  • i dont like the palm prepaid it sucks balls

  • Great Vid, thanks for the info!!!

  • thank u. very helpful

  • Does anyone knows when the palm pre arrives in Greece?

  • palm rubbbish

  • awesome vid i have been waiting for this exact vid

  • yes the pre rocks and its better then the Iphone. all the iphone has its 3 years of apps. give it 3 months and the pre will have half their apps.

  • So overall... is this better han the Instinct? because im thinking about getting rid of my instinct and getting this

  • i want the palm, iphone, & blackberry damn it.

  • I have an iPhone and a blackberry. Hit me with questions if you so wish.

  • Kool, but I know them both pretty well; my sister has the blackberry & my cousin has an iphone. which one do you prefer?? I bet if you have the new iPhone 3gs then the iPhone wins. The new Moto Cliq looks pretty good also.

  • i get my palm pre in 20 minets

  • Where IS the iPhone?!?!

  • were is the iphone

  • if u like plastic phones with a keyboard built for infant size hands go with the palm pre if you want endless apps a built in ipod great mutimedia options great internet browsing go with the iphone

  • your a moron.

  • "let me hit 'send'...hang on..hang on...got it"

  • Dude that was hilarious!!!!!!!! Make sure I touch it right..I touch it 4:36

  • i played with the keyboad and i dont like it

  • WebOS. PalmOS is on the treos and centros.

  • you are correct

  • detailed and very useful ... thank u very much

  • If the iphone took on and kicked the g1 and the storm's butt it will do the same thing with the "palm pre"

  • it doesnt kick the g1s butt . the storm sucks the palm pre rocks

  • yes it doe kick the g1s butt but haven't messed with a palm pre so i can't say

  • webOS

  • Who gives a fuck about which phone is better anymore? Just get the best phone with your preferred cell carrier. Iphone for ATT and Pre for Sprint.

I have Sprint, haven't gotten the Pre yet but plan on getting it. I have no problem whatsoever with their coverage and I don't give a flying fuck about GSM or a Sim Card. I don't travel around the world so who cares?

Simple, get the phone you want and stop freaking comparing so much.

  • comparing is good when you're talking about a couple hundred dollars.

  • YEAH, GO BUTTONS!

    I never liked touchscreens... ^^

  • What a fucking hypocritical world view. Come on, you hate science, reason and believe naturalist principles are superseded by supernatural ones. Yet you're happy to sit on the backs of genius who can make modern day miracles, all the while hating what they believe and stand for. I'm offended any piece of software I've written might have benefited your life in any way.

  • In regards to the instinct being an "iphone killer", nope, not even close. The instinct is not even a smart phone, its just a phone with a touch screen. It had no business apps on it nor did it have much 3rd party support. Other smartphones such as windows mobile and blackberries have had this for awhile. Palm has some catching up to do and once it is released on a GSM carrier, I'm sure it will be much better.

  • I have dealt with palms in the past. I have had 3 treos, 600, 650, and 750. The iphone has the pre beat on many fronts. Firstly, screen size, iPhone wins. Second, GSM and SIM cards, very important to those who travel worldwide and want flexibility. Third, the iPhone is not on sprint. There is a reason why you pay less per month with sprint, they lose more customers per quarter than any other provider in the US. They couldn't get away with charging what apple does.

  • There have been quite wide spread quality related complaints with Palm Pre. These include faulty displays, faulty sliding mechanism, gap between the two parts, speaker problems, dust gathering behind display unit plus battery issues.

  • iphone > instinct > pre

  • Ive owned both the instinct and the pre. pre wins hands down

  • I bought an iPod Touch and my cell phone is separate and through Verizon. Maybe I should have gotten the iPhone, but I didn't want AT&T.

  • Verizon Wireless has been trying to have APPLE create an iPhone for them. The reason APPLE hasn't done it is because they have a contract with ATT and they are rewarded for promoting ATT only. ATT wants all Americans to have an ATT plan.

In the US contracts are more valuable to the carriers than selling the phones.

This is why phone contracts in the US are more expensive elsewhere.

