I could feel the tears stinging the backs of my eyes as soon as he opened his mouth. This is one of those songs that just.. Makes you feel? I think it's absolutely beautiful and inspiring.
The simplicity of just him, singing resolutely into the broken ashes of America around him, reminds me of Dylan, but it's that much more powerful than Dylan for the same reason. I think Tom is carrying Dylan's legacy of calling forth the repressed, but I have a feeling that Tom will do a better job at focusing on that.

Chuck Ragan hands down!! I listened to his CD continuously for months after buying it and never got tired of it.
I have been a big fan of Against Me! for years (since they first emerged on Fat Wreck) and have been disappointed in the direction they have taken. I was hoping that Tom would hit the old roots of the anarcho-punk/folk when he came out with the acoustic CD, but was once again let down. I still love Tom Gabel and Against Me!, but it's not Reinventing Axl Rose or Eternal Cowboy.

Chuck Ragan hands down!! I listened to his CD continuously for months after buying it and never got tired of it.
I have been a big fan of Against Me! for years (since they first emerged on Fat Wreck) and have been disappointed in the direction they have taken. I was hoping that Tom would hit the old roots of the anarcho-punk/folk when he came out with the acoustic CD, but was once again let down. I still love Tom Gabel and Against Me!, but it's not Reinventing Axl Rose or Eternal Cowboy.

well it's not about the money, it's about changing your sound so the general public will like it. This album, however earned back lots of respect that iv'e lost with the dude. the album has a huge folksy old against me! feel to it. It is not worried about the general public except of course for the song random Hearts which is just another New Wave song as far as I'm concerned. What people always seem to forget is that its only "selling out" if you didnt really want to do it. Being on a major and making money isnt selling out if you're still making the music you want to make. Anyone who thinks Against Me sold out should just find a new band to like.
