  • Brent!

  • I was at the Big A in Anaheim for this show which was part of the Dylan/Dead tour, The Dead backed up Bob Dylan and Dylan played in the 3rd set , there was lots of Heads at this show about 70,000 in big L. A. it was great you could get, I took about 4-5 trips to the outfield where the stage was, it was packed lots of dancing, great show but there is no Dylan on the view/vault 2, I guess Dylan wouldn't sign something

  • Took me a while to go back to a show with out Brent. His voice always resonated with my soul. Missing you!

  • Brent had the magic ..Class of 85..

  • R.I.P. Brent 21 years today....where does the time go....

  • @mandingowarriors I was at a Furthur show on 7/26/11 and they played this tune with a picture of Brent on the screens! RIP!

  • Brent, what a voice..Sweet as sin... ty

  • ...I think of Brent and I cry.

  • someone said "there is nothin like a grateful dead concert" I wasnt a huge fan but I'll agree their concerts were something

  • Poor Candy! where u been, girl? I'm 54, saw them first time at Roosevelt Stadium in 1972 'n never stopped! Very uncool and upsetting when I found out (ugh) Mt. Girl is into Satanic Cults. Not Jerry, but he said he saw them come out of the woodwork like cockroaches.

  • @TheElissaS ...Garcia never said such a thing. Carolyn was his wife and he never ever said a word against her. Prove it. I was in Roosevelt Stadium that day.

  • I love this song so much. Brent's vocals just made it soar into the stratosphere. Good stuff.

  • I was there! Brent was awesome, evrybody -& everything- was awesome!

But Brent was very cool, he wa amazing at the Seva shows too. Miss...it all...

    thanks for the memories!

  • Even though I am 54, I didn't listen to the Dead until about 2004. This is my second favorite song of theirs and I think I am in love with Phil. Only took me decades to listen to the lyrics. I love words. You rock Grateful Dead.

    Peace,

    candy

  • brent was a true tribute to the band his voice magical and man can he play crazy fingers

  • Tons of steel is one of my favorite song only because it has brent doing a fantastic job on main vocals and phil coming in at the perfect time doing the backup vocals. watching and listening to the crow go nuts as phil joins brent in singing gives me a feeling that far surpasses anything else this world has to offer.

brent was definitely the best keyboardist the dead ever had, and its videos like this that show why.

  • Phil's vocal rocks....looks like he *really* meant it

  • That is a great solo by a refreshed Jerry!

  • oh man, listen to Phil! not bad at all!

  • awful just awful.i sadly witnessed one of these at the rosemont horizon.took the enegy right out of the show .i thought i was at a bob segar show..

  • @racsans Screw you. RIP Brent.

  • awful just awful.i sadly witnessed one of these at the rosemont horizon.took the enegy right out of the show .i thought i was at a bob segar show..

  • was there in front fun like that doesn't happen anymore

  • Gotta love that Bobby is wearing a Madonna t-shirt... LOL!

  • #1 Brent... man wow... MADE the 80's the best "Dead-Era" in my opinion...

#2 Brent and Phil sharing vocals is priceless...thanks for that....

#3 Effin Bob... wearing a "Madonna" T-shirt..... lol, what an ass....

  • @artsmith1972 I Agree With Everything. I thought His Shirt Said Monroe.!

  • @artsmith1972 3 Brent Mydland was the 80's

  • brent was the best on the keys

  • That was a phat solo by Jerry!

'87 REALLY was a great year.

  • Brent and Phil on vocals there for a bit. thats special

  • Thanks for sharing this video, i just loved Brents voice and soulfulness. This is one of my all time favorite dead tunes. Amazing video too. Who knew Phil was singing the backups on it!

  • Lappin it up. So very yummi!

  • brent rocking it .....great tune!!!!

  • That's a fucking beard.

  • @tabber87 haha right on!

  • Was this from one of the Veiw From The Vaults?

  • I bet if Brent lived on, He would of formed his own band and it would be called Tons Of Steel. Hopefully it would just be a side project.

  • @gtz1975 he was in the go a heads with billy playing small bars

  • @minnesotabobby I wonder if any of those shows were taped...

  • was there thank you for letting me relive a great moment of time

  • What i would do to get a little needlepoint and see a dead show back in those days.

  • For one or another reason, Jerry's solos on this tune were some of his very best, imho.

  • I was there in a toga.

  • phil too!!!

  • out of control

  • I loved Brent, was so happy when he got on board,Loved his Voice, his playing his Look, his energy way more then Keith,I was at this show thanx For the memorey, R.IP, Brent

  • I was AT THIS Show thanks FOR posting this,,ALSO Bobby and Brent did get along AND I REALLY Loved When he came on Board HIS sINGING AND PLaying,,I dug him way more then when Keith was with the band,,R.I.P...BRENT

  • bugeyes455858 Great to enjoy some of Brent's contributions to the GD,,,love this song and it goes to show the talent we lost when we lost Brent. RIP Brent...thanks for the memories.

  • jerry loved playing Brent songs :)

  • Brent came from Bobby's band "Bobby and the Midnites" and Bobby brought him into the Dead, so I severely DOUBT they did not get along.

  • hhmm..good to know. thank you

  • did brent and bob not get along??

  • nice shirt bob

  • a few things I notice. jerry's not all there, brent's singing his heart out, and bobby's not tryin cuz he's jealous:p

  • nah it's just because it's brent's song, they're leaving it to him. just like box of rain was phils and quite a few songs were left for bobby

  • i totally forgot about this song, i love that! good stuff here, my favorite on the keys for gd

  • I know Brent "Midi-land" gets a lot of flack, but man, I sure loved his voice. Jerry's voice could occasionally be magical, and so could Bob's, but I really do think Brent had the best voice in the band. And maybe I'm just a pop guy instead of a blues guy, but I also think Brent's songwriting was totally underrated.

  • ya in the dark is one of my favorite albums i have, but i'd have to say my number one favorite is trukin up to buffilo! if they had a album for Alpine Valley Music Theater1989 that would be a favorite but they dont

  • i was at this show

  • not bad at all

  • Happy Birthday Brent.

  • #1 Brent... wow- "in my opinion" he brought the most to the band of all the guys to sit at the boards.... GREAT singing voice, and he rocked the boards.

    #2 yes lol @ Bob's madonna shirt.. WTF dude !! ??

#2 Damn Bob's short shorts.... if they were any shorter his sack would be hangin out one side....

#3 and most importantly- thanks a bunch to the people who continue to put up clips and videos of the boys in action so i can get a fix when i need it... God-damn i miss seeing these shows live
