The olyimpics and x games are fun but if you are to competitive you lose sight of the sport and your no better than some jock. Craig Kelly saw this and quit riding competitions even though he was the best and always winning.

Out of curiosity and a TIME fan, I actually browsed to the article in question "Living: Snowboarders Invade The Slopes", well the one regarding snowboarding in that Ronald Regan "Can he recover?" issue. (March 9, 1987). It is a totally NON-biased article about snowboarding being a new sport and some people worrying about it while others are loving it. No where in the article is the quote "the WORST new sport to be found" if your interested in reading it you'll have to sign up.

Actually jake burton did not steel ideas, he took a product that he could invest in and made it better, note the he is the person who modernized snowboarding, and you wouldnt know snowboarding like it is if it were not for him.

They did make a mean stick and some of the high end ones are still made in Austria. Not sure if they make anything in America any more. Most all of their stuff is now made in China. I don't trust Chinese plastic. The real bummer about burton is that they buy innovative technology and new inventions and patent them. They never use them and prevent other companies from testing and developing the next best thing. Carpenter never innovated, he just married rich and had to get a job. Buy local!
