Vai and Satriani should get away form those thin sounding ibanezes. They (the guitars) sound good with distortion where you can't hear their tone(or lack of), but not so much with plain overdrive or clean.  I know it wouldn't look right, but they would sound amazing with a PRS or Les Paul.
