  • I'm a Yank, born and bred to be American. But I'm not so blind to actually thing that you could beat a Defender. Land Rovers are easily the toughest vehicles on the road.

  • @doctormoose6

bullshit i go a 67 international scout that would crawl all over that junk!

  • I could beat a Defender 90. I could get me a branch with some leaves on the end and I would Basil thrash that Land-Rover within an inch of it's muddy life!!

  • i could do that with my moms cadillac lame video dude next time climb mount Everest or something worthwhile to watch.

  • I have a Defender 90 and the reason why i have one is because its a good all round vehicle, whether it being cold, wet, snowy, sunny, or swamp/muddy ground, it will make sure it gets to from A to B, and back again.

Don't see many Ford's managing that!

  • I,m an English guy and i have had a defender from new in 96,, i put a galvanised chasiss on her and a stainless steel exaust she starts evry time never let me down has done 150 tho still pulls like a mule so i love it BUT the American humvee is a better tool ,, just sayin

  • you're right - the Landie's are THE best ever in the mud/snow/sand - everything are just pretending and playing at it.

It just all seems abit wated when you driving down the motorway and popping to the shops for a pint of milk.

    Zool (Nissan Navara)

  • a Jeep can beat it...

  • @clockwork624 My stock 95 Disco with regular tires goes more places than my brothers 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a two inch lift and off-road tires.

  • pretty sweet car there barbie

  • Nice Defender, what suspension have you got on there? 4 inch lift?

  • Great trucks when they run. I own one and it is the least reliable vehicle I've ever owned. That's saying a lot because I've owned some real clunkers.

  • VERY DIFICULT INDEED!!!!

  • my grandma can beat this...

  • ive hit bigger potholes on the freeway

  • wow y dont you try goin through the water

  • im english and own a grand jeep cherokee 4.0L so god bless america and their gas guzzleing powerhouses yeeehaaaa

  • Land Rover - 75% of ALL landy's ever made are still on the road and still used WORLD WIDE - used by third world countries for their go anywhere reliability!

Not man (any) Yank vehicles doing THAT now is there?......

  • i could beat that in a wheel barrel

  • id like the 4 door 1

  • I'm an American and I prefer a Suzuki Samurai. Perfect little trucks. Straight axle, about the same wheelbase as a quad and super light. Perfect through a 4 inch lift under it 32's and a locker and you have a truck that can outdo any other.

  • Land Rovers don`t need 36" they`re simply the best... but American Jeep Wrangler is also a beast. In fact, I want to get a 4WD car and I doubt a lot between both them...

  • ya can beat anything with a big enuff stick (especialy a defender)

  • very pleasant land anchor placement. 10/10

  • is that all those ugly out of date tin lizzys can do ???

me thinks its time you got a better 4x4

    RIP land rover

  • @MrXBOXPLAYER93 A better 4x4? Like what?

  • JEEP

  • I am thinking of trading in my sires 3 in for a defender, what are they like compared, mine is a 2.25 petrol ware as I have been told the best bet for a defender is a TD5.

  • @syncmaster710n14 It is a completly different vehicle, I love my 90 but it depends what you want it for. the td5 is good. Its easy to tune ans fairly strong. but it does have engine managment and if you are going to take it off road youle have to move it with a kit from under the seat. and they are thirstier than my 300tdi but faster and a bit quieter. Having said that I love my 300 and feel its the best apart from a TGV but thats another level. Could you reply. I want to know what happens

  • @300tdi90 Thanks, Well my land rover is a working (farming) vehecle, so it has to tow various trailers, get though deep mud (2ft), carry heavy loads (1-2T) climb steep hills exedra. I borrowed my mates 200tbi for a day but I was not too impressed as although it was faster and could handle mud and hills better, it wouldn’t tow even a 2Tone trailer, it just stalled every time I got in to 3rd gear. I was looking into a TD5 or a 300tbi but not really sure what Iam looking at. Any advice?

  • @syncmaster710n14 TD5 Mate!! I have a Defender TD5 and you cant beat it!! It'll tow anything I want and go anywhere I want......literatly!

I once pulled a Caterpillar 463G scraper box weighing around 18 Tonnes, also pulled a 44 Tonne fully loaded artic fast enough for him to drop the clutch and bump start it!!

Land Rover is The Best 4x4xfar

  • @identity247 Very nice, but to late, I bought a ex police 07 model defender with the 2.4 TDCI engine and a 6 speed gear box last week. REALLY impressed goes like stink and can tow a 8 tonne combin at 80mph!!!, Its NUTs. Thanks for the advice though.

