Dear HTWW. If someone gets cancer and needs to get treatment or will die, but has no health insurance because that person is really, really, really lazy. Do you think that person should recieve treatment for the cancer anyway or do you think that that person shouldn't get treatment and die?

I think I have the right to really tell people what the speech was about. Seeing as how I saw it in a public school. It said that we should all stay in school, don't do drugs, and go to collage. It was actually more boring than most of his speeches, but there was nothing indoctrinating or "stalinist" about it. There was absolutely no reason for people to take their kids out of school that day. That is probably why no one took their kids out of school that day.

I'd much rather students be able to write concise letter advising the current president on how to improve his performance rather than a mechanical, robotic exercise of "getting good grades" or "getting into college". Being able to write such a letter indicates they would know their subject beyond memorization.

However "Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president is not objectionable either. But then, when I was a child most of us, regardless of our political affiliation were on the same side.

Two things about the Oregon Petition:
1) The wording of the petition - AGW does NOT mean "catastrophic heating".
2) Qualifications of the signers - A bachelors degree in ANY scientific field was required. The majority of signers were computer scientists, biologists, chemists, cosmologists, and other scientists from fields unrelated to climatology.
The consensus I was talking about was the consensus of climatologists and scientists who actually work in the related fields.

If I'm right, we'll be at the higher ends of an overlapping set of warming cycles (solar & El nino), it will be far warmer than it was in 1998 or ever has been.
Morally speaking, I really hope that I'm the one who is wrong. Otherwise, I'm hoping for REALLY bad times for a lot of people in a lot of delicate climates, and that's just not cool.

It's parents' choice whether they want to take their kids out of school for any specific thing, I guess. This whole deal doesn't seem as bad to me as the Pledge of Allegiance, though. Is it a bad thing to want to help the president? :/ It's not like they're forcing you to like that he's doing or anything; you could freakin help him by coming up with new, better ideas! I'm in 8th grade and at school we watched the speach made by President Obama.
I was dissapointed! All he did was tell us to stay in school and other socialist propaganda.
I can't wait for Rush Limbaughs "drop out of school" speech next week! :)

1) err... Global warming lunatics? First off anybody who seriously knows anything about California Fires knows that they are the cause of severe buildup of foliage in the forests. Naturally these fires would have burned on their own but due to the fact that Californians have not allowed any natural fires to occur. The moment a fire starts today it is on a magnitude uncontrollable due to the accumulation of a decade of unburned foliage.

This is such a WEAK "scandal" and always was. Another conservative "bullshit issue" to cloud the headlines and rile up the base. The letter "write a letter to yourself explaining how you can help the President" easily meant "write a letter to yourself explaining how you can help the country". Truly, they should have worded it that way. ie. what things could you do: recycle, start a fitness club, plant trees, help elderly, raise charity for a disease, etc. ...help the president...(sigh)

I think that parents should take their children out of school when they believe that their children will not be learning anything. Having the students right a letter to themselves on how to help Obama is not educationally related to anything.
