I may be wrong but it seems to me that Wossy was the first BBC chat host to break away from the polite, deferential mold (pun intended) of their most successful presenters. Brilliant strategy because it immediately set him apart and provided an alternative for an audience that appreciated a bit of cheek, à la Janice Dickinson.
