@HomoVerticalis No, this is incorrect. The song is about a boat. John's father got a boat just before John's grandfather died. John's father treated this boat as his own son.

But you know, John was a kid and he enjoyed surfing behind the boat and the only thing he had to do to loan the boat was to promise he wouldnt let his sister drive it. But as he was young and excited - he did. And the boat sank. In just a couple of minute.
