  • I remember I was about 9 when the KInks happened. I saw them on TV and thought they were really different. Distorted guitars and a hard edge. Before Hendrfix. Before Zeppelin. Before any of them.

  • @maxjordan90 : dont forget about The Doors.

  • That was real !!!!! music ... 50s 60s 70s 80s

  • Ray Davies deserved a lot more credit than he ever got. The Kinks are one of the most unheard of Great band of all time. It is amazing how many friends quized had never really heard of them by name but then recognized a dozen or so of their songs no problem. Oh I thought so and so did that, naming another famous group of the time. Education is at your fingertips peopls, don't spend all your time watching porno!

  • The greatest....Yes, music sucks now.

  • the '60s - when music was music and barbers were paupers

  • @Lilreece08 did you do it "all day and all night?!" Lol j/k

  • This is amazingl

  • This is how metal started, some bands turning up their amps to distortion level to make themselves heard over the screaming fans.

  • @metafis. You should listen to Scorpions playing this in their latest Comeblack album from 2011. They did covers from 60s songs because they started the band in 1965 and grew with this music and respect the bands of that time. Now they are at their final tour after playing for over 45 years and a career in 6 decades. They had lots of influence on other bands. Bands like: Iron Maiden, Metallica, Bon Jovi etc. They grew up listening to Scorpions. Good thing to have other bands as rolemodels.

  • Yeah, that's ROCK ...with a girls crying background

  • funny how this video is from ages ago yet you now see kids with these sort of haircuts !

  • @thearchb well that's were the long hair started, in the 60s, with out the 60s, we would all still be with Elvis Presley haircuts xD

  • The guitarist looks like James May. :D

  • @AVeryBeautifulLoser Dave Davies, his brother Ray is singing. They are a riot too, they used to get into fist fights on stage, then just go back to playing like nothing happened at all.

  • The Boat that rocked xD

  • ive sucked cock to this song! x

  • I never even heard about the Kinks until Eddie Van Halen did his cover of "You Really Got Me"... Suddenly I found a million Kinks songs that were incredible. Ray Davies is one of the greatest songwriters that ever lived.

  • now thats one kick ass bass guitar! D:

  • I LOVE this. Ray Davies is almost cocky in his confidence here. They make the big sound live with no overdubs, and that chicken-scratch-on-speed solo is wonderful!

  • Fueron los antecesores de The Beatles

  • @Eva114711 They made a re-issue in 2004, see if can find it.

  • they all used epiphone casinos...keef, john and paul and george and the kinks little brother

  • I think the Kinks were on their own separate island compared to other guys in the industry. Don't get me wrong I love all the other 60's rock bands. But the Kinks were really doing there own thing. I think they were actually ahead of their time, these guys knew how to rock.

  • love this song, but anyone have th same version with a better sound quality?

  • Hey BlackSpyder73...if the Beatles hadn't come along...these bands would not have been inspired to write so well...think!!!

  • You couldn't hold a guitar any higher.

  • Think if the Beatles hadn't come along when they did, the other groups would have had so much better recognition and more popularity, Kinks, Zombies, Animals, any of them around that time. Not taking anything away from the Beatles, just saying, the others would have had a better chance.

  • やはりリフはこうでないとな。

  • I'm 13 and I wish I was born then... music was so much better and more meaning then :)

  • I think on the Studio Version a Young Jimmy Page is on this Recording.

    I could be wrong

  • @TL250Rider I think he did play backing guitar. There's a rumor that he played the solo, though Dave Davies has denied this. I could be wrong, but I think Page denies it too.

  • @MargotMilevaZ Page played the second rhythm guitar track on You Really Got Me heard behind the lead guitar work (which was wonderfully juvenile!)

  • cool, Erinnerungen kommen immer wieder......

  • Love the drummer face compared to the other members

  • his mic isn't loud enough

  • The Kinks deserve the same amount of attention as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. They were just as important.

  • @maxjordan90 How many big songs like The Beatles and Rolling Stones did they have?

  • @maxjordan90 I dig some of the Kinks songs, but YOU are WAY OFF... The Beatles and Stones sit at the top of the class. I'm a #'s guy so I'd say 20-1 Beatles/Stones great songs to a Kinks song. Kinks have 5 Beatles have 100! No doubt

  • @1mwhit82 Actually the significance of the Kinks as one of the most influential groups ever did not come from their hit records, though songs like "You Really Got Me" and "All Day and All the Night" paved the way for the heavy riffing of later rock years. Their masterpiece era was actually after the hits were gone! From 1966-1970 essentially, years that they disappeared from all but England and some European countries. Commercially the Stones, Beatles, and Hermits were far more successful.

