  • I'm not religious but I heard this amazing quote from Constantine the Great's main right hand man:

"God forgives those who ask for it"

    How true is that!

  • Love this 3

  • I'd like to use this for my Priest Quorum lesson tomorrow. I think it'll be a powerful video that will emphasize the miracle of forgiveness.

  • Eddfdfd!!!

  • Thank you for sharing this beautiful story and a very timely reminder. Forgiveness is so freeing.

  • And wow, I commented like, 5 seconds into the vid. I just now got to the picture of the school house. Honestly, that's within a 10 minute walk of my house. I grew up with that schoolhouse being there. Now, you can't even tell that it ever existed; it's just a field. The only thing that remains is a tiny bit of the driveway. For years, people from every part of the nation would bring flowers such as a tribute. It's remarkable that their amazing story of forgiveness was able to reach so many.

  • I feel so blessed to have grown up immersed in the Amish community. I'm not amish, but the victims of the Nickle Mine school shooting are practically my neighbors. It was such a humbling, awe inspiring message and I feel so blessed be taught a lesson in forgiveness from these amazing people.

  • Wow....how touching and mind opening! I think there are not many that can say they hold no grudges, that they have forgiven all of everything...Makes you re-think things!

  • Lingering hatred and seeking retribution is like throwing gasoline on fire. Forgiveness is the clear water that quells our ills.

  • Why the continuation of 911 tears us apart, we will never heal as a nation. It's all about Reconciliation, Forgiveness and all we extend to other nations is our power of military force and harming our own further. Any Organised Religious leader who claimed righteousness in our wars was flat out wrong, and I pray to the Lord the that all Americans will come to recognize the deception being done in their name.

  • I would love to know what artist did the painting of Christ with the white robes and white background. its beautiful.

  • @cuninghamclan it could be one of Greg Olsen's if you google Greg Olsen paintings you might find it. Good luck :)

  • Novello I really feel sorry for you

  • I have always been in awe of the Amish and the Mennonites. They are simplistic in their ways of life, but have riches that no money or jewel on earth can provide. A devotion to family, a determination to better the community, and a passion to uplift, build and support their fellow man regardless of the trivial skin colour, religious beliefs, creed, etc. Their way of life shows that the material is immaterial, I am in awe.

  • My father screwed my family over unwillingly, but yet I had the confidence to forgive him. Thank you very much for th eupload.

  • The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”

They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind

to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God

    Psalm 14 :1-2

  • I am PROUD to be an ATHEIST and NIHILIST (that means I respect absolutely nothing except mathematical and logistical modelling, and free speech, even if its for worthless dumb ideas, but MUCH MORE SO if the ideas have not already been heard endlessly throughout history).

NOBODY can preach that "other people are not responsible for your happiness or unhappiness" and then say ANYTHING bad about people held hostage in prison (doesn't matter at ALL if they are a "criminal" or "convict").

  • (you = general you, not just SethAdamSmith)

We can yap about forgiveness all day, but it is absolute BULLSHIT because you don't really mean it until you LET EVERY SINGLE PRISONER IN THE WORLD OUT OF PRISON - NO EXCEPTIONS!

There is nothing noble or admirable about human law or "upholding the law for its own sake".

There are only utility functions that need to be and should be maximized. That's IT.

  • Forgiveness has cause me much pain and sorry.

But it's never too late to forgive and restore relationships.

  • No moral dilemma whatsoever, only heartfelt gratitude to the eternal Son of God who would love sinners so much that He would suffer the punishment THEY deserve so the eternal God the Father could forgive them so they can be with Him for all time. The Bible says ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. How AMAZING that GOD made the way for us to be with Him through the astounding sacrifice of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth who rose from the dead and is alive forever!

  • ONLY Jesus of Nazareth the ETERNAL son of the ETERNAL God who made heaven and earth can forgive! We can only forgive if He has forgiven us. JESUS suffered the just and terrible wrath of God on OUR sins that He was carrying in His innocent body on the Cross. So WE broke God's Law, but JESUS PAID for our crimes, and thus we are declared innocent, forgiven, and thus we are able to forgive those who trespass against us. Nothing can hurt me the way I hurt Jesus, YET He forgave me. So I MUST forgive!

