I about died laughing on the Storage Wars show where Dave Hester's wimpy son was going to "spend his life savings on a locker." All through the show, the kid [actually, 22 years old!] was whining to the point of almost crying. What a wimp-ass kid. Would love to see him in a Marine boot-camp. Shows this "tough-guy" Hester was a wimp himself, and the generation of wimps continue.
I love the original Storage Wars, the new Texas show, not so much. The characters aren't as exciting. This video shows Dave in a different light. The clips of him in the show portray him mainly as a rude, obnoxious jerk. Just a reminder that the characters in these "reality" shows are snippets of what the network wants us to see/experience. He has a regular guy side too. TFS!

We wound up living in a small apartment (I slept in the living room and my sister in a closet). My mom couldn't afford the locker rent 1 month but she thought she could the next so they wouldn't get rid of our stuff. She got laid off work and had to choose between food and the locker rent.

This is a very, very tough business...I do not underestimate the ton of work and knowledge, not to mention savvy, that is required. Then you have to go through thousands of pounds of crap to get that elusive nugget....then haul the rest away. Not an easy way to make a living. Although I really relate to the appeal of auctions, yard sales and antique stores, I don't want to have to work that hard. I'll stick to being a professional artist. But these guys have my respect. T'aint easy.
All of these storage buying shows are fake. They wouldn't film unit after unit of old clothes and stacks of newspapers so they HaVE to know what's in them beforehand. Staged and fake!

Dave's good at that, which will bust his opponents funds, knocking out competition on the things he actually wants to win. Keep in mind it's TV, and those heated battles are what draw in the viewers... the boring ones don't get aired.

It looks like most of you dummies don't understand that "Storage Wars" is highly edited, scripted, and even staged to entertain the audience. The producers made Dave a bad guy to make the show interesting. Also, do you really think every storage unit they buy has something good in it? No, it's staged to keep the ratings up. In real life, you might find 1 out of 100 units that have something valuable in them.

If you are only scoring 1 out of 100 units maybe you are over paying for your units. You should be making money on most of your units

@ralflor I agree 100%. Watching him compared to the others on the show they hate him because he is so smart. He knows when to bid and raise the bids at the right time. Also I think fans of Storage Wars cant see he is just brutally honest and cant understand why he says what he does. If anyone wants to learn the trade, I am positive this is the man you should watch.

It is amazing how he seems human in this old video...check him out on A and E's Storage Wars to see the huge asswipe and douce bag he has become. Everyone else on the show is great, including the Dotsons. Dave is just a dick. He runs the bids up on stuff he doesn't want. I suggest boycotting him and his store for those who live in that area.

This is a very, very tough business...I do not underestimate the ton of work and knowledge, not to mention savvy, that is required. Then you have to go through thousands of pounds of crap to get that elusive nugget....then haul the rest away. Not an easy way to make a living. Although I really relate to the appeal of auctions, yard sales and antique stores, I don't want to have to work that hard. I'll stick to being a professional artist. But these guys have my respect. T'aint easy.

@kosmokramer07 - They can be if someone keeps bidding you up driving off your emotions. To be successful you have to keep your cool and don't bid with emotion. Dave's good at that, which will bust his opponents funds, knocking out competition on the things he actually wants to win. Keep in mind it's TV, and those heated battles are what draw in the viewers... the boring ones don't get aired.

@Gazooo29 Some (most) thrift stores here like goodwill, salvation army etc. are charities on donations. There are other thrift stores like Dave's that are for profit, low cost bargain items. 2 different types of stores just using the term "thrift" in their name.

I swaw Chewie & Jimmy loading up the palates working hard as always. It's true the show makes dave seem a little more of a dick than he really is.. although he does have that dooshy go getter attitude, he is also a great person if you know him. Love/Hate type of deal.. Also depends on what kinda day he's having. NCG & R2RTS is a great place. Everyone should go & check it out. The best TS in SoCal!

This show on A& E is THE best.... dan D and his wife are the nicest funniest great american type of people. I could watch them all day. I wish i had people like them in my life. They seem like they can make any occasion happy and just the sweetest people ever. Dan is such a people person and soooo funny. These people who critisize are just jeolous because he gets attention and they dont! Mr " yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep" is classic and i continue to say that all the time! Please do more episdes

It looks like most of you dummies don't understand that "Storage Wars" is highly edited, scripted, and even staged to entertain the audience. The producers made Dave a bad guy to make the show interesting. Also, do you really think every storage unit they buy has something good in it? No, it's staged to keep the ratings up. In real life, you might find 1 out of 100 units that have something valuable in them.

As far as "only good stuff is found" Are you watching the same show as I am? I see bad units all of the time. I have been selling units for over 25 years and I have sold better stuff than what the folks have found so far on the show. If you are only scoring 1 out of 100 units maybe you are over paying for your units. You should be making money on most of your units

@MatrixOutsider while the part you mentioned about the show may be true, i cant begin to tell you how wrong you are about the units never having anything valuable in em...you think MOST tenants pay to store valueless crap? granted, lots of what is found has no value in a resale market, but my parents being managers of storage facilities for years now, sometimes they paid me to clean out the units that didnt auction off for even $5...just bc it looks like shit, doesnt mean its all shit, trust me.