  • @maxjordan90 Of course they don't, and they were not just as important. But their music and unique style were still riveting! I have loved the Kinks and The Zombies since their beginnings.

  • so pure

  • That's early punk rock!

  • I wish this video could take on a life of it's own and kill American Idol.

  • @schultz970 AMEN!!!!

  • rock n roll

  • telecaster SABE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Que hermosa cancion, da para escucharla mil veces consecutivamente, hasta q te estalle la cabeza...

  • I can rember driving in my 1948 Dodge with my deeeluxe car radio cranked up No worries then.

  • 240p for pro's!

  • the kinks are my knew favorite band

  • GIRL I WANT TO BE WITH YOU ALL OF THE TIME XD

  • NiRvAnA Influences ???? :P

  • @rockmedina exactamente eso parece se oye igual el inicio de la guitarra tan crudamente como la solia tocar kurt cobain

  • Just as good as a Beatles song from this era and I am diehard Beatles fan!

  • Yes.

  • 137 believers :/

  • forevaaaar

  • Yep, saw Ray in Atlanta last week, it was great. As I told the person next to me, I could have listened to him for hours on end.

  • Just say Ray D. do a show in Indianapolis last weekend. Excellent show. Excellent memories. RIP Pete Q. Thanks.

  • @indiana1fats that was a nice thing to say. Sorry to hear about Peter Quaife. He was surely a great bass player, and an underestimated member of a great band.

    Brings back great memeries-

He was on dialyses for a long time--

Drinking? He was quite the cartoonist. Lived in Denmark, Canada, and returned to England-

    Born in Devon?

  • This was written the same year the Beatles did, "I want to hold your hand", how far ahead of the time was this noise. Truly Genius!

  • @VerticalSandwich

You want noise by the Beatles?

Try "Leave my kitten alone" recorded on august 14, 1964.

"I saw her standing there" 1962 is another good example they could rock well.

  • @LUGDO123 WTF?

  • RIP Pete Quaife. Awesome bassist, and proto-mod.

  • lol sensual girl here just for you baby

  • There's a fatigue and sadness found in this song I share with the millions of listeners who never heard the full range of its sounds, no matter how intently we focussed. We danced and swung around, holding one another before letting go, never grasping the frequencies that animated the other dancers. We were as good as lost, knowing only the rhythm and the meaning of the lyrics, never moving beyond them to sounds that were echoing like solar winds on a distant planet.

  • Dave fumbles a chord and realises his mistake. HA! Proves this was really live too.

  • hihi Hey guys, come see what the girl next door has in store for ya

  • proper heavy metal!

  • since in the laetieeeeest 70`s, first time heard, i remember this song,, and the same tape quality..yeah

  • in someadays realised the scorpions version of the song its to great!!!:)

  • @LEO400ify Please don't compare bands, that's just childish. And you just don't insult The Kinks, they are legends.

  • Comment removed

  • oh, i always thought this was by the stranglers. its good to know!

  • this is the greatest thing EVER!!!!

  • weren't there any male "rock'n'rollers" ?

  • найкрутейшая

  • Long live The Doors and The Beatles!!!! The kinks are gay!!!

  • @LEO400ify Beatles>Everyone

  • Fuck me, is that Torres on drums?!??

  • @Dandroid5000 It's Mick Avory.

  • punk rock old school god father

  • wtf is ray davies hair doing? lol

  • Not sure why the lead singer is holding a guitar. His guitar does not appear to significantly contribute to the sound.

  • Sounds like Hello i love you from the doors ;-)

  • @Luggichani the doors song was made in 1967, this here by the kinKs is from 1964 !

So it's the kinks original .

  • @Luggichani The Doors admitted to stealing alot of there sounds from various artists including Ray Charles and James Brown. :-)

  • I love this band, Ray Davies your my hero !!!!

  • Hello I love you ;)

  • @dimitriew086 the dorrs song was made in 1967 !! this here by the kinks is from 1964 !

  • very nice song...........................

  • Phenomenal.

  • Timeless.

  • Dave Davies was 18 here.

    Guitar god.

