KYW sucked as an NBC affiliate. I've lost count how many shows they pre-empted (Wordplay, Classic Concentration, Sale of the Century, Your Number's Up, Blockbusters '87) along with putting on their specials and movies in prime time whenever they felt like it. KYW was a joke as an NBC affiliate. But they're much better now as a CBS affiliate and WCAU is alright now as NBC because they show all the shows. It's a shame their switches didn't come in the 80s.
It's a shame the full ending wasn't intact, I heard Bob Eubanks ended the show by saying, "....There's never a goodbye in this business, until next time..." something like that. But oh well, I'm happy because I've never seen any clips of this show until today:)
In the show's short run they gave away only 6 houses, prompting Bob to privately call the show "Dream Furniture" because they gave away a LOT more of that than houses. It was reportedly one of Bob's least favorite shows, besides Trivia Trap and Diamond Head Game. The couple on this show really had a LONGSHOT chance of winning, but I wonder if they might've wanted to do something a la Split Second finale where they give the couple the house anyway.
@whewfan If you go to Wikipedia, external links, and then The Dream House Fan Page the site shows that there were a total of ten houses won and not six. The show gave out over $3M!
Bob Eubanks didn't seem to be as emotional in this finale - unlike the finales of The Newlywed Game (ABC version) in 1974 and later Card Sharks in 1989.
What's missing at the end of the video are the very kind words about the people sitting adjacent to Bob - announcer Johnny Gilbert, model Debbie Bartlett, and executive producer Bob Synes (sitting in the wheelchair), who would eventually become executive producer of "Fun House".
I remember watching Dream House on WBZ in Boston. Back then, WBZ was owned by Westinghouse, which also produced Dream House. So, it was no surprise to see WBZ air this show. Not sure about KYW in Philly, though.
At the end of the series Group W(Westinghouse Broadcasting) no longer produced the series, Production moved over to Lorimar. KYW had every right to pick up any NBC shows, I guess KYW had no interest.
I bet that they just chose the combination "734" because its the last episode of Dream House. So, they just let the couple win their house on the last episode of Dream House.
I'm glad that the couple won their dream house on the Final Episode. Why did they take this show "Dream House" off the air? It would be "bad" if the couple did NOT win their house on the Final Episode. I wish they put this show back "on the air".
I was writing a fan fiction about this show and it's crossover with the Disney channel cartoon: "The Replacements" and after seeing this final episode of "Dream House", I'm gonna start all over again on the fan fic.
As not to spoil the outcome of the endgame, I notice that the sirens in the endgame are the same one used on the NBC Reg Grundy shows such as "Scrabble" and "Sale of the Century."

@whewfan Actually, according to a website, the show gave away at least ten houses during its run.

I used to watch this show...and would get excited when they won the house. What a way to end the series.

@AdamJ617 Or WJZ-TV Baltimore (an ABC affiliate) or KPIX-TV San Francisco (a CBS affiliate), now both CBS owned-and-operated stations.

$104,000 not bad for a daytime show in 1984. Was Michael Larson on PYL at tis time?
nextbarker 3 years ago
I believe the episodes that Michael Larson was on aired sometime in April of that year.
bluebear1985 3 years ago
The PYL episode was taped on May 19, 1984 and aired June 8 and 11,1984 as a two-part episode.

Well, Bob Eubanks is very ecstatic when the couple won their "Dream House" on the show's very last episode.

and the show that replaced it was "Scrabble."
This show was also cancelled the same time as "Hot Potato."
