Just like to point one thing out, you said it's damn quick considering it's only 1 cpu on the virtualbox.. It's well documented on thousands of posts that using more than 1 cpu on a virtual slows it right down.

Does miranda run on linux? If yes then how come they are not using it instead of pidgin?

I always wondered why they don't use a lighter version of im program in those distros. Its supposed to be light and pidgin imho isn't. Miranda would be a far better choice....