  • @Sunnyrabbit777 "JESUS suffered the just and terrible wrath of God on OUR sins"

you dont see a moral dilemma with that?

  • I just forgave my greatest enemy today, the person who screwed me up so badly. I'm honestly really scared and nervous at the thought of it. But i'm glad I did. Thank you for posting this video :) It gave me the courage to stay strong.

  • The Amish practice of shunning essentially translates into an entire community pretending that a single troublesome person does not exist—they don't talk to the person, don't look at them and won't acknowledge them in any way. In psychology its called the Silent Treatment and is a form of abuse. In fact, it can be actually worse than physically beating someone.

  • Although I know that this is a touching video, I cannot help but think about the fact that recently on television I watched an entire documentary about how the Amish SHUN people who are Amish but who do anything against their beliefs. This shunning causes much misery and suffering to others. So ... forgiveness?

  • I don't see sixteen Dislikes;

Instead, I see sixteen opportunities to practice Forgiveness.

  • "To err, is human;

    to forgive, Divine."

I too, am sorry for you loss.

  • To forgive is the most powerful things to do. I AM SORRY... I LOVE YOU ... I FORGIVE YOU ... WE ARE ONE ... I AM xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • further proof mormons are not christians. Christians forgive, mormons do not.

  • @rbcurtis801

I haven't a clue how you came to that conclusion listening to this man, a Mormon Prophet, and this message.

  • @theovermindliveth

I'll tell you how I came to that conclusion. I offended my brother 19 years ago. He, since a mormon bishop, and his wife, currently a relief society president, refuse to forgive me, and to this day, continue to punish my wife and children, and hold my actions against them. Interesting that Pres. Faust had to turn to the Amish community to find his example of forgiveness. Could he not find it within his on faith?

  • Respond to this video... Nevertheless I forgive you for that.

  • this is hard i struggle big time not easy when a pastor holds a gun to your head screaming scriptures in your face raping you and you walk home yelling and cryin for cars to stop they look at you like you murdered someone driving on then tryin to tell local pastors and churches no one cares and believes so it takes a pyscologist of the world to take you to court and find out the pastor admitted to 21girls in his own office still no one cares gonna take me long time people just dont know

  • I love this!

  • I live among the Lancaster County Amish, I work with Amish people. They Re neither saints nor sinners, they are wonderful, forgiving people. Some of the little girls are still recovering, some are well again. It's hard to forgive something like this, I admire them.

  • Thanks for this video. It touched my soul in a beautiful way!

  • I'm touched....

  • 15 people doesn't know how to forgive :(

  • I urge each one of you to study for yourselves in order to determine what is true and what is not. The God of the Bible is not a schizophrenic liar, nor a monster. I know Him. He has changed my life: because He IS Love. Yes, I have experienced Him, and I can say that He IS who the Bible REALLY says He is.

  • Read Jude verse 7, it says that Sodom and Gomorrha suffered the vengeance of eternal fire. Are those cities still burning today? No. As a matter of fact those cities are a pile of rubbish that archeologists have found. The RESULT of the fire is what is eternal. The punishment is eternal because there is no possibility of reversing it.

  • Verse 3 says that they will be ashes under the soles of our feet. Psalm 37:20 says that they will consume away like the fat of lambs. If the wicked were tortured in hell forever, they would not ever end up as ashes. Have you ever burned fat in a fire? Does it consume away quickly? Hmmm. You may have heard people speak of eternal punishment in connection with hell, what about that?

  • I can understand the perspective of those who resent Christianity due to the doctrine of an eternal burning hell. The truth is, the Bible does not teach this doctrine; it is rather a misconception. God is Love. Justice is an attribute of love. Because of justice, God punishes wicked people. But Love does not torture people. The Bible states in Malachi 4:1 that the wicked will be BURNED UP.

  • For those who gave thumbs down to this, I pity u. U seem to be beyond being touched...

  • Forgiveness...

  • uuuuh..don't cry gran pa...this is such a wonderful story..thanks for share this , GBU

  • It is abit like living in an ashram moving away from the stimulation of modern life. Forgiveness the biggest healer. When there is space in our bodies and mind we can rise above these powerful emotions and start to see a healing light.. Our those are with those who suffered.

