This is really a nice airplane and I don't know why anyone would pass this up. Great for two people and some baggage for the weekend. Great panel! I figure 115kts true on 5.0gph Rotax engine is very very reliable.
I have this plane. well my dad has. But not from Piper but from CZAW sportcruiser. but piper bought it up. but i wanna say its a veeery good one. you dont need much space to land. u can use benzine even of the car. and it flies so smooth ;)

I stick to what we already know. Old technology has proven its durability. I'll stick to my 1974 Piper Cherokee 140
I think its extremely STUPID to TRAIN for PRIVATE PILOT in a GLASS COCKPIT. That is sooo stupid. Students are going to be clueless in a regular cockpit. You gotta understand gyro, pitot, vacume.. pretty soon your guna need to be certified electrician to know anything about your systems.
@mkitch I know what you are saying but to look at it from the other side, when they first started to put in glass cockpits they put in a mechanical backup Attitude Indicator and Altimeter, now the "glass" has proved itself so much more reliable than the mechanical instruments if anything they put in a backup glass panel instrument.
You also have to learn the same instruments gyro etc just shown in a different format.
What's the point on learning mechanical instruments when glass is the future?
Price I am dissapointed. This is really a better Piper Tomahawk. They could have came in under 100k and beat Cessna with new sales. I also agree some how you have to make a LSA under the 100k mark ...Someone said a good Cessna 172 can be bought for 60 to 75 they are correct, however you need a regular pilots lic. and a lot of people don't want it or need it.
Can you clue me in on what you mean by "regular" pilots license? I just stumbled across a few videos about this plane and it rekindled a childhood dream of flying.
Is there a different type of license associated with a plane this small?
This is not affordable. These LSAs need to start around 50k. I can go get a used 172 for much less then this. Maybe its affordable for some Rich Business man.
I love it when they say an entry point aircraft between 120 -140k when I am looking at older Pipers for less then 60. Not many people have 120k of disposable income. Vans RV for 1/2 the cost, heck you could build and RV10 for that and cary 4 real people on FAA people.
@SoCalSurfer69 Yeah I agree - doesn't 60k buy a nice car in the US? Maybe LSAs will bring back some of the volume required to make aircraft more reasonable. This Piper badge-engineering exercise makes the Cessna look like even poorer value considering the cost of labour in China compared to the Check republic. Not knocking the aircraft though - it seems pretty good. Although if it glides like a Piper....
This airplane has a useful load of 600 pounds compared to the Cessna 162's useful load of 480 pounds. It seems like Cessna didn't put quite enough real thought into their design. Kudos to Piper for picking a superior product.
This is a real winner for Piper. Great to see the Rotax engine too; it is durable, good fuel economy, low noise and best of all plenty of power for the plane. Time will prove this is a great move by Piper.
Bit of a half-arsed effort on Piper's part in my opinion. The SportCruiser is a great aircraft in it's own right, and doesn't need the "PiperSport" name. If anything, "PiperSport" should be used for an LSA of Piper's own fresh design, but I suppose the company really isn't in a state to do that at the moment.
Cessna's 162, on the other hand is a design with some real thought behind it.
Description above "Cessna rolls out its new Pipersport LSA". Come on AVweb you know that is two different companies, RIGHT? Typical media, if it a little plane it must be a Cessna.
Gotta hand it to the builders...it's an incredibly beautiful airctraft.
