@kmurch23 The arrangement must be from "Wedding Music for Flute and Guitar", by Mychal Gendron, Cathedral Music Press. It's published by Mel Bay Publications, MB94737. The performance is note for note from that arrangement.
The only shame is that nowadays even in classical music women tend to dress like working girls :( IMHO this mocks also the divine content of that masterpiece...
How is she dressed like a "working girl"? She's wearing a simple LBD with black heals.
What should she be wearing? A long sleeved ankle length high collar dress with pantaloons?! A burka?!
I've worn backless dresses for concerts before. And it doesn't "mock" the divine masterpieces I played. Just because it's classical music does not mean it has to be stuffy, uptight and "Puritan-like". Classical music can be divine, elegant, sensual and sexy.
@MozartGirl1756 Having played Jazz and Rock "music" and living that lifestyle for over a decade, I had to learn the occult forces and spirits behind these "styles" the hard way! (Btw.: both Jazz and Rock were afro-american slang words for sex.)
Find the documentaries "Hell's Bells 2" and "They Sold their Souls for Rock 'N Roll" here on YouTube" - and pls don't have your mind made up before seeing them ;)
And of course: Mozart (very probably) was a pervert - still his music is not carnal :o)
It really is infuriating that there are so many comments that refer to the physical attributes, rather than the musical skills, of the flautist. Whoever she is, she is an exceptional talent, who must have worked incredibly hard to perfect her skills.
Sure, and there are lots of comments on the quality of this and other recordings from these two, always top-quality. It is true, however, that this is not the worst-looking girl you've ever seen.
You two play very well, but I must say that I don't like this arrangement very much. The chorale tune should be given to the instrument with the more distinctive timbre, in this case obviously the flute. This sounds less like a chorale prelude and more like a movement from a flute sonata. But at the end of the day, that's fine as well.
Please, can you tell me where i can get this sheet music. I 'm concertist and i would like to play this music with my flutiste, can you give me the name of the editor.
Very pretty, and well played! I did this as a violin duet last year with my co-concert master for solo ensemble. It went over well with the judges, but we weren't nearly as good as you, this piece was just breathtaking on the flute! Brava to you and kudos to your accompanist!
Wouldnt it be better to let the guitar do the isntrumental part, and the flute the voice part? Maybe its to boring for the flute, but to just play the bass and melody works very well on the guitar. Here he plays like a chord thing, and the voice part is really lost. but its still bach, so its nice
Beautiful! Such a lovely pairing, the guitar and flute on this piece. The performers take the elegance and grandeur of this superb work to a simple level; yet its very simplicity is what makes it so enchanting. Bravo! Just lovely. Thank you.
the chorale, which would be filled in by the trumpet, comes in on the thirteenth measure. hopefully you would be awake by then. A cornet is a bit more mellow, perhaps that would be preferred for this concerto. But you have to acknowledge that there is an entire element missing from this concerto, and it is the chorale.
I beg to differ. The chorale tune is in here and is played by the guitar starting at 0:58. There is no trumpet scored in the original (the tenors sing this chorale) and it is not a concerto (unless by that you mean it is concerted music). It is a chorale from a cantata. It was transcribed by Bach himself as an organ chorale prelude (BWV 645).
i know, but when the guitar takes over the chorale, you lack the walking bass provided in the first few measurments. If you dont like the idea of the trumpet playing the chorale, you could fill in the bass with a trombone. Even BWV 645 requires three voices. One for each hand and one for the feet. And trying to play the bass and the chorale on the same instrument results in somewhat of a mess. The timbre between the strings is too close in sound.
I play this piece as an organ-chorale (one of the Schubler-chorales). This version for flute and guitar is also very nice. On this video it is well played by these very good young musicians.
I spent my childhood in Leipzig, Germany and I often went in htis church, called Thomaskirche where Bach did his work to earn his dayly bread. I can feel the spirit of this piece "Wacht auf ruft uns die Stimme..." and I understand the sense of the words.
You played it as I feel it. Not to fast, with emotion and devotion. I miss any colrations from the original organ score, but that's not tragic.
very well done by both players!! I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for uploading.

Something about the guitar and flute together really compliment each other. Wonderful.

No, No, No, No, No! this is not how you play Bach. Another wrong interpretation of Sleepers Wake (Youtube has plenty).
The song has it's aesthetic "beauty" but Bach created for the spirit and this is rubbish in comparison.

But seriously? I hate, HATE to say you're train of thought is ridiculous, but it is. the fact that you think jazz and rock are linked to the occult.
I'm actually appalled that you think that way. Appalled. Stunned. Flabbergasted.
You realize that not ever classical composer was pure and pious right?? Some were sodomites, fornicators, bawdy and sacriligious.
Seriously.......
