im sorry but this is total shit. i could do better and i dont even pay bass. im a drummer and im in my citys jazz band. the bass part was nothing like this. keep playing tho and you may get better
Exsacly! I cant understand it lol... I think everyone should learn Motown songs by ear... that teaches you wher all the notes are what u can hear. also like jaco said learn as many melodys as poss. when u can scat ur awsomE
i have always been too afraid to post this comment for myself. tabs are an easy cheat, a quick fix, but in the long run they damage your ability to play by ear. you're cool.
a very good attempt, I could never come close to what you did, it was very impressive to listen to. I thought the intro was quite decent, been tryign to pick this on a 6 string guitar for fun.
I took the frets out of my bass. Its real easy. Just get pliers and pull them out. Fill the holes in with putty "push hard" get a sanding block and then put an oil finish on it.
it was great, but the angle could have been better. i mostly saw the side of ur hand and ur cable. u shudve done all of jacos parts including the vocals.
Man screw the sheet music. Just know the parts, which you already do, and play it with feel. Nobody wants to hear a replica. And watch the timing. Nice job 3 stars.
Well , i'm sorry for my mistakes. You're right, i don't play this song from the sheet music, actually i don't own it.But i'm pretty interessed for the MIDI file actually; i played it from a guitar-pro transcription, maybe that's why i play wrong notes (at which moment, please?)
The first two time you play the intro riff with false harmonics playing the first octave of the B on the 3rd fret on G-string and so on. The 3rd and 4th time you play the intro with false harmonics on the first octave of the B in on the 15th fret.
And that's what is actually done in this video. Nice job! Timing of this song is very tricky.
also i think is it not playd an octave higher the 2:13 so like c on the g string to a on the g string n then e on the d string to D on the a string or whats easyest
man thats actually pretty good, but you just have to try to be a bit more smooth but othere than that everything is good and you harmonics sound great keep it up

what settings on ur bass and amp did u use? those harmonics sound great!
i can play them ok, but they don't sound as good
DirectorDude1194 2 years ago
Well, it's just a basic EQ shaped like this : ^ (the peak is on the med freqs) and using only the bridge pickup :)

Why does everyone always ask for TAB? If you want to become better, ESPECIALLY at bass, you need to use your ear. Listen to it and figure it out.

i use both and sheet music

Nice job on it, not too good in the finger style and in the solo...

can u send me the tab to this
BIgGuidojoe 3 years ago
Where did you get this tab from? I can't seem to find a perfect one. Learning it at the moment while I wait for my fretless jazz too be delivered!

This is a pretty old vid... i don't play it this way anymore ;) i'll maybe make another version if i have enough time :)
Alex156 3 years ago
Cool. If you could tab it by any chance, that would be great. All the tabs on the internet don't have all the little 'Jacoisms' in them :P

He has a fretless and he does a vibrato
dbassboy94 3 years ago
Jaco played a 63 jazz that he pulled the frets out of. Good job.
dimebag983 4 years ago
Jaco had 2 basses, a fretted and a fretless
he used the fretted on the recording, the pinch harmonics are diff. on a fretless

It's not jaco's band fool

alecbass1 4 years ago
For less than 2years, atm. But i couldn't "train" hard since a year, bc of the university...
Alex156 4 years ago
love it!
birdland is such a great song and you've done really well
all i'd say would be for you to be careful not to rush around 2:50, I know it's difficult though...
gemster911 4 years ago
i think jaco played it on a fender jazz fretted. also in a video here on youtube he's playing a fretted
groovyw53 4 years ago
he played a 63' fender jazz but he took the frets out

Nice work on this. Don't mind the haters, I'm pretty sure that none of them is Jaco anyway. Thanks for posting this up!

I'll do my best to correct that for the next videos then.
to drfib:
I didn't completely understand what you meant about my playing.I had a lack of feel while playing this song, you meant?
Don't forget too, it's why i always write 'my attempt to', because i don't pretend to play as good as the artists when i make covers like this one.
