The 3-4-2-1 sequence orginated during WWII when engines did not have fire extinguishers so a guy with a fire extinguisher would stand beside each engine in case of fire. To protect this guy from getting wacked by a propeller they would start inboard engines first so he didn't have his back to an active propeller. Once #3 (inboard, right wing) was up & running he would step back to #4. Then on to the left wing, starting #2 (inboard) with the same procedure; #2 started, #1 started.
The guy calling in for the reservation should have made sure to tell the woman he wanted a booking on ANY flight that didn't include a sight seeing "go around" the Grand Canyon, eh!! Those Grand Canyon interludes, in the 1950's, were risky at best!

At around 2:58, the piolit on the right of the screen looks a little like Richard Nixon in his younger years, lol!
