvd. We have lost so many that performed that night. Bring them back for the fans.
I totally agree. It's been 26 years since Motown 25, it's about time for it to be released on DVD. As for this performace, one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. No one can sing like Marvin Gaye.
Maybe, just maybe, with the new interest of Michael Jacksons famous performance of Billie Jean due to his death, maybe we'll finally see it released on DVD.
It's already on DVD, it's called THE MOTOWN COLLECTION and includes ''Motown on Ready, Steady, Go'', ''Motown 25'' and ''Motown returns to the Apollo'' parts I and II. You can probably find it at E-bay.I can't remember wher I got my copy. Chubby Portugues
I can see in this performance that Marvin forsaw the neo-soul movement by 25 nearly 30 years!!!! Genius...sheer genius!!! Don't tell me Marvin wasn't a visionary
Can You believe in his Entire Career 1 Grammy. And it was Sexual Healing. Solely because who was, and still is in control of what is defined of as Music Today. I Love All Races and Greeds But White America, not my brothers directly to my right which consist of all creeds, But those dedicated to Power, Money, and Control that have Corrupted, and Made Mockery of Music.
Marvin Gaye to Chris Brown, 2Pac to Soulja Boy, Beatles to the Jonas Brothers, Aretha Frankln to Beyonce, Patsy Cline to Taylor Swift & Miley Cruise. Whats Goin On?
Tell me about it. Actually, I believe he won 2 grammys that night, but still. It makes me mad that some of todays artist have a whole case full of grammys and a true legend like Marvin Gaye have to go an entire career before he's finally rewarded.
No offense to John Legend, who I like, but he already has like 5 grammys. What is going on?
I agree with you...Its like Music was like everyone's resting place for peace and reasoning when all is gone and taken away what else is to live for when creativity and freedom of spirit is taken away?

The album is a masterpiece and Marvin poured all his joy and pain into his music. A Complete legend who was way ahead of his time.

Marvin Gaye was a Genius.
I love this performance it's perhaps the most powerful I ever saw.
As high as he soared he sank as low.
Even Genius exacts it's toll.

Marvin Gaye, was a piano player, song writer, singer and a POET! How much of that exists in the music industry today?
Of the Music Industry of today, I ask the timeless question: What's Going On?