  • It is abit like living in an ashram moving away from the stimulation of modern life. Forgiveness the biggest healer.

  • i dont forgive the milkman. I wish he was alive, so he could be taken to court and justice be dealt to him. Not for vengeance, but for justice

I do not love my enemies, I can forgive if they accept their crimes, and redeem themselves via wallowing in prison, or doing something to try and make up for it.

This is a tragedy, and I hope the Amish community got through this. Of course the family of the milkman should have been comforted as well, as it would have been awful for them also.

  • @markgg1 You obviously have no concept of the message given in this video. "you can forgive if they accept their crimes and redeem themselves via wallowing in prison." This is not forgiveness. This is conditional and true forgiveness is not conditional. The true love of Christ forgives uncoditionally. "for if ye do not forgive men of their tresspasses, neither will the Lord forgive your trespasses. Sorry you are full of bitterness. I hope you understand and find the true meaning of the message.

  • @notopher I am not full of bitterness I'm upset by the concept of a loving god who sends people to hell. I could never worship this god, even if he proved his existence. I am glad that it appears this monster does not exist.

In other parts of my life I am infact very nice... you might even like me. I just resent this christian notion of forgiveness, when the bible clearly states that non believers (me being one) are going to be punished for eternity for a mere way I thought.

  • @notopher Forgiveness is a beautiful thing, don't get me wrong. I just dont want it to be hijacked by religion as if it is given to us by god.Forgiveness is a human invention, and is part of what makes us special.

But I also believe in justice. Its sad the milkman never got to face up to it. I can forgive someone if they face justice, and if they accept their crime then I will forgive

The milkman was a coward for killing himself. He has not accepted his crime, so I cannot forgive him.

  • It doesn't matter what your faith is. This is beautiful, and has TRUE Christian values. It does not preach hatred and bigotry like so many unfortunate "Christian" churches. This is something beautiful that even an atheist like me can appreciate.

  • i love his wonderful post messages

  • Cry, good people, cry, for it cleanses the soul.

    -

The Lord has asked us to do the ultimate deed, the crown of all that we can be, what might be the hardest thing we could ever do... to forgive, and love your enemy.

  • forgiveness.............why is it so hard?

  • @porkdumpling83 It's harder than revenge. That sums it up for me.

  • 15 people still haven't forgiven do hope they went as miss click,as for leading by example do forgive them :)

  • thank u so much for posting this MAY THE LORD BLESS AND KEEP U AND HAVE MERCY ON US ALL. in all bad things. we are the LORD OUR GODS CHILDREN. THANK U. SO MUCH

  • hi, I am from Indonesia.

  • This was beautiful. I also think everyone who likes this will like Desmond Tutu.

  • i do

  • thanks for sharing !!! great

  • Forgiveness is the greatest gift to fight the battle against evil. You never know who's hearts might change when they see the power of forgiveness.

  • I have a photo of my 3 kids in a wheelbarrow, three under 3. I could not even begin to imagine the sense of loss their parents must and STILL do feel. But I can well sense the rage within me I feel towards anyone who would even think of separating them from me. God bless these people and especially the parents.

  • This has got to be the most beautiful video on the internet, thank you so much for posting this! God Bless!

  • Thank you.

  • Beautiful

  • always we have forgive others.

  • Dear SethAdamSmith, Thank you for posting this beautiful gift.

  • Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule. To understand everything is to forgive everything. ~The Buddha

  • @ccyangable I cannot imagine that these words are anything but true. Let us live them.

  • this old man is right on!! and we as a human race need to Forgive if not for the others that have offended us than for ourselves! what a touching and humble people!

  • Anger is a human emotion that EVERYBODY has. If you take pride on not feeling it, then too bad, because bottling up emotions inside is unhealthy. In my opinion the amish people were partially to blame for not realizing what storm is brewing inside of that milkman.

  • this is so sad i hate seeing old people cry

  • @amaprana what a disgusting comment based on total ignorance. Do you any idea how they live? I have a friend who is a doctor and he did some of his training in Iowa in the Amana communities. Everyone he knew who went through that place were all changed in some way by their exposure to these people and their quiet dignity. Being in a medical center, he often saw them in the midst of tragedy or hopeless situations.