  • @syncmaster710n14 The 200 and 300 TDi put out around the same power and torque. The TD5 kills 'em for both. Apart from some early model head gasket issues, they are very reliable. Make sure that BOTH oil filters are changed when needed. The other thing is the wiring loom for the injectors. My TD5 is brilliant, although I should say it has a chip upgrade.

    Go the TD5.

  • @imjohntins TD5'S are limp drive your TD5 through a deep river or lake an then tell me there brilliant the ecu gets water because its under the drivers seat an the body control unit gets wet an they don't start my mate has his own land rover garage an all so owns a well known land rover parts specialist an TD5'S are in every week gettin fixed there shite ......defender 300 tdi is the best by far better that 200's td5's 2.4 tdci an v8's

  • @v6cabby td5 are brilliant engines all moddern 4x4s have ecu's, if your planning on wading you just have to move it to a higher place in the cab and waterproof the electrics.

  • @JoshHurdissHall but if you have a 300 tdi you don't need to move fuck all just go

  • In fact you can...just take a VW T3 Syncro ;)

  • Nice video and car mate. Ignore the dumb comments from the Jap lovers here. Defenders rule.

  • @smithythefierce let me see whos rivits start poppin out first when we av a tug of war

  • better than a hummer at least

  • luke250829:

Well, don't confuse the big, boxy GMC-Yukon based "hummers" running around various parking lots, with the REAL military HMMWV (also called "Humvee")...The military humvees are VERY capable offroad...second only to the Unimog. The "Hummers" are nothing nothing but IMPOSTERS designed to make a buck off the reputation of the HMMWV. Don't confuse trhe two. The "Hummers" are a disgace to the name.

  • you need a landcrusier for terrain like this

  • you need it for everything :D!!!!!

  • You land-cruiser nutjobs crack me up!!

Let's see: the new toys are now ridiculously big and bulky (to satisfy the fat-arsed american consumer)....the new ones look more like a mini-van. They are totally up on luxury and down on capability. They are no where NEAR as rugged or as long-lasting as a Series II or IIA land-rover or Stage One (neither is a Defender for that matter...LOL.. ;) Buy a Land-Cruiser if U want cup-holders and Power-seats. Buy a Series Land-Rover if want it for 60 years!

  • Dude... we're not talking about the new ones... We're talking about the 40, 70 and 80 series!!!! A landcruiser gets you everywhere in full comfort. Do that with a LR Defender... and you can go to the hospital with pain in the back... Having a LR for 60 years?

Impossible... Landrovers are one of the biggest unreliable cars... Of course, they are image cars... but people prefer reliable and safe offroaders. Check out Africa / Australia... they'll laugh at you & the defender.

  • Personally I am not talking about the Defender....Defender is no where NEAR as well made or as simply RUGGED as the old Series IIA....just like the new "land-cruisers" are no where near as rugged as the old FJ-40s. The OLD rovers (Im talking about from the 1960's thru NO LATER than 1971) Don't have those reliability issues that the new ones have. They don't even have electronics, and barely electrics. My Series IIA is 40 years old and has 478, 855 miles. same engine. SLOW...but long-lasting!!

  • Same with Landcruiser ... the 80 is the last one with almost no electronics, easy to repair when need. I once heard someone landcruiser FJ40 did 700 000 kilometres without going to a garage or anything like that...!

LR's are one of the most unsafe cars built (worst one is the Mini-Cooper, & safest car is the Lexus). But the LandRovers have just that certain image which make you either love it or hate it... if people love it,, they dont care about the reliability!

  • @MegaG15 land rovers are reliable if you no how to properly maintain em!! THI JUS TOOLS MAN

  • @lapperz123 That's with all cars man... :)

  • When people are driving by in those old landrovers, people will turn their head to look at it... thats not what you get when driving a landcruiser (except for those FJ 40's). Its just an image the cars have.

  • ha ha...maybe so...the old rovers HAVE developed an iconic status over the years....because that's what people saw in all the old National Geographic Magazines and such....they seem to personify rugged adventure.

I would be lying if I said that ISN'T one of the reasons why I continue to drive my totally expedition equpped Series IIA short wheelbase for 23 years. I LOVE all the admiring looks it STILL continues to get at every gas station and street corner.

But it is also EXTREMELY rugged.

  • Yeah its an iconic car, thats the word for it. Both Landcruiser & Landrover are the best offroaders you can get. But the landcruisers were especially made for Africa, to keep driving no matter what & that in comfort :).

  • MegaG15:

You sure seem to speak in "american" english for someone from the Netherands. Are you an american transplanted to the Netherlands?

They don't use much salt on the roads in the Netherlands....(I have been all through the Netherlands in winter)...the LC 40s, 70s and 80s have BIG RUSTING issues in other countries that use salt on the roads...(like where I live)....I have seen old toyotas that barely had any body left. Using aluminum/magnesium body is a genius idea.! No rust body.

