is that telegraph canyon? They should race on telegraph the V-max versus ninja 250R with pro riders. That would be really interesting. $5 on the 250 I'd rather have my busa or a sportster with a 1430 kit
The cool thing about a max is that 1) you can get low miles used max for $4,000-6,000. 2) Minor mods mean major gains. 3) Comfortable, even compared to tourers. 4) Hammer of the gods power on tap. 5) It LOOKS like a bike for robocop or the terminator. 6) 1/4 mile time is usually limited by wheelspin/technique, not power limitation. 7) a 2009 was just ridden by Jay Gleason in Florida. racing slick, NO internal engine mods, 9.5 seconds 1/4 @ 143mph.
I like how the statement on this video says the origanal power cruiser, kinda gotta throw bs at that, the v65 was out a few years before this one 183 for the v65 and the first vmax came out in 1985 and before the v65 there was the kz1000 so the vmax was not the first
im afraid neither of those would qualify as a power cruiser as both run with chains. It would have have a shaft or belt drive to be eligible for a powercruiser title. Its a technicality but one which yamaha has taken advantage of. Still, the Vmax is a great bike, i have the 2001 model and its a dream on the long road.
Sorry dude you are mistaken, the v65 was never produced with a chain, it was always shaft driven, I cant comment on the kz, since I have never owned one..
the kz is chain driven, I always thought that a power cruiser was a cruiser chasis with an above average amount of horse power, maybe its a maintenence thing..
Almost 2000 mi on my 09 VMax (about a month so far) and this bike is the most fun I've had on a bike by far. Some previous bikes incl CBR600, 07BuellXB12,07FZ1,09FZ6R. I love every thing about this bike. It sounds great, looks great, handles great for its size, and the engine is just awesome! Totally relaxed power, but you can unleash hell at moments notice. Shaft is great, no mess, no chain lash. No need for 6 speed either. You can fly your fav twisty and never leave 3rd gear (25-115mph).
I love V-max, but man... I don't like the headlight of the new V-max... looks like a bit V-rod. Now I think of it, Harley might copied the name V-rod from V-max. I wish new V-max had VTX look alike big long head light, then I say it looks perfect. I guess, that look is hip now eh? like B-king. I don't know what's going on in Japan.
I must say I honestly dont like it. Yeah respect where tis due. Some mental power outta it but I would much rather the old V-max.
Would never buy one meself. Sad thing is, there are gonna be some load of posers buying this bike then busting themselves up on it. Each to there own.
I know quite a few people that are very upset over this particular bike.
The answer why is because companies like Yamaha and Harley are focusing on bikes for the uneducated poser wanna-be rather then the actual enthusiast riders.
I have heard every excuse under the sun for the extra weight and unwanted driveline features. None of which are true.
You can more then bet that things will be changing, I am not the only one that is upset. This type of bike sets the entire industry backwards
a big part of biking is the freedom, i think you refer to sportsbikes and people who want to race, not all motorcycles are designed or meant to be raced, it depends what you want from a bike, thats why they dont just have zx6r's and r1's etc. not everyone cares abiut weight or power, it all depends what you want from a bike
@tomek13072 You're smoking crack. Go ride one and you'll understand. I ride both a Ducati and Harley tourer and this new V-Max could EASILY replace both of those bikes in my garage. If HD had made the V-Rod like this new V-Max, I wouldn't have sold mine.
I know quite a few people that are very upset over this particular bike. The answer why is because companies like Yamaha and Harley are focusing on bikes for the uneducated poser wanna-be rather then the actual enthusiast riders. You can more then bet that things will be changing, I am not the only one that is upset. This type of bike sets the entire industry backwards.
If I cared about naked power I'd go with the B-King. I nearly shat myself when I saw 80-90 miles per tank. Jesus God, you could never leave the city limits on this damned thing...
Eventunally Yamaha will come to understand why so many are upset. The company wants to be harley. They are producing harley clone cruisers, complete with air cooled pushrod engines. How rediculous. Rather then focus on new and better ways to improve such as shedding weight which makes the bikes cumbersome and dangerous, they instead focus on making cool looking image mobiles. Complete with high price tags to make idiots strive to own one thinking they are a baddass now. Wake up people its a lie.
I have to laugh how Yamaha is taking the focus off their name and trying to Americanize the name calling their bikes "Star" I guess they think everyone is stupid. Yamaha went after the image posers, rather then the riders. They are pushing over priced under spec bikes that will not compare to what else is out there for less money. Watch the upcomming comparison tests to see this Vmax get its ass handed to it by other less expensive bikes in every way. Handling braking and acceleration.
Yes I have. Trying to dismiss my "bassless" opinion because I haven't seen or riddin one is as off base as Yamaha making the over weight overpriced pig in the first place. I am upset because I used to own the original. I rode it for 13 years. At that time it was already outdated and Yamaha proceeded to continue production until it was so ran in the ground dealers quit ordering any. FINALLY they decide to reintroduce it again only 10+ years too late, and didn't listen to a word anyone suggested.
Too bad you're disappointed... I'm not! The 2009 VMAX, which I have 700 miles on so far is the new definition of muscle cruiser. Yamaha listened to everyone that participated in the online survey for the new VMAX. The bike handles beautifully and has more power and torque then any bike I have ever ridden.
You don't like it....OK... find something you do like and move on. Bitching about a very well thought out design and function for an amazing motorcycle accomplishes nothing productive.
I owned a 92 VMAX that I really enjoyed for what it is. A muscle cruiser that is great in a straight line, but a brick in the corners. The 2009 VMAX has more power, torque, and handling is superb.
I owned the original also, and enjoyed it for what it was as well. This new one is a joke in comparison. Sure it has more power, but handling? Haha you can't take a corner with this pig because the pegs drag! Its so damn heavy that it feels like my original with a passenger on the back! Fuel miliage is so bad that you have to plan your trips from gas station to gas station. Get used to 80 miles to a tank! Thanks Yamaha for screwing us when you can get a much better B-King for much less $