You are an ignorant and foolish person. You need to walk in their shoes.

  • This is amazing thank you very much..I used to be filled with so much hate and anger growing up feeling that ''the world was against me'' and that i had been done ''wrong'' but then i see people that have it much worse and realise we are all tested by god...only through faith in Jesus Christ can you truely be at peace with yourself! (not saying anything against atheists just my own personal journey towards inner peace)

  • @MrNYCATL I felt that way too growing up and was asleep for many years. I came to Christ a few weeks ago and now I see what true love and forgiveness is about. I hated God and was against His will because I thought I could do better and followed the will of man, but coming for Him healed me more than any "good day here on Earth" would ever. You must realize that atheists (as well as people from other beliefs, as I was heavily into the New Age movement) don't truly understand God and the Bible

  • This is a fantastic video..thank u so much for sharing!

  • I loved the video..thank you

  • I have been praying for strength, wisdom and the will to forgive. It's been most difficult when I've thought of the many different perpetrators I'd suffered at the hands of & I still have flashbacks which seem neverending. I know forgiveness will be the only way I can truly find peace within and I know it will take time. I see the divine and precious peace one can find if only they can let go and be free of the pain. I have had a glimpse of hope now, thanks to you.

  • heart touching video

  • As one of the first responders to the Amish School Shooting at Nickel Mines PA, that day is one that I will never forget for the rest of my life. My mind will find peace from those memories only on the day that God calls me home. This video brought me to shed some much needed tears that I'd been holding back. Forgiveness is something that I do everyday when I see those images again in my mind, and forgiveness is a powerful healing tool. Thank you for the video and thank you James Faust.

  • This is one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL TOUCHING videos I have ever seen! THANKS for sharing it. It touched my Heart and spoke volumes to me.

  • Many thanks, I hope that people would understand ....

  • Thank you.

  • What a beautiful and touching message!

  • God Bless You (I am deeply moved and the tears overwhelming) the power I feel from hearing this is so deep

  • if you go on lifetime.com search amish grace it is bbased on this.its bringing me to tears.

  • beautiful...

  • This was inspiring. Thank you for posting this.

  • Even as an atheist I have to spread this video. We have all forgotten the power and value of forgiveness.

  • @lolwuthomes Thank you for posting. I'm not an atheist, but I often forget the power and value of forgiveness. Many people have offended me because I'm not like them : no, I'm not black or Muslim or anything that should usually trigger hostility. I'm a tall blond Christian model, and my ex in laws could not stand me for that, not for the fact that I was a Christian, but for the fact that I was a model. It's amazing how people can pick and chose those they accept and those they reject.

  • love thy neighbor as you love yourself = Equality

do unto another as you would have them do unto = Equality

Equality implies there is no one and nothing 'more than' or 'greater than' and thus we are all Equal As God

Stand up for Life and do what is Best for All

Self Forgiveness is the way to exist without fear and become an effective being that

supports Life and acts in Self Honesty

  • Whatever you believe... this is beautiful and will change your day....

  • There is a group of people who get to see God.

    I am humbled beyond words.

  • thanks so much for posting!

  • Amen!

  • I am sorry, but how can this man--or anyone else, for that matter--know what the Amish survivors of that tragedy are thinking privately. Yes, they made a public statement of forgiveness. But how can at least some of them not be angry? I think to suggest they aren;t is almost ot infantilize them. You, we are told, they are just simple, so they can forgive. I bet there's plenty of Amish people who are still angry about this, at least deep inside.

  • @fileboy2002 That is a cruel thing to say. Read what Jesus said as he hung upon the cross .. "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." It is the basis of the Christian religion and it is so very sad that so many people who call themselves Christians don't truly understand what Jesus was teaching about the Christ.

  • @worldpeaz It is not cruel. You know what's cruel? Denying people the right to express their true feelings after a tragedy. I try to imagine myself living in a community like the Amish, a community that would insist I make a public display of forgiveness for a man who murder my child. That is cruelty.

