You mention that your monofin is a medium (stiffness); but it seems rather hard/stiff in the video. Is there a difference in stiffness between monofins and dual fins?
Holly shit.........his abs must be burning red-hot after he finished that! Though I haven't tried a mono-fin and don't know how hard it is with good technique.....
Wow! I can't believe I saw this sooner!! I've been free diving for two years now And I can only make it 100m with a monofin, and even then, barely!! Congrats man! I hope someday I can do that too!
I don't really understand how that neck thingy works. Is it to breathe out the air under water in small steps or is it to get the air into the lungs in small steps before diving?
this makes me believe that I will get to swim with dolphins underwater for a long time.... I have allready started my journey into the world of apnea freediving I have got the book "Manual of freediving" underwater on a single breath, and im loving it.. I am still far from my goal But i shall persevere.
You are right - almost! The fin is a Waterway Mod 2 in medium. Foot pocket 260 mm for my EUR size 43, which means that it is VERY tight!!! I would like to see some of the the top guys of today doing 200m with a fin like this and a neck weight of 1,8 kg hehe ;-)
My first neckweight was only 970g - the first of its kind in Denmark ;-) From what the weight of the neckmeights are now, it seems like a hundred years ago...
i think it's unfair to be said human ability. he was assisted by the fin. but it's remarkable tho. he made it about 2mins dolphin kicks underwater. he might able to do this for 100m i suppose??
@faisal2401 If u are suggesting that it is a fake, I will take it as a compliment ;-)
As I have stated before, the video is made out of photage from two days - you might also have noticed that there is sun in the uw shots and not from the video taken from the edge of the pool. The reason for this is that the video would be VERY boring, if it just showed from above the surface - and like this it also gives a better view of the swimming looking at it from the uv-photage.
If one retrains an automatic breathing pattern so that to breathe only 3-4 breaths per minute (e.g., during sleep), the maximum breath hold will be about 7-9 minutes since it is the unconscious breathing that defines body oxygenation. Most free divers have about 2-3 min for max apnea and only few are able to change their breath down to 3-4 breaths per min at rest. For more info search for "Buteyko Table of Health Zones". Learning the Buteyko method will help to get there.
@PeterPedersen I know that the records are over 10 min. I mean that it is the way the person breathes 24/7 (unconsciously) that matters most for long or maximum breath holds. If you find "Buteyko Table of Health Zones", you will understand.
Amazing performance. Bravo! What is that you are doing with your mouth just after taking your last big breath and just before you dive? It looks like you're swallowing air (I'm guessing I'm wrong though)
You are very close! The thing Im doing with my mouth is called packing. It is a way of forcing more air into the lungs. Using this technique gives me around 1 L of extra air.
@Arturas12 DON'T try packing unless you have been taught how to- if you do it wrong you could rupture your lungs. Easy way to hold breath longer, just search 'expand-a-lung' on google, you'll add a minute on after a few hours with it. :)
Has anyone got tips from where I need to start with apnea maybe a link to a good site, Id really appreciate it because I have no freediving in my town and I would like to learn it
I was a swimmer at British level and my max without fins and equipment was 50 meters one length is that any good? like no where near the distance of you but do you need natural ability or is it something you can train? also what should you train speed or amount of breath you can hold because the faster you go the more energy is lost so more blood gets pumped round the body. so what is it better to do swim slower but for longer or faster for a shorter period of time?
Hi everyone, I will take lessons to swim with a monofin and I want to know if it more easier to do a long distance with a monofin rather than normal fins?
(Sorry for my bad english, it's not my first language)
I think that the video would be better as a one shot. The impression of the feat in its entirety is lost by the continual cutting away. Better to cover the dive with an elevated long shot which shows the dive in its entirety. This a problem with a lot of the videos of dynamic apnea in my opinion.
Thanks for the video - sublime style.