  • What a great idea God gave man to make this ! we dont have free will, god do everything right

  • thanks for the review, bro. appreciate it :D I'll be upgrading to a new phone next month, so I def. needed this comparison :)

  • is is pressure sensitive or heat sensitive?

  • neither, it is sensitive to electric charges...your hand is a good conductor for those (correct me if i am wrong).... basically the screen is called a capacitive screen. A pressure sensitive screen is a resistive screen.

  • ohhh okay...well does that mean it is really sensitive? cuz i rather have a sensitive touch screen....The iPhone is heat sensitive so you can barley touch it and it will work, which is what i like...so is electric charges really sensitive too?

  • It is really really really sensitive ... but it has a slower CPU than the new iPhone 3GS

Any phone with a capacitive screen is very sensitive and fast. Just make sure it is not an LG phone and make sure that it has a capacitive screen and you are good ... I gaurantee.

I prefer resistive touch screens, however, because i enjoy the use of a pointy stylus (it allows for precise input such as making images with mobile versions of photoshop or paint).

  • What you learned in the internet about heat sensitive is false. You are learning false information from technologically illiterate people, don't blame them, they aren't engineers. The iPhone does not have a heat sensitive screen. It has a capacitive screen just like the Palm pre. A capacitive screen is a screen that is sensitive to electrical charges.

You can test if the iPhone has a heat sensitive screen and learn that it doesn't. Heat a long stick-like object and use it...it wont work.

  • But just get the iPhone 3GS for the sake of the processor. The iPhone 3GS has 600 megahertz and is very fast. The Palm Pre has 400 megahertz and is not that fast.

This gives an impression that the iPhone is more sensitive. The fact of the matter is that it is just much faster and processing your input.

  • ohh okay cool thanks =]

  • Great video. I have the LG Xenon. I have found it is a pretty good phone. I tried the iPhone and the more I played with it, I found I didn't like the way the keyboard felt. With my Xenon I have a full tactile keyboard.

  • Why am I watching this?

  • cuz you clicked on the video

  • because you clicked on the video

  • pff. normal phones text faster than ones with qwerty's

  • O_0 I listened to the whole video and then i got shocked when you mentioned price per month WTF! 112$ per month?

I should just forget about the price we get charged over here for most expensive iphone ~ 45 euros per month ( which i thought was a lott for someone that is 80%/20% gonna use the phone for internet)

You guys are getting robbed over there.

  • yeah that's about half :/ welcome to greedy capitalist America ^^'

  • that's why you hack it like you do the iphone for free internet taking out 80% of the monthly bill if you cancel the official internet. I think most iphones are jail breaked now cuz it was like over 150 a month w/ internet or something and 20 w/o internet. XD

  • I had the weirdest dream last night ... I was walking with my family along the beach and then I saw jezuzfreek come up and start talking to my Dad and i was like "Whoa awesome I didn't know u knew him Dad!" haha lol!!!

  • omg

    palmpre is awesome

    lovely indeed

    thanks jezuzfreek

    -.-

  • what about music? can u upload your mp3s and listen to music?

  • 8gb vs 32gb? eat dirt palm pre. the procossor on the iphone pwns the palm pre. its much faster. also the iphone is more reliable. i¨ve heard several storys about the palm pre failing and had to be returned for a new one

  • 32 gig is the expensive one. the iphone is a cult fan boy machine.

  • Iphone still has the advantage of the thousands of user created apps

Not a fanboy of the iPhone, I actually hate apple, but it was a guranteed hit whereas all the other "Competetors" are risky

  • then call me i cult fan boy

  • I love having a keyboard too, not a palm fan but I would rather have a palm than the icrap any day

  • Dude Jezusfreek, how can you be so appreciative of technology given to us by science and the wonderful collaboration of thousands of people, yet at the same, take a huge figurative shit on all of that knowledge by preaching archaic texts which have no modern relevance?

  • have you even read the bible? its completely relevant

  • The more I read the bible, the less relevant it becomes, the less sense it makes, and the more I shrink in horror from the god-thingy called Jehovah, and the brainwashed {i know, i used to believe} drones who clamor about his murderous, genocidal virtues.