  • That is true... thats only thing that toyota has for issues... the rust. But thats why people need to wash their cars extremely well inthose weather conditions (especially the chassis etc).

Haha, no I'm a real dutch boy :P only 17, almost 18 ! But I'm alot on youtube, and speak alot english (cuz I also game alot etc). Haha, but i see it as a compliment :)!

  • @MegaG15

I have spent much time traveling around the Netherlands (or Holland, as they mistaking call it in THIS country...they don't realize that only a small part of the Netherlands is thought of as "Holland").

A wonderful country! I was touring around with a bicycle...and found it to be a GREAT place for bicycling....especially along the canals. I have never seen as many bikes as I did in Amsterdam!! A lot less fat people because of all that bicycle use. Wish it was same here...LOL.

  • Hahahaha XD yeah... we all cycle, even in the winter when it's -5 C, we keep cycling! :)

  • as a fellow landrover driver i say to you.

this video is lame, i could do this with my citroen 2cv standard :D

  • @savagedefender

ha ha....maybe....but only because 2CVs are light enough for 6 or so people to carry up the tough spots....LOL.

  • 6ppl can carry the 2CV up and over tough spots :D ;-)

  • i would rather have a defender than a ford anyday....

  • Americans... 'bigger is better' mentality. OF COURSE your FAT FORD could take that ditch easily, as it happens to be about 1000lbs heavier and is a much bigger vehicle overall. You cannot compare your bloated, revolting yank tank to the Defender 90, which is the same length as a Ford Fiesta. You're obviously having to make up for something with your '36" Super Swampers'.....

  • i agree that defender is running near standard size tires , 36 super swampers? dont make me laugh my landy would get through that on road tyres

  • Bloody Americans. They don't like the fact that we have a better 4x4 than them. Haha.

  • Come over here and find one?

The only way they keep going is with THOUSANDS in repairs, and constantly do ing them.

Even Consumer Reports say's they're junk.

Bloody Britts... Too full of themselves to accept reality.

Lucas invented the short circuit, British cars and motorcycles invented the oil leak, and Mr. Toyota invented the best 4wd in the world.

oh, & Rover axles are weak by (pinion) design and LT boxes bring the suck.

  • iv not seen a good/well made car from the states or one that could go around a corner (that's a bend in the road! yup they do that in other parts of the world) or have manufacturers that sell car's to the public knowing that there are faults on them like exploding fuel tanks faulty electrics and such! If landies are so bad how come the best army in the world still uses them and not landcrusier or hummer shit! So sorry if this sounds like i am so full of myself and not in-touch with reality!

  • And you're not in touch with simple economics!

Why do you think a the US military uses Hummers? A great 4WD, one of the best, but would bleed the average man dry in repairs! Sound familiar?

Do you honestly think one country would buy another's 4WD? They've got a budget from tax payers so they can fix them till the cows come home. And what does that say to a culture if your gov buys another country's car to ride around in?

god you're funny. But you're right about cars made in the states.

  • @F0ckUtoob your army has been running discoverys in iraq cos it is narrow and nimble and it can run on kero/jet fuel.I like hummers but for their size not very useful

  • @F0ckUtoob :

Nonsense, you idiot. Please don't be myopic and confuse the VERY trusty and simple Series II and IIA (the BEST land rovers!!) with the over-complicated Range Rovers and Discoveries. The latter two DO have maintenance problems....for whatever reason, but they do.

The old, ORIGINAL Series land-rovers, (those made BEFORE the Series III and Defender) DO NOT share ANY of those reliability issues.

They are tough as old goats andsuper- rugged and simple.

  • I might agree with you, but I don't have ANY factual basis. You have to remember the US did not get one single Diesel. We ONLY got the Buick(?) derived, dry cylinder(?) V8. & I'm sorry but with a LT 85(?) it's just a POS only the rich can afford... & afford to maintain. They hardly saw any off road compared to outside the US. & I'm sorry, but the axles are shite for anything heavy duty in the US... like 35" & up tires & the electronics are a nightmare

Sorry. Those are the facts, not opinion

  • F0ckUtoob:

Like I had just got done saying...I am talking about the ORIGINAL land-rovers....the Series II and Series IIA. I don't know why you keep on dragging Range Rovers and Discoveries into it, I don't really consider these vehicles Land Rovers....not in keeping with the land rover's history of agricultural-derived ruggedness and simplicity. I've already stated that the discos and rangies had reliability issues.

But they did import in the sixties to US with MANY 4 cylinder diesels.