  • @fileboy2002 I understand what you're saying and where you're coming from, but perhaps you do not understand the importance of forgiveness and the beliefs of the Amish people. What is cruel to some is not to others - it is necessary. We can liken that to the belief that Muslim women are suppressed because they wear hijab or burqas .. if you do a little searching, you will find that in most cases it is their choice. We cannot relate our beliefs to others. Forgiveness heals.

  • @fileboy2002 forgiveness dose not mean no anger. it means allowing love to over power the anger. allowing yourself to accept and move past. to grow from you pain. what that man did was horrible. the amish just decided not dwell on it and let it over power there lives but to instead focus on the what was happening now. if youe heart is filled with anger where will the love go

  • I forgive the Mormons for spending $50 million to defeat Gay marriage in California. I forgive the Mormons for not accepting Gay Mormons.

  • @rickbangkok I am assuming you don't really mean what you say otherwise you would not have posted those comments on this thread. I do not think for one moment you know what forgiveness is.

  • @novarone72 you can assume anything you want. I stand by my comments.

  • @rickbangkok you stand by what comments? That you forgive Mormons? I don't think so.

  • With forgiveness comes change. CHILDREN ARE STILL DIES HORRIBLE DEATHS !

  • religions talking about forgiveness, lol.

    /watch?v=vKgDDglSq2s

  • I have this saved under favorites and when ever I feel resentful, or hurt or angry I listen to this and remember God's grace and his forgivenss as we forgive. And to think in VA they have placed a statue of that communist that murdered over 60 million Christians in Russia. It now sits in our country as a warning as to what is to come. Will we be able to forgive when they start murdering our citizens? I hope never to know.

  • I had tears in my eyes and tingles up my spine as I listened to this. That milkman, who had killed 5 girls and wounded the 5 others, and yet, they forgave him.

This is truly God's real will. What he wants all of us to do.

  • This is truly a heart wrenching and heart warming story. HOWEVER..., it shouldn't be overlooked that it was religion that started and perpetuated this and MOST acts of violence! Can't we move beyond bronze age stories and races? And come to the conclusion that we are the HUMAN race?

  • i love that man! his stories are always so touching. God is mindful of all his children even at the time when it may not feel like it

  • google Doe's Account. mindblowing.

  • self hating whites - go live in africa to live - you losers

  • Christ's boundless capacity for mercy and his utter devotion to forgiveness, on appropriate terms consistent with eternal law, are the greatest of his godly attributes.

  • Well, it's lovely to forgive, but i don't agree with homophobic religion. They're far from being saints.

  • The movie that was on a few days ago about the Amish was a great movie.

I cried so much during that movie

  • it is sad that this hapend but still even better is that they forgave him that,s true love

  • It's important to mention that forgiving does not equal forgetting. A memory does not go away, but it can subside once you allow it to surface, acknowledge the hurt and embrace it. Forgiving also does not mean you have to continue a relationship with the perpetrator. This is especially true if the person does not accept responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Forgiveness should be for benefit of the perpetrator and victim, but more importantly for freeing your own mind.

  • The message is clear and very true I had sttruggled with forgiveness and have accepted it is what GOD wants us all to do I have experienced peace from this

Thank you for this video How uplifting and touching this is

    God Bless you

  • @lombmusc07 - I am actualy sobbing as I am listening to this -I remember this tradgedy so well. Forgiveness - some see it as a sign of Weakness - nothing could be further from the truth. Strong, Courageous and Spiritualy Intelligent. The death of a child is unimagineable to me, these people make me feel humbled and ashamed, if they can offer love and forgiveness, then we should all strive to do the same. Hatred and Anger are cancerous to the soul. Wonderful Post.

  • @rockchick80s, I can remember driving my car past the Amish in their buggies and seeing the young people sleeping on the road as the horse takes them home. But I remember those children (young girls) who were killed too and the response and remember thinking how amazing those people are.

  • @rockchick80s forgiveness takes a very large person!

  • @rockchick80s me too what an example of forgiveness

  • @rockchick80s THANK U JESUS A WE FORGIVE THOSE MAY THE GLORY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST BLESS EVERYONE

  • SethAdamSmith, I can't thank you enough for posting this. I am on a difficult journey of dealing with the effects of the wrong which was done to me, at the same time as with my whole heart not wanting to do the same wrongs myself. There is much sorrow there, but also understanding, love and peace. This really helped. He tells of his longing for the peace and humanity brought about by forgiveness with such strength, dignity and grace. A treasure for my life.