  • SPEAK ENGRISH PREAZE!

  • great video, and its nice to see a technical side of you jezuzfreek

  • Jezuzfreak777 they have chip inside, they track your moves, txt mes, etc. its the Future AntiChrist's plan. be careful .

  • cough! G1!! cough!

  • G1 is a nice phone but it is very ugly. android is nice but its based off linux such as so is Palms WebOS.

This phone can do everything the g1 can do and it looks sleek.

    G1 doesnt have mutli-touch

G1 doesnt have navigation either. I considered the G1 but settled on the best!

    lol

  • hehe, i think the ugly part is subjective :P

to each there own tho. i like the g1. i got a really

good deal on it to tho. and the phone i used before was

a moto slvr so its a huge step up..

  • Nice video, it's new from what you usually do.

  • Good review JF but I'd choose the Iphone just because I prefer apple since I've never really had any problems with any of their products, though the Palm Pre does seem to have it's advantages. Do more reviews like these!

  • PDAs are devil's work.

Real christian rebuke such dark sided technology.

  • lol?

  • wooah. Jf, if you aren't able to find that thing tomorrow, don't come up with any theories that I stole it!

  • Nice review!

  • nice review looks really nice shame i can't afford one =P

  • flash support is to be comming as well.

    Your review was ok Anthony

  • Isn't it nice to see what kind of fun gadgets science can produce? Now let's see what you can get with prayers.

  • Yeah, and the best part about it, AntiChrist, is one day technology will take away your freedom.

  • The HTC touch pro ownz all of the iphone crap.

  • i considered one of them but the store i go to refuses to sell them because they have had nothing but troubles with those phones locking up and glitching.

  • Nice review. I think the phone looks decent and compact. Blu tooth wi fi nice camera speakerphone but I'm a iphone person for now.

  • i prefer windows based phones

  • Nice review. Thanks.

  • The application lag times are so big... Pretty much ruins the whole thing for me. If the phone is not responsive, it's not worth much.

I prefer iphone's 3gs very fast speed over huge lags and multitasking.

  • I dont suffer from lag and I sprints 3g is actually tested as being faster than At&ts

  • Cute iphone ripoff . . . . but still an iphone ripoff. One of the things that really won me over with the iphone was its coverflow feature in itunes. I used to have a smart phone with a physical keyboard and at first I thought the iphones virtual keyboard was a deal-breaker. But after I got used to it it became even easier to use. To me, the comparison between the iphone and its ripoffs is a lot like comparing OSX to Windows. Everything is just so pretty and simple and uncluttered in OSX.

  • But... OSX sucks for trying to do anything other than what Apple "allows".

"iPhone rip-offs" are the way forward from the overpriced under-functional iPhone.

  • That's why they've come up with iphone jailbreaking. OSX isn't anywhere near as restrictive as OSX. OSX has its api open to anyone wanting to make an app in it.

  • Why settle for knockoffs? Just buy an iPhone and get it over with.

  • the iphone is over rated over hyped and over priced when you look at the phone plans.

I am a wise consumer. I spend my money cautiously

  • I don't look at plans. As a wise consumer i never get shackled to a service provider with plans that benefit them more than me. I buy phones with no service plans attached.

But that's neither here nor there. The iPhone isn't over rated. Instead of buying a new "iPhone killer" every time (that doesn't kill anything besides your last knockoff), just get the real deal. You wont regret it.

I can assure you that you can surf the web and use a calculator at the same time on the iPhone.

  • My phone can do a lot more than the i phone. and it does it better

  • Really? I must have missed all the things the Pre can do in your video then, cause the iPhone does it all, including video recording.

Face it. its another knockoff. You can tell by all the swiping to delete stuff. And the silly gesture thing added at the bottom is pure proof of it. It's like they were going - "well, we want it to look like an iPhone but we have to add a silly gimmick so nobody would notice". And a physical keyboard? argh... its obsolete.

  • Some still like the keyboard because they like to feel the buttons. They can type without having to watch where their fingers are going and it doesn't take up any part of the screen.

