Also, most of the parrots are born sterile, and needs to be injected with hormones to make them breed once they grow up. Even those which are not dyed.

Besides dyed parrots, certain species go under the scissors to create "attractive" finnage. I wonder, if some people would think one was a more attractive species to keep for show, if that one had 2 of his fingers amputated from both the arms, making him a 3 finger wonder.

Parrots (even parrot flowerhorns) can't close their mouth properly, and thus have a problem while eating, and even breathing.

When the fish's mouth opens, the operculum closes, drawing water into the fish's mouth. When the fish closes its mouth, the operculum opens, allowing fresh water to cross the gills. If a parrot can't close its mouth properly, then it is bound to face problems in the amount of water it can send to its gills for oxygenation.

Please don't keep parrots. They are deformed fish artificially developed by the men in the business. They have a very painful lifestyle while they survive. They can't even close their mouth. They are often mutilated to give them specific shapes. Also they are injected with dyes to give them the extra color (blue, purple, pink, green, etc etc)

@arpankar By artificial, you mean bred with two different cichlids, yes. There are actual parrots out there that can now close their mouths, and the orange ones are not dyed. I agree with not buying the fabulous colour ones, but my parrot cichlid is well taken care of/

@arpankar Please stop being ignorant. They are just a selective bred fish. They do great in an aquarium, They have no problem eating, swimming or defending themselves. They're like any other of the countless selective bred animal. Trying to say that keeping parrots is inhumane is stupid. Stop listening to the extremists and think up your own opinion for once. Parrot cichlids are a schooling fish as long as the water if perfect and you have great filtration thay will live find and not get stresed. yes i do say you should never do it cus you figure you dount truley no how it is inless you that fish but thay do do this a lot when razeing them and when getting redy for transport.

I urge people to not buy "parrot fish" or "flowerhorn" cichlids. Please help keep these hybrids out of the aquarium trade. The only reason why they are bred is for marketing. They have limited fertility and not to mention many are surgically altered through the fins and spine as juveniles. If you want to keep fish, take interest in the pure cichlid species rather than these.

I don't buy this at all, marketing? They're just another variety of fish. While we're at it then: don't buy any guppies, goldfish, koi carp and discus. You might as well include pedigree dogs, cats, pet pigs and horses as well. These fish are mostly infertile so they won't be damaging any wild stocks either.
