Sorry , I was a bit harsh. I guess its economic reality. I actually looked at this as I'm thinking of buying property in the area. Montana, Idaho or ND. Im not inspired though. The best thiing Bismarck cold do is attract businesses back to the Main Street. And not Fast food joints. There are a few small towns like this around, but THAT is the way forward. from what you've shown your town looks like an industrial estate. I know it isnt easy but an active downtown is the way forward. Good Luck.
@cullyvan Bismarck's downtown actually is thriving, so much so that they will soon be building a 3rd public parking ramp to accommodate. There is a diverse mix of healthcare, entertainment (2 theaters), hotels, stores & restaurants, churches, education, housing, government & law facilities, banks, offices, etc. in downtown. There are very few vacancies. I did say that my other videos and website better portray the city at its best than this (my first), but no video will 100% show how a city is.
@cullyvan Consider this... if you were looking at moving to a city and discovered they didn't have national stores like Best Buy and Target; instead just local stores - would you still be as eager to move there? Unless you NEVER shop at those stores, I doubt it. They're part of this city, maybe not crowned jewels, but still important nonetheless. Without them, Bismarck wouldn't be as attractive to many.
@rhoff394 I hear you , but surely people in your neck of the woods are aquainted with the internet for shopping and UPS. You dont have to make excuses you know. If people really feel they need to be close to a BestBuy then fine. I dont. You should show nature, old buildings, history etc if you want people with some sense. If you want brain dead bastards, go ahead with the shots of Best Buy.
@cullyvan In case you missed it, there ARE pictures of nature, history, etc. in the video. I counted only like 4-5 pictures of national stores, some were included as pictures of shopping centers, out of all the pictures. Considering that it was only 5 short years ago we didn't have those types of stores, it is something people do value in our "neck of the woods". Online shopping isn't convenient or practical for everyone, especially the older demo, which dominates this region.
You're making assumptions based on your own experiences from wherever you live (which I'd guess ISN'T North Dakota). People LOVE their shopping here. Our national stores and restaurants are PACKED all day long, every day. It was a HUGE deal when we got those stores. I mean HUGE! My biggest issue with you, however, were your negative criticisms of Americans in general based on something so silly as a Best Buy pictured in a small-town video.
@cullyvan Shopping is such an important way of life for us that our stores are ranked nationally. Our local Kmart is the 13th busiest in the entire country (even with 2 Wal-Marts and a Target), our Menards is like 5th or 6th, etc. Shopping is very important to those living here. It's just a fact of life here.
@cullyvan The videos are intended as a marketing tool and showing national stores like Best Buy, Target, etc. shows that we have stores people recognize in Bismarck (something many don't know). A lot of people think we're in the middle of nowhere, cutoff from such things, so I feel it's important to show we DO have them. You're focusing on a small minority of the pictures featured. My newer videos do have a lesser focus on national stores, but they are still important to show.
@cullyvan that comment shows your ignorance of North Dakota, and many other cities in the upper Midwest. Most cities in this part of the country DON'T have those stores. There are only 4 Best Buys and 4 Targets in the ENTIRE STATE, and we get many visitors from Canada as well. You're assuming I'm trying to attract people from big metros, and that's not the case. Stores may not seem important to you if you do have those stores around the corner, but consider if you didn't.
ALLL U FUCKIN WHOREBAGS OUT THERE NEED TO GET A LIFE BCUZ BISMARCK MANDAN IS THE BEST. ALL YOU WHO LIVE IN THOSE BIG CITIES THINK YOUR SUCH BIG SHOTS RITE?????? WELL US NODAKS HAVE MORE SENSE IN OUR FINGER THAN YOU DO IN YOUR HEAD!!!!!!!! WERE ONE OF THE TOUGHEST STATES YOULL EVER FIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM NOT DIRECTING this TO ANYONE IN PARTICULAR HERE, [cough cough, bethanyannasophia,] but you are a fuckin whore if you dot like NORTH DAKOTA!!!!!!!!
I love this! I love North Dakota and I really love Bismarck! Great memories, wish I could see pics of some of the old businesses that were in downtown. The lunch counter at the dept store, the rides on the escalator, christmas shopping and the music.Lunch with my mother at the dining room of what is now called Peacock Alley...
I live in bismack and have been for 13 years. I lived in Arizona for a year and it was not even comparable to Bismarck. I love the scenery and everything about it.. Yeah it could have a little more fun things to do but who cares!! People underestimate this town. It truly is amazing!
wow bethany! i cant believe you! here i sit almost crying over this video cuz i mis my home so much and u go complaining about it! why watch something you hate so much!?! I just moved to lincoln, ne from bismarck and i dream about nd every night and cry about it! i love north dakota and the quiet! now you can get a life and get some emotions that dont reflect a rock's! Ergh! When you leave stupid comments, you get responses from people like me who love the open sky and plains of NORTH DAKOTA!!
Bismarck looks what it is - a smallish State Capital -but really nice, because I've been there. Not over the top, not showy, just what it is. Rock on!!
Ya know their might not be many things that you can do in Bismarck but so freaken what!! I mean you can make friends for life here, and it is a safer environment then other towns. I lived in the Mandan/Bismarck area my whole life and I loved it. The summers are nice and warm (sometimes) and the winters may be harsh but come on, it is an awesome place! GO BISMARCK! Also Bethanyannsophia get the heck out of here, if you don't like it. This video is awesome and if you can't appreciate then leave.
Beautiful city. If I remember I have a auntie live in that city, but we dont know each other, she is my father sister..and they didnt see each other for 40years or morethan...
only cuz i was looking for something else... and just so you know my family wasn't even supposed to live here. when my dad was 15 they passed through on the way to alaska. my grandpa decided he didn't want to live somewhere where it was dark so much, so they stayed here. it wasn't a choice... it was pure laziness. and i didn't even finish this vid because it made me wanna barf. if you're gonna show bismarck at least get some LIFE in it.
@cullyvan you clearly have something partial towards Europe, and you can't credibly criticize a city without having been there personally. There is way more than just strip malls in Bismarck. Just view my other videos or visit my website and see for yourself. Bismarck's downtown is thriving and a great place to "stroll" and people watch, same goes for all of our parks here. We have one of the highest park acres per capita in the nation.
I lived in Bismarck seven years ago. It was such a beautiful city. It's remarkable how memories come right back as if things were just seen yesterday, after viewing a simple photo....especially after seeing one for barely a second lol
I scared all the people away! Actually, I typically take my photos Sunday morning before businesses open. I want the buildings and structures, not the people and cars. There are a few with lots of activity though, like the one of Hobby Lobby.
The rest of bisso sucks Dx Ive lived here in 1 place my whole life this place gets so old so fast but the video cought most of the good partss