  • Everybody I have known has made the same error as at the 1:08 mark when playing this song. Digital tuners and locking nuts for guitars were great inventions for guitarists to stay in tune!

  • Davie is Cute!!!!!

  • his face at 1:08 after he grabbed a chord to high.

  • @jks2 nice catch

  • @jks2 :)) ha ha...the beauty of live music!

  • @jks2

I thought we was tweaked out on this video. He not only went a fret-high, but he muffed hell out of the solo.

  • @mnpd007

Their musicianship (such as it was) wasn't the point. They were social satarists bordering on royal anarchy.

  • @grabit1

    That was "satirists."

  • @mnpd007 like you would have got right , right?

  • wow. Thanks for Sharing... I love it!!!!

  • This is what I call music. Thanks for posting this classic.

  • THE KINKS! i love you!!

  • hrm I look like star!I have big eyes with love inside

  • Great song! If the bass was any higher it would be a neck brace. Very 60's!

  • Ha ha, the guitar player messed up at 1:06. This is a damn good band!

  • haha i remember when i was 5 and 6, id came out by my radio for a kinks, chuck berry, ventures or buddy holly song to come!!!! the kinks have always been one of my favorites

  • Havin' a Rave Up!!!

  • they put the rock in rock n' roll...ahead of their time...

  • IMO Inventoors of Metal

  • Boo

  • What year is this video

  • I play bass in my school band and we do this song.

  • ... and 20 years from now the kids from this generation are going to hate the new crap their kids are listening to.

  • Jesus Christ. There are some good musicians from this generation, but the radio stations only really play the same mainstream, shitty artist all the damn time. Don't degrade this generation.

  • Y do they have their Guitars so high???

  • @rockout4life1 because the guitar makes the best lead singer in this song, this version rocks.

  • Dave Davies.

  • I think Mike Myers took his Austin Powers costume inspiration straight from Ray Davies here lol. But I love it and I think he's totally awesome and adorable!!! The Kinks rock!!!!

  • I luv this song but they can't sing worth a damn lol

  • @pinkfloyd0112

Have you listened to every song of the past 10-20 years? No? Than how can you, a 13 year old, know the absolute objective truth about all modern music? The answer is you dont. it's fine not like something, but to make such claims about an entire era of music is just childish(which is to be expected from a 13 year old i guess)

I used to be like you, and i know arguing with you will be useless, because of how hard you have closed your mind. hopefully you'll grow out of it soon.

  • aaaaaahhhhhh....The Doors was very crafty!!!

  • The poor audience... This was probably the very first time that a lot of them had been exposed to true Rock N Roll LIVE. A drug all by itself. The Kinks RULE!!

...especially for that name of the band that they must have talked the censors into allowing!

  • These poor people had never been exposed to that sheiite before. They will forever live in glory!

  • One of the smokin'est rock songs ever

  • Ray looks like Austin Powers.

  • I want a 60s Precision Bass! :(

I want it sooo bad! :(

  • Very very cool! Kinks rocked! @smooth_bob

  • Punk as fuck!

  • best guitar sound ever!!! today's guitar sounds are generic and sound the same.

  • oh man. the kinks are the most criminally under-rated brit rock band in history. ray davies is a genius. this from an old, old beatle freak. rock on, boys.

  • @robertbatterson Without a doubt, The Kinks are under-rated. Why do American kids get exposed to the Doors and the Kinks are rarely even mentioned? Shame on us. (Man, the Doors had me fooled for a couple of years! Sorry.)

  • @iamian314 The Doors are better than The Kinks, but I agree that more people should know about The Kinks

  • @robertbatterson agreed

  • oh would people shut the fuck up about music today being shit. it is not. pop music today may be shit but that doesn't mean good music isn't being made. just get off your lazy asses and find it, it is out there. and please stop ruining every video of a song made pre 2000 with this faux-nostalgia for the past. know what they didn't have in the 60's???? YOUTUBE! so you couldn't just listen to any track from any period at any time that suited you.

  • kinks are up there with the beatles

  • Gosh, I had momentarily forgotten how many good songs are theirs!

  • rock' roll power!!!!

  • First Punk-Rockers?

  • so glad i'm 17 and love REAL music ... i wish i could travel in time and discover the 60's in a VW Beatle

  • Wild guitar solo for 1965!

  • i just got to get me a pair of winklepickers

  • I found a problem with this video, there a dislike button here. That's wrong.
