Janan Sathiendran lacks in ‘beauty of tone’ but makes up with his most magically intuitive and natural sense of rhythm! Below-average performance by Dr. Das
Thank you so much. Everything is so wonderful, but one thing is missing. A real Tanpura in the mix would have created harmonics -- Swayambhoo svaras-- that would have added more magic to this magical combination of singing and sitar. Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur guruji reminded us some time ago that without sitting under the Bodhi tree of the Tanpura, no one can attain musical enlightenment. Please get at least one Tanpura player to present with you next time. All the best!!
A rather poor performance by Debpriya. Before someone jumps in to attack me let me say that she is a phenomenal singer. She didn't sing this one very well, probably becos there was no proper rhythm backing and also probably because she had to play the solos. She also sounded strained.
@saqib09, a fair comment. Sitars are tuned to a much higher pitch ('D') than most female vocals are comfortable at (B flat, on average), hence the strained vocals and pitchiness in parts. Plus this song needs a lot more orchestration to give the right feel, but we decided to give it a go anyway, because we love the song! Thanks for your opinion.
Are you Debpriya? :D wow.. I'm honoured!! I am a big fan. :D
I also felt you sometimes lack depth when singing in lower register and sound a little flat. I think that has to do with singing live. Just my opinion though. But love your singing.
Could this be she is doing too much at the same time - playing sitar, singing, and guiding the young tabla player, all at the same time? But then again, our expectations are also very high from her. Just a thought.
this was truly a fantastic performance. it is very hard to sing and play sitar so hats off to dr debpriya and janan was truly awesome on tabla....almost as good as the original song. grt job janan. keep it up!
Very good. Keep up the good work. See if you can sing some original compositions, it'll work better for you. God bless you.
