Jordan (Jerry) Ragovoy wrote a lot of good songs. Among them "time is on my side," "cry baby," "piece of my heart," 'try ( a little bid harder," "stay with me," and 'I'm gonna rock my way to heaven," for Janis Joplin, but she died before she could record it. Jerry also went under the pen name of "Norman Meade." He was born in Phila on 9/4/30. His father was a optometrist. Jerry was one of those music guys who people never heard of. R.I.P Jerry.
No they don't play oldies 50s, 60s music on the radio anymore. The generation that listened to it are fading into coffins as the music fades into dusty youtube archives. (They don't play bebop jazz on the radio anymore either. It all slips away. Someday the "radio" will stop playing Lady Gaga, too.)
One of my top 20 favorites of all time. It's one of those songs that you can't listen to just once! Great melody, great production, upbeat, and that amazing falsetto from Ricky Cordo!
There were so many great R & B records from the 1950s and 60s. I was only 3 years old in 1962, so I don't remember it's being played on the radio, but that doesn't matter: I and others who love this music have the Internet.
Listen to this and other classics over and over. Thanks very much for posting.
I was nuts about this song when I was about 10 in Lodi New JOISEY...WMCA(570khz) WABC(770khz). Barely remember Murray the K...I think he might have been on WINS(1010khz)...Murray the K and His Swinging Soiree.
Exposed to all sorts of music in the NYC radio market....
Show Tunes, Mob Hits, Top Ten, Soul...
all on AM. WCBS FM has pretty good playlist when it was Oldies format.
I'm a huge Beatles' fan OK? But this is the kind of stuff I was growing up on... along with singers like D D Sharp, Chubby Checker,Mary Wells,Bobby Lewis,Little Eva,Orlons & of course all the Doo Wop gems that were being played on AM radio's top 40. This particular song always got my attention to where I still remember all the lyrics & great, great background straight & up(you backup guys know what I mean) . LOVE this jam forever. Thanks for posting.
Great timeless song ,,,,,

What happened to those carefree times? Someone like Katie from Idol should record this ditty.

A great old track this, from a shortlived era (1959-63?) that was soon to be swept away by Beat culture and Motown.