  • I wonder- If by a miracle we may as a people, nay a race live on though not the centuries but for the millennia to come. Shall the wonder of forgiveness, understanding, and cognition of thy neighbor soon overpower the primalistic natures hardwired into the human brain? will we soon become a race that is born from empathy, will the plagued minds find their clarity and become accepting of the existence they have been granting? One can only hope, but we shall we.

  • What a powerful story of forgiveness...

  • Blessings

  • An encouraging message about forgiveness. Father God. I pray that help me to forgive them and myself too!!!

  • Your video, "Forgiveness, the Greatest gift," gave me perspective and hope on a day when I needed it. Thanks for brightening my day and pointing me toward Christ. I'll be praying for you.

    God bless ^^

  • Seth, I tried emailing you but I'm blocked because we aren't friends... I'd really like to share your video with my

RS lesson tomorrow with your permission. Please let me know if there is somewhere I could download it online so that I could put it on a disc to use with the library tv. Thank you so much for this video. It is flawless.

  • WOW that video was extremly touching it brought joy and tears to my eyes, thats true love

  • forgiveness honestly is the greatest gift anyone can give

  • Thank you for posting this Seth. I think the biggest hypocrisy in Christian is that of people who profess Christ and the atonement and how grateful they are for the blood of Christ but harshly judge others...I believe the hardest commandment is to "love your enemies" and to fogive others...

  • If only we could forgive all of the petty stuff so easily. Yet, so many hold on to arguments, disagreements, misunderstandings as if one killed our loved ones. If only we would forgive like these graceful, loving people than I do believe the majority of all hatered, angery and bitterness would cease and that would be such a wonderful place to live. God help us to be so Christ like and help us to forgive all things done to us! In Jesus Name. Amen!

  • Some people have had a conversation with the Savior. Those I know of had great suffering to endure in this life.

Forgiveness and Repentance are gifts he gives us to feel his love and share that gift with others. We may obtain a small touch of his perfect love through forgiveness.

  • Great message. I feel like being a better person after listening to it.

  • Forgive my clicking on the wrong buttons. I don't know how to change it.

  • You said that christianity is a relationship?! I don't want a "relationship" w/ someone whom I never see! Never have a back and forth conversation with! Who, when I am emotionally hurting and in pain and crying out for guidance offered me nothing but a 2000 year old book and people who kept quoting it! But gave me no comfort! No reassurance! No shoulder to cry on! If he wants a devout follwer who loves him.., all he has to do is talk to me or show his face! I'll bet it don't happen?!!

  • it is not outside to be found,it is all inside

try to accept your feelings of anger and pain and know it will go away

we all need to be patient and have faith, trusting the Unseen is real

I hope you can find the good things in life even if it is just a smile or the sound of a bird

    never loose faith

    may peace be with you

  • The biggest anger I have is that I had fallen for "the story" for too many years! I don't blame my parents for I know they were just passing along what they'd been sold. My pain is seeing all of these people being duped that thier time would be better spent off talking to someone who will NEVER "speak" back! Nor, answer a REAL prayer! Nor,give you his/her shoulder to cry on! When the time would be better spent building a caring relationship w/ the ones you in contact w/and CAN possibly help you!

  • @crazy4carolyn

WE CHEER YOU ON FOR YOUR EFFORT IN PERSUING FORGIVENESS. AND WE SALUTE YOU FOR YOUR STRENGHT IN ALL THIS.

  • Thank you very kindly for your loving and sweet message. I was a little bit angry the days I wrote some of the comments (although I did mean them!) and hope that I didn't offend anyone. Again, Thank you and best wishes!

  • Its true, there is only one community that truly and wholly exemplifies the teachings of Jesus Christ as do the Amish. God Bless them.

  • can you traslate it to spanish? , pleace¡¡

  • Let's all go back to the Dark Ages !

  • Forgivness, yes. Religion, no! It's only an unneeded crutch.