So they say... Maybe someday, I'll find out myself. :D

  • Keyboards are not obsolete...keyboard phones have major advantages that techies strive for with their phones: 1) Tactile Feedback 2) Better than Multi-Touch 3) Screen domain space reserved for viewing only

Next... the OS has been highly popular among phone reviewers and techies. I have asked a lot people what their favorite Operating system is, and they say

  • that WebOS also known as the Palm Pre's OS is the current favorite.

  • btw, it has a multitask function...the main purpose of this phone and swipe gesture is for the multitask function...the iPhone does not have the ability to place applications active in the background like the Palm Pre...

therefore the iPhone does not automatically adjusts the profiles and wi-fi or bluetooth connections according to the time that you want it to toggle.

the Sprint can do this multitasking and background applications, which the iPhone can't.

    Think about it mate.

  • Let's say you have an calendar software on the iPhone. If you write down the appointment, you will need to manually open the application to view the appointment.

You won't be automatically notified of an upcoming appointment. So the calendar and appointment software is totally useless on an iPhone.

I think the only iPhone software that can be automated is the default iPhone alarm clock.

This is the reason why iPhone has games only. Games are foreground applications.

  • And so, the "Alert" option on the iPhone calendar is there for looks? Weird, cause I have been getting my calendar alerts ever since i started using my 2G iPhone, 2 years ago. And with push, i'm sure that 3rd party cals could do the same.

Yes, it has no multitask (though it does, since you can play music and do anything else at the same time), but since it saves the state of the app you close, the is virtually the same thing. TBC...

  • As per the demonstration, nothing is stopping you from switching from the browser app to the calculator app on the iPhone and when you switch back and forth, you resume their last saved state. So how is it relevant if they are actually both running at the same time or not? One could argue that its better to have the RAM reserved for one app then let it be hogged by multiple apps and have end user worry about managing it.

    TBC...

  • Does it have drawbacks? Sure. Are there anywhere near as dramatic as the "OMG NO MULTITASKING" crowd would like us to think? not by a long shot.

As for techis getting hot for WebOS, call me when the Pre gets 25% the number of apps the iPhone has. Chances are you wont get there before a new Palm comes out with a new OS and this one becomes obsolete. Or better yet - everyone switches to android.

Devs go with what's popular. I am not seeing the Pre overtaking the iPhone on the popularity front.

  • As for the connectivity profiles, i'm not sure that i understood what you meant. You are looking to have your Wi-Fi profiles change according to the current time?

The iPhone does automatically detect new Wi-FI networks and connects to them automatically without you lifting (and then touching with) a finger, no matter what app you are currently using, and even if you are not using one at all.

I'm not sure what your issues are with the connectivity profiles.

  • Okay...about the connectivity profiles... you see.. I don't have 3G plan, and I go to this school in which wi-fi internet is free. Basically my Xperia X1 phone is able to turn on wi-fi automatically from 3 o clock pm to 8 o clock pm and after 8 pm and before 3 pm it will turn off.

Basically, this software is designed to save battery because turning off wi-fi is really efficient when you don't have wi-fi access in your area.

My phone is also able to adjust different times to "schedule"

  • This is because I go to school from 3 to 8 pm.

  • My phone is also able to restart every 3 AM. I tell my phone to restart every 3 AM because I want it to release the RAM and I know that restarting your phone everyday is very good for your phone.

At 1 AM my phone turns off all phone connectivity and goes into airplane mode because I don't want to be interrupted during my sleep, and also, it saves battery just like turning off wi-fi sensor.

I also have an application that announces the time every hour so that I don't need to look at the clock.

  • Anyways, I have used the iPhone for 1 week before I sold it. I didn't know that the calender was able to give alerts even though it is closed. I apologize.

But I already knew the MP3 player was able to play in the background.

I just don't like the fact that things are so restricted on the OS.

  • But there are two main reasons for multitask

    1) To be able to know which applications you need to use and close, multitasking on iphone is harder because I can't remember what I am suppose to do when I am trying to juggle between 10 applications. Do I really have to write a list on paper on which applications I need to use?