Don't feed me or anyone else this bullshit! Yamaha didn't listen to anyone. If they would have listened to us they would have heard us ask for Inverted forks, CHAIN DRIVE, 6 speed transmission, a decent fuel tank and less weight then the original not 100 lbs more yet! "its a new definition of a muscle cruiser" Yeah when it came out in 85' now its a New definition of a posermobile for the uneducated. Read the information out there folks and tell Yamaha to shove this new version!
You are the only poser! You are no VMAX enthusiast...maxi-pad rider. If you truly like the B-King, that's great enjoy it and stop you verbal flatulence.
You have issues. How much does "Star" pay you to represent and defend this bike? You have no answers to my postings, you can just spew this crap. The points I have made with this bike are nothing but truthful and sometimes the truth hurts. Its time we stand up to these big companies and demand they make better products rather then buying blindly because of the name on the side of it. This blind loyalty is exactly what these companies want, stupid and blind shell out your cash for an image.
No its not a cruiser at all. The fuel tank is too small to go anywhere, the seat is like the old version, humped rather then flat so that hurts your ass. And the 5 speed makes it to twichy at road speeds to be comfortable in any way shape or form. You want a decent cruiser get an M109 and you have decent power and comfort too. Yamaha tried to make a cool lookin power bike, too bad its too heavy and behind times to compare to the others out there that are cheaper too yet. What a bummer Yamaha
Yamaha designers should be danglin from a rope for this one! Friggin idiots! Heavy as a pig, shaft drive AGAIN, too small of a fuel tank, wrong size tires, no inverted forks??!! Get the hell out of here with the price tag!
What the hell is Yamaha thinking to make such a pig with composites and titanium available? For that price it should be 175lbs lighter and have everything the B-King does and then some! I'd personally like to put my boot up the ass of who designed this bike!
ill either buy a 09 raider s or the 09 vmax ill have to ride both. to totaly different bikes, but made by yamaha.cant wait for the vmax to hit the dealership floor.
truely is a nice bike for its class. would love to have one but still paying on my bike. and whats up with all these guys arguing down there. hey ..hey ..you guys down there take it to the track
Kind of like comparing a Lotus to a Vette eh? Hayabusas are fairly smooth, almost like a sewing machine lol. The Vmax is like the opposite, a little less refined, but serves one purpose, to be a badass muscle-bike.
Yes,YES,The v max, is a sport cruiser, and the Busa & the zx14 are super sport, you can't compare a corvette with a trasnport truck, you are right there is no comperes. please drive safe.
I have an anniversary edition VMax and I didn't order one of these. I'm beginning to wish I had. Maybe I'll wait two more years and then buy a 2010 model. This bike is going to blow everyone and everything away--at least in the quarter mile.
The guy just said these bikes will retail for about $17,000 which is a damn sight less than 16K pounds. And you obviously don't know much about the price of foreclosed homes.
News Flash not every country in the world uses U.S. Dollars, and not every product is priced the same as they are in the U.S., nor is taxation a standard rate the world over.
In the U.K. the new V-Max costs £16,000, irrespective if the road tester says they will cost $17,000 in the U.S. Gasoline costs SIX POUNDS A GALLON here. That's about $11 a gallon. Think YOU'RE having a tough time, try living over here pal.
Re foreclosed homes, give it time, give it time...
Well, you have something to show for your high taxation in the form of socialized medicine. We have to pay for our own health care and are still taxed to the gills. What do we have to show for it besides the Iraq war and a $700 billion dollar bailout scheme? Who do you think pays for that? How much aid can we expect from the rest of the world now that it's our turn? Yeah right.
Well, your government allowed the financial fraud to happen, in fact encouraged it (under Bush and Greenspan). Your choices are: out of control inflation (wiping out savings, pensions and lowering middle class standards of living) or an economic Depression (wiping out savings, pensions, jobs and standard of living for all but the very rich).
Sucks to be you! But then, you did vote that CUNT Bush in, twice, and invade Iraq and Afgan illegally, and are threatening the same for Iran. Payback time.
Also, it's not about taxation. The reason consumer goods are so cheap in the U.S. is Petrodollar Recycling (started by Kissinger). All other countries need Dollars to buy oil, so they sell as much as possible to the U.S. in return for Dollars, often at below cost price. Iraq started selling oil in EURO's and got invaded for it. Iran started selling in EURO's in May 2008 and is threatened with invasion. Russia started this week. See where this is heading? Your government wants WAR. Scary times...
Finally, while I'm giving you a lesson in geo-politics and financial warfare, the rejection of the Bailout Bill caused $1.2 TRILLION to be wiped off the stock market on Monday. Miraculously, it bounced back. WHO do you think profitted from that? The reason Rupublicans voted against it was to ensure their fuck-buddies on Wall Street were able to pull off the biggest market short in history and swipe more from the American people than the $700b itself. They are pure fucking evil, believe.
I had a response but then I remembered that this started with a comment on the Yamaha V-Max and I realized it wasn't worth going into. I said I was sorry if I ruffled your feathers (Obviously I did based on this rant). Take a pill, hit the pub, down a few.
I don't like how this bike sounds with the stock exhaust at all. It looks like a friggin beast but sounds like a little crotch rocket. Don't get me wrong I love the sound of a screaming I4 (I ride a 600RR), but only when it's appropriate to the bike. This bike should sound beefier than it does even without an aftermarket pipe IMO
Wait until you hear it in person. Most mics can't content with it when the bike starts screaming its loud V8-type bark. You have to hear it in person on the street or while you ride it. This is by far the best sounding stock exhaust I have heard...
is there any bike these guys don't think it's perfect. I mean..they only talk about the good things of the bike...I'm pretty sure this bike is not 100% perfect....I think they're getting paid
Not a cruiser, it's a standard like the Triumph Tiger or Suzuki B-King... mid mount controls on a cruiser aren't bent back like that, great motorcycle, definitely not a cruiser though.
so yea, the ducati diavel just shits on this thing...

