  • I'm so happy about Plushenko's comeback... I love Evgeni... He's the best in this world!!!!!

  • [7:15] Q: ha-ha, that last one seems like a not-so unimportant aspect. And of course, Alexey Nickolaevich, I cant help asking you to comment on the quality of all performances today, since you watched everybody.

ANM: I watched all, and everybody has their own bright stylish character. Thats why I think the fight will be very serious, and I see at least 10 athletes who can put forward a claim to the highest place on the podium in Vancouver. No illusions here-work, work and work.

  • Fighter instinct is there and there is space for improvement, we have no illusions. The struggle ahead is challenging. And finally, I would like to say that we are preparing not for a medal, but for the fight for the medal.

Q: AN, what in his personality makes him a winner?

ANM: It is 3 parts: natural talent—that is one--, 2 conditions of his early training- company of Urmanov, Yagudin, Novoseltsev, one of the strongest in the world, and finally he stumbled on a sensible coach--three.

  • Q: did you believe last year that he would come back?

[5:30] ANM: I thought he would, why? Because in his life after there was no satisfaction. It was a life not for him—it was without spice--no-salt-no-pepper. Without ketchup, you knowwithout a good sauce, bland. And 2ly, I once told him—before his comeback—everyone should be doing what they can do best. And he cant do anything better than he does skating, and may not even learn to.. so thats why I think it was a good decision.

  • Q: AN, Zhenia in his interview said that he was amused by such things as hotel check-in, interacting with other skaters, entering the ice, training sessions, warm-ups, and what about you, I know you were working all these years-and were not on vacation like Zhenia, but still do you catch these new emotions with him.

ANM: You know with him, I have different emotions... I gained a new feeling—the joy of working with a talented man. This feeling is of course very nice.

  • . I think that Zhenia didnt lose his. This is first. And the second is, whatever may be said, the new system of rules is perhaps not the best reflection of such a parameter as the personal charisma. Because in my opinion, Zhenia radiates it—it is one of few outstanding sportsmen who radiate the image, the aura, they charge with it—that perhaps was not always evaluated in the last few years at competitions. These two moments are perhaps—killer instinct and charisma are not lost in him.

Q: ... Alexey Nickolaevich, now the question is to you: how did you like your pupil in this first performance.

ANM: you know, it would be very simple and a bit near-sighted to evaluate any element or say, some rotation. I think now at the threshold of the athletic life that is opening up for him, I believe, the first thing to note is that he did not lose the sense of fighting. As one famous tennis coach used to say that B.Becker had killer instinct.

  • [2:24] BTW, your appearance in 1 spot and rating of 0—did these hurt your ego somehow? No, not really, 01 is my favorite number, I think it all makes sense, even my license plates is 01. So I guess 01 is probably my sort of thing. Well, well see what number will I get tomorrow.

Q: for tomorrow—wishing you neither feather, no dawn [traditional good luck wish—.]

  • [1:38] today I am happy with my performance, maybe not all 100%, because I doubled the 3 lutz—was a bit too fast to relax and think I pocketed it, the short program, I did well. But am happy with 2 most difficult jumps: with the cascade of 4-3, it came out ideal as planned, and with 3 axel which came out ideal. There is space for improvement... one must plough, plough, and plough— work on footsteps, rotations, transitions. Tomorrow, is another day, and the main program—the FS.

  • Q: has something changed in your perception of all these seemingly usual things?

YP: something did in fact change. Here is one—Plushenko has zero rating and he is performing in first spot. This is interesting. But we took the printouts for good memory and well be trying to catch up the athletes. The system is new, interesting, complicated, perhaps in some areas needs more work, but what can you do? Everybody is skating, and I have to.

  • [00:45]YP: Tough... Tough, nerve-straining.. Ah, you know, when coming to this competition I remembered certain things—like registration at the hotel, this atmosphere when youre surrounded by athletes, judges, coaches, competitors. It is very interesting.

  • [00:00]Our guest is Alexey Nikolaevich Mishin—his changeless wonderful coach. Alexey Nickolaevich, I congratulate you on his performance. [Mishin nods]. Before we begin our conversation let us hear from Zhenia what he said right after left the ice.

[00:35] Yevgeni, Im very happy to see you. This is no longer a local competition, not a check up demonstration, not a cup of Moscow, it is the Olympic season at full speed. How it is, the comeback?
