Bless Troy and his intense vocal skill while playing a not so simple bass line at the same time!! Because the acoustic prep of the show didnt help! Was the sound techs' training based solely on Nirvana\SPumpkins?! Where's the guitar distortion filtering? Where are Branns snaredrum and basskick? Reduced only to the attack sound of harder strokes? Troy looks like he can barely hear his own voice through the monitor return. Thank the usual brilliant performers for saving this brilliant performance!
Awesome!!!!! they are the best out there right now hands down! And major I mean major fucking cred for the polka dot Randy Rhoads drum kit!!!!!!!!!! Thats fucking metal and respect!!! Love Mastodon!!
@locuratransparente Don't like it? Cool, there's a thing called preference, people have it when they like music, don't like this band? Shut the fuck up and listen to what you enjoy.
at 1:45 bear witness to Mastodon dominating...then cooking up a little Lizzy/Priest tastiness, all the while RR'S image on the bass drum and the Creature from the black lagoon doll on the pedal....MASTODON CANNOT BE DENIED
just saw them in san francisco. they sounded awesome. all the live performances i saw after crack the skye came out, the vocals sounded so bad. i don't know what they did, but they definitely sound a million times better
i love everything mastodon. they have evolved into a great band. i hate when great bands "lose it". the hunter is more melodic, and its great, still Mastodon.
Un'esecuzione semplicemente perfetta. I Mastodon hanno una qualità incredibile e sempre più rara: il loro sound rende meglio dal vivo che da studio. Veramente grandi
Over the years its become clear that Mastodon are master song writers and live entertainers. Though, their weak points have always been vocals. Even though on the album they can re-do their parts untill they sound great. With that said, this is the best ive heard them sound live vocally.
I always think to myself when im listening to Metallica (in their best shape), Pink Floyd and a few other bands. "fuck.. why couldn't i live back then. Too see these great bands preforme, and get to feel their greatness live". Well now i can. thanks to you Mastodon. The greatest band i have ever heard..
Mastodon are fookin awesome.Intelligent metal that you have to spend time with and chew over but rewards you with something that most other bands nowadays can't get anywhere near. They all seem really down to earth guys also with no ego, just happy to let the music do the talking. They also don't appear to take themselves too seriously either which is a common trait with a lot of bands today. One of my all time favourite bands.
I just realised.. these guys are like the Metal Beatles, in terms of their instrumental roles and singing. They've got a singing bassist, a singing guitarist, and sometimes they even let brann sing. (And yes, I know George sang for the Beatles but for my theory to work you gotta humor it a little) XD I hope Bill sings in the future.

@hiks45 Yeah but they're well-excused, they had barely put out Crack the Skye, and everybody gets sick once in a while, I've heard them live and it was flawless, so perhaps the sound recording was a bit off, settings wise..
@burnthebridges666 Assuming these people even have spouses. In my opinion they should just be forbidden from having sex at all, because clearly they wouldn't appreciate the wonders of that either.
They were ace but I don't think Later's sound engineers did them any favours. It could have been that the mighty Mastodon were just too much rock for the BBC though!
How come feist got to play twice but mastodon didn't? They should have burned out their eyes and cut off their tongues so they couldn't play ever again.
I'm so happy that Mastodon got on to this show "later with jools holland" cos these guys deserve all the recognition there is and like some else said it's good for metal music.
@gestapojohnson lol I hear their going to wheel Seth Putman's corpse out and plonk him on the piano and make him play with Jools by pulling his dead arms on strings like a puppet!
At 42 years old I've all but given up discovering new music, simply because I think there's been so much good music made already that I haven't heard yet. Proven last night as I stumbled upon Mastodon by chance as I was switching the TV off. Just turned it up and stood slack jawed for 3.5 minutes. Can't believe I haven't heard this lot before, they look and sound like they have nothing to prove, totally cool.
They have woken me from my Metal Slumber: Project Mastodon starts today.
@Wrecker1169 Dude, welcome to the club! Ignore what all the tossers are saying about their new album. Yeah, it doesn't sound EXACTLY LIKE THEIR OTHER ONES, but guess what, it's not those albums! The new one is amazing. The last one was amazing. The one before that was amazing, and so on... This band are evolving before our very ears and 'fans' should embrace it rather than slagging off 'their' Mastodon. Same goes for The Mars Volta. Every album is different. Every album is a 9 or 10/10
@Wrecker1169 Don't let all the suck shit scenefag bands around right now blind you man, there's a few great bands out there, just wade through all the bring me the horizon, fake post hardcore garbage and you'll find em lol
@Wrecker1169 mastodon are unfortunately the peak of metal these days-they're awesome but the rest aren't. They're awesome, but alas the scene since about 05 has become retarded...if you're getting back into metal, I'd suggest being braced for a long slog through awful shit to find the gems lol
@Wrecker1169 seriously great band! I was married in a Mastodon hoody. i've seen them twice and less than 2weeks til my 3rd show. they blow your mind live!!! Leviathin is one of my FAV Mastodon albums, check it out!
@Wrecker1169 Nail on the head, mate. They take a genre that's so full of theater and posturing and just put all their energy into making good music above all else. Everything about them is refreshing because of how they approach it.
I love these guys, yet I admit I've heard them truly sound like shit before. But, WOW!!! Troy's voice was in as fine form on this as anything I've seen. Just a great, great performance.