Hey you ever wonder why Yamaha plastered "Vmax" on the side of their snowmobile? Did they use V4 engines? Hmmm kinda strange huh.....
You ever stop to think that they are trying to use up a name that once stood for innovative and advanced? Too bad it doesn't work anymore as we
know that is no longer true.
What a bummer that companies have to pull shit like that. We are not all blind loyal.

In the U.K. they cost £16,000. That's POUNDS. So, about the price of 5 foreclosed homes in Ohio. A lot of money for a motorcycle...

Take a pill, hit the pub, down a few.

yamaha should build a sport bike with this motor to compete against the hayabusa and the zx-14, awesome bike!!!

I don't like how this bike sounds with the stock exhaust at all. It looks like a friggin beast but sounds like a little crotch rocket. Don't get me wrong I love the sound of a screaming I4 (I ride a 600RR), but only when it's appropriate to the bike. This bike should sound beefier than it does even without an aftermarket pipe IMO

okay.. in low rpm it's not bad

Wait until you hear it in person. Most mics can't content with it when the bike starts screaming its loud V8-type bark. You have to hear it in person on the street or while you ride it. This is by far the best sounding stock exhaust I have heard...

Not a cruiser, it's a standard like the Triumph Tiger or Suzuki B-King... mid mount controls on a cruiser aren't bent back like that, great motorcycle, definitely not a cruiser though.