  • @F0ckUtoob :

yer probably an aussie who hates Brits. You hate them for expelling all your former British prisoner and convict ancestors to roast down there in the hot sun. LOL.

  • Negative Ghost rider... I'm american, unfortunately... (I don't like this place)

Please, feel free to search a site called "Consumer Reports" & see what they say about ANY LandRover/ RangeRover.

They have NO resale value here & that DIRECTLY relates to quality. Again, sorry for the FACTS.

lol, "Consumer Reports" That's all this country is, is "consumers"

  • LOL..I agree with you on what America has become, though: A land of consumeristic capitalism where profit and money are king and rule above all else.

That's why most products on store shelves are made like crap nowadays. Sure they are cheap...but one has to buy 3 or 4 to replace something like a washer or a drier that used to last 30 0r 40 years...now last maybe 5. And try to even find a good drill made as durable or as rugged as a 1965 standard drill. You can't. Same with OLD land-rovers!

  • @SamTheSuave HAHAHA 'Yank tank'! I'm keeping that one lol!

  • @SamTheSuave

Good shit! I have a 95 D90 and a 95 RangeRover SWB Classic, both are incredible machines. Comparing them to anything else is really a joke.

  • @SamTheSuave English... they've never heard of the jeep, the ones that saved them from speaking german and eating potatoes in a concentration camp and almost have the same weight and length as a jeep. You british will never learn.

  • @yaseenshuja1 oh yeah about WW2 - Thanks for helping out there at the end. War might have lasted another 2 or 3 months without you.

  • @yaseenshuja1 Ah yeah! America....Muslim state! Allu Akbar yank!..Won everything that could be one, single handed whilst smoking a cigar and yet you are over-run and utterly dominated by ragheads! Way to go! Need us to help? You yanks will never learn...

  • @SamTheSuave My goodness I totally agree with you. Americans should put some fries in their fat mouth and shut up.

  • @SamTheSuave Anyone can accuse someone of over compensating for something, but it takes real balls to own up to a little pecker.

  • @SamTheSuave wow thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard shorter wheelbase is a huge advantage on trails but when it comes to the mud we have here in the states and the muskeg and peat bogs stock defenders along with ANYTHING stock will die, ive seen trucks on 66inch rice and cane tires get swallowed in a muskeg and a peat bog, so plz have respect you dont wheel these types of locations we do, i run 40s because my trucks a mud truck plain and simple

  • @SamTheSuave a yank tank would probalby get high centered on most of this course anyways.

  • @SamTheSuave one word WRANGLER

  • @SamTheSuave Someone's a little butthurt

  • @SamTheSuave

You talkin' shit about Americans? Go check on your kids and come back and let me know what you find.

  • A defender has a low ratio gearbox, making it able to get up a 45 degree hill without much effort. I don't see that happening with your f150 anytime soon.

  • Im 15 and i could fix my land rover

  • Nice 90 but lets demo it on something a bit more chalenging, I seen rougher tracks in my under pants.

  • u must learn how to fix the land rover before u buy one

  • ok... what do you think about suzuki samurai jx?

  • um there is not a wrangler in this video any where this car is a land rover

  • reject

  • Lovely 90 you got there mate, we all know a 90 can beat anything :P

  • wow, your ford would be the best 4x4 in the world.... If the world was made out of mud.... But guess what? It isn't.. Which is why the Land Rover is a class above your Ford.. How many times has Ford won 4Wheel Drive of the year? That's right....

  • f150 still run leaf springs you twat. there big and heavy and shithouse. why does the army use land rovers? cause their basically unstoppable..

  • yeah man , what about the fuel consume ?

  • so you comparing a brand knew defender to a second hand f-150. u can get landys that cheap and not have to pay that much for decent tyres to. how much is a brand knew f-150 anyway ?

  • Any reason why the bloke is hanging out the window? LETS GRIP IT, YYEEEAAAAHHHHHHHH

  • Toy cant but 110 can ;)

  • Nice, but are you sure that a 90Defender cant be beat by a 71 Cruiser SWB?

    ;)

  • yep seen it beat every suv i saw the military version out perform a military hummer h1

  • Yep, dead certain. Pulled too many Land Bruisers from the mud with a County and a Niva (!) You couldn't give me a Tojo.

  • Ok...but let's make the comparison between a '71 Land-Rover Series IIA SWB and the japanese copy-cat '71 Land-cruiser FJ-40 swb.

The rover is WAY more ruggedly built and durable. 90% (probably even higher) of the old Series rovers are still on the road. They're body NEVER rusts! How many FJ-40's are still on the road? Not many at all. They DO rust. Rovers have way more articulation...PTO front and back vs. NONE....Engine seems to last literally forever...you can start it w/ a hand-crank.
