I think Roy fought better competition and achieved more than Calzaghe , but to say Roy would have beat Joe in the 90's or early millenium is something we can't prove or ever know , when they did fight Joe won and that's what the record books will say
Your right for the most part & I do agree. My issue is Roy Jones Jr, did not fight the same every since he moved up to Heavyweight then back to Light Heavyweight. From that point forward since reaching the Heavyweight Championship & winning it. He never fought the same, so NO. I don't think Joe would of beaten Roy Jones Jr in the late 90s, but your right the Record books will show Joe W over Roy Jones Jr in his later fights.
@TheAbbeyroad1969 Wow at your comment go look up all the fight from Jones in the olympics and Compare them to Park and did you even watch the Park vs Jones fight?
Dude, you remind me of a born again Christian or an extremist Muslim....no chance of changing your views....you keep watching and following boxing and i'll follow MMA....
If Green would have fought Jones 10 years ago he would habe been humilated. Green defeated an old man, not Roy Jones Jr. History will remember Roy Jones, Green is already forgetten a week after his last fight.
Green is almost the same age as Jones....its not like a young man beating up on an old man......Check Greens form 10 years ago...he was a machine....and would have destroyed Jones....accept it
Dream on. 1) Roy was a fighter who relied on speed and coordination, the first things to go in a fighter. 2) Jones fought the badest fighters around, took a lot more punishement then Green, witch ages him faster. 3) Jones never was the same after he moved up into the heavyweights and had to lose all that weight again.
I don't have to accept anythin, you have to accept this, Jones is an all time great, Green not and that's a fact.
Wake up man, Jones is riding on hype. Its the name of the game, build the fighter up to legendary status and watch the money roll in for all involved. Green had been trying to get a fight for years with Jones, but Jones or should i say his management, ALWAYS had some reason to decline the fight. I have followed Greens career from day one, the facts are there...check them out, watch video footage, Green would have destroyed him, just like he did when he got the chance....
I couldn't realy understand why you had such a strange opinion, contradicting every single boxingexpert. Then I watched your profile and saw that you were from Australia, just like Green. That explains a lot. I would say, dream on if you think Green was a greater fighter then Roy. And maybe they will remember Green in Australia but in the rest of the world they don't care about him. That's why Roy gets to fights hopkins, nobody would pay to see Green...
Jones is no bum, and he's definitely got great skill..........but no way is he as good as they try and make out. He's never impressed me to the point where i'd regard him the pound 4 pound best fighter in the world.
MMA? I will never forget the fight Mercer-Sylvia. Mercer who was almost 49 years old, fat, punch drunk, puched Tim Sylvia (former UFC champ, one of the best mma guys) out cold with one punch, the fight lasted 3 seconds. I see guys in mma fighting for the title who work full time! Can you imagine a world class boxer working full time? A real pro has to train all day, live for his sport. The point I want to make is that there is a a HUGE difference in talent between boxing and mma.
I think you'll find none of the top ranked MMA fighters today work for a living, they are contracted to 6 figure deals. At first i was reluctant to follow MMA, and having watched a program showing the top 100 fights, i must admit i was impressed. The fights are much more realistic in terms of how a fight plays out in real life and another good point i have noticed is that the judges are pretty much right most of the time, no bullshit decisions so common in Boxing.
-sich- Shane Carwin(undefeated), the guy who is gonna fight brock Lesnar(world champ ufc) works full time... Just try to fight a boxer who fights for a major belt who works full time, I dare you.
Speaking of Brock Lesnar, just try finding a boxer who fights for the title after only 2 fights!
You don't seem like a real boxing fan to me. MMA more realistic? Boxing is a sport, a test of skill and will power in 12 rounds, it takes ring tactics, speed and coordination that takes decades to master.
Your right...im not a boxing fan...anymore. MMA is over taking boxing in terms of growth and popularity, get with the times man.....boxing is DOOMED and the sooner it kicks the bucket the better.
Taking over? Just compare the box office between boxing and mma man :-). Boxers make 100x the money mma guys make. It's broadcasted prime time, it's an olympic sport. What is mma? The flavor of the month for a very particular audiance, who prefer a fast adreneline rush above a display of heart, skill and intelligence like boxing. I boxed myself, I know what it takes to make it to the top, extreme skill. All the guys who are not good enough for boxing or an other high paid sport go to mma.
@JONNOG88 The fact is that he was an exceptional boxer in his prime. He had great talent but was not a fighter. He bottled fighting Nigel Benn in his prime because Benn would have come to hurt him, rough him up and bust him up. Jones looks like a fool nowadays, way past his prime and his ass handed to him by Hopkins.
Joe won that fight. Still hes a bitch and wont be remembered as a legend becuase all he did was fight and best 2 old legends but didnt give a rematch and thats all that he has to his name. Sad he thinks hes a legend and great fighter cuase hes neither.
No I'm not British I'm from Massachutsetts. I realize hes a boxing fan now because Iv'e seen him in a few other boxing vids. But I left that comment 7 months ago when they were campaigning so it was a bit random to see him.
hey dumbass, why do you think Roy Jones made it as far as he did. It was because of the training his father instilled in him from day one. Ask RJJr and he will tell you that himself. He would not have become the great boxer he became if it wasn't for his father.
MCain's legislation, the "Professional Boxing Ammendment Act" was passed in 2006. It is all about health and safety standards, establishing a centralized medical registry to protect boxers, and providing uniformity in ranking criteria and contractual guidelines for professional boxers.
roy jones was never a technical fighter, he fought with speed and great instincts. The man never used a jab and would always do unconvential tactics in the ring. once is speed slipped he was vunerable. You see in the first KO with Tarver he led with a lead right hand and stood there to watch it, leaving him self open in tarvers power zone, you dont do that with a southpaw. so i blame it on his lack of technique or disregard for it
Well thats what happens when you craft your whole fighting technique on unnatural reflexes. He was a phenomenon to boxing and could break all the rules, thats what made him great. When you get older reflexes diminish, look at Ali before him after his reflexes left all he could do was rope A dope.

I am British and a massive Joe Calzaghe fan (who has meet him in person).
But I must say that the Jones Vs Calzaghe fight was a farcade.
Calzaghe should have fought Chad Dawson/Kelly Paylik instead.
and Jones will no doubt be ranked above Calzaghe in the All Time Greats list.
JONNOG88 2 years ago 25
does calzaghe still fight?
sfmasterkush 2 years ago
No, he has offically retired as of November of 2008.
His last fight was against RJJ.
Although there was talk of him coming out of retirement to fight Reigning WBC Super-Middleweight champ and and fellow brit Carl Froch.
But I personally can't see that happening

That's tough love. Roy Jones's dad probably just wanted to see his son be the best, and to be the best you have to sacrifice.
The only thing is his dad wanted to run Roy's career as much as he did, he their personalities clashed and they had to split up.