    2) Multitasking allows for applications to run in the background and do background functionalities such as announcing time, controlling the device automatically, etc

  • Multitask shouldn't be called multitask really, cause any phone can do that, it depends on what people consider multitasking.

Also, I could also organize application in separate panels so it is easier for me to remember which applications to switch to and to do.

I emphasize the need for iPhone to allow all applications to run in the background and therefore have automated functions, because I love it, it's like having an assistant do all of the little stuff for me.

  • I don't use Mobile Mac OS or WebOS ... I use windows mobile, and yes I would like a pretty interface, but because I need this functionality so much, I will have to stick to Windows Mobile.

Web OS has multitask but I don't like the fact that it's been around for 3 months. Windows Mobile has been around for years and I get exactly what I need from software developers.

  • I don't like iphone because most applications are games and most applications are designed for on the spot activities... such calculator, dictionary, notes ... I want something like the mp3 player and calendar announcements on the iphone that you mentioned.

  • Actually I'm wrong about windows mobile being around for 3 years. It's been around for 8 years.

  • As a side note, i did enjoy the review itself. I know its not your usual thing.

Just wanted to make it clear that while i disagree with you, i appreciate your effort.

  • that technology is an abomination and sin

  • Oh shut up.

  • What about the technology that enables you to use the Internet then? that doesn't seem to bother you does it ;P

  • apple is the worst for the environment!

  • Cool.

  • palm is michael jordan playing for the wizards. ugly dinosaur i'm sorry just my opinion

  • I subscribe to a lot of tech related channels, so seeing palm pre vs iphone 3gs was nothing out of the ordinary, but then I saw that it was by you I was kinda surprised lol. Getting the pre was a good choice, I am thinking about switching to sprint and getting one myself, switching from my tmobile G1.

  • T mobile has horrible internet speeds.

  • drat, i have at&t, but congrats on your new fancy phone!

  • That is a sweet phone, I am totally jealous

  • Is this a smart phone?

  • Its considered one yes.

it is palm. palm specializes in making smart phones

  • Bummer, I strongly dislike dataplans.

    Good review though.

  • you should look at the phone it is more phone than smart phone. Its done right .

  • ahh my friend you should look at the palm. the palm pre is amazing. Did you notice the 162 versus 99 dollar a month plan difference. Thats a savings of nearly 750 bucks a year. I would never pay that much more for so little in return. Did you know the palm was designed by two of the guys that designed the I phone.

the were smart enough to make one that finally multitasks but hey you got a bright shiny compass............ lol

  • how much was your palm pre?

  • i extended my contract another year and got it for 199.00 after 100.00 rebate

  • cool. thanks.

do most phones, including the palm pre, give the option to choose whatever phone service (t-mobile, sprint, verizon) we desire?

  • Most cell providers offer a few phones that are exclusive through them alone. My palm pre is available only through sprint

  • that's what I use at the moment (sprint). However, i'm on a family plan and my family is switching to T-mobile. So, I'm looking for a great phone compatible with T-mobile that is at a reasonable price for a college student.

    Thanks again for the information.

  • tmobile has the g1 it looks kind of archaic but it is a nice phone that can do a lot. It is a touch phone and has lots of apps

  • ah, so that's the phone my co-worker has. Thanks for filling in the blank there for me. that's what i was looking for earlier today. Thanks and God bless.

  • Good vid, Jezuzfreek.

How were you able to upload a vid longer than 10 min?

  • Partners and people who have had a Director account before... a certain date, idk, are able to do so.

  • God loves me........... i have an old directors account.

  • Great review bro!

  • thanks

  • i miss my sprint blackberry!! now i have cricket! try running sprint tv or the gps on my blackberry with cricket

  • Ive heard bad things about cricket. dropped calls and texts taking hours to be delivered.

  • well the reception is pretty good where i live..throughout san diego county it works well...but i miss my gps! im so lost without it! literally!

  • i love gps on my phone . glad your cricket works well:) the prices are amazing.

  • where you at Kobe??!?! BAM!!! fifth!!

  • Servant of god meats Iphone when will servant of Iphone meat god?

  • there's no stopping this kid! BAM!! 4th!!
