  • This was sooooooo great Live in '94 with Satriani.

  • sadfghjkiujyhgtrfedsdfg sorry i was wiping my jizz off the keyboard

  • Man, his fingers are very tough!!! If I play like that, my fingers would start aching like fuck in a few minutes

  • @metalballs2010 Not minutes, but seconds!!! And my left hand can't move like that without the help of picks, fingers or thumbs, I think I need to do more workouts

  • Could some one please post the tabs for this? I cant find them anywhere

  • @Mr12tiki He probably just figured it out, without tabs.

  • I've always loved this tune by Guaraldi and Hamm does a great job in the arrangement and exhibits tremendous technique. Clearly he has a mastery of the instrument although not perfect but that is the human element. Don't forget a lot of the "perfect" performances one hears are the result of multiple takes or compilations of the best of several takes. He should be admired for his demonstrated artistry and promotion of the bass guitar as a primary instrument. How do I get off this soap-box now?:-)

  • godlike guitar's birth was sloppy

  • Yeah well every master of their craft is scrutinized more diligently, than say, some nerd on YouTube who comments on other people's playing. It's a lot like some guy with a small penis being a bully. Only in this instance, it's the disparity between how well Stu plays and their lack of such talent they are trying to overcompensate for...I mean, GodlikeGuitar for a screen name what a self-aggrandizing moron

  • @allnightjohnson And even if GodlikeGuitar COULD play it at all, Stu still did it first. The arrangement, figuring out HOW to pull it off exactly. There are quite a few considerations beyond just the technical ability to play the piece.

    Just my two cents.

  • @scuzzbopper5150 I agree. I think this thread is a good illustration the difference between the purest mindset vs. just enjoying the performance. Were I able to top this performance ( I'm nowhere close), it wouldn't mean that I would be obliged to critique.

  • i think i just shit myself

  • What a fucking beast

  • Legend, master, influence, Stu Hamm rock!

  • absolutely great.

  • Wow! Dig it!

  • This was quite good, Anyone who says this is bad should try it themselves.

  • I've seen this guy at a bass clinic and he was absolutely AMAZING! You go boy!

  • I've seen this guy at a bass clinic and he was absolutely AMAZING! You go boy!

  • Stu's got some mad camel toe going on.

  • @audiolabguy no shit! thanks for pointing that out... i couldn't get it out of my minds eye LOL

  • if any of you could do better bring it on

  • come on people this guys playing bass give some credit

  • it is a little sloppy but some times thats what you get with finger tapping it was verery good though

  • bass and drums always go together. but bass is the distant yet close relative of the piano.

  • So legit

  • My god, that's pathetic!!!

  • any douche that dislikes this should get a bass and make a video of themselves playing this and see what people would say. stu hamm is the best bass player period! fuckin noobs!

  • @TheBeastFrom941 +1 you should have 2 brains to play this like he does

  • @TheBeastFrom941 Dam I can't even do it on piano;

  • @TheBeastFrom941 Hey man, don't forget Flea. This guy is good, too, but Flea is a genius. ♥

  • yea, i agree the sound is choppy on some parts but in general the technique was great- not that many people are into 2 hand taping on bass to begin with - so this is really good, and keep in mind this is an old recording of this performance- for all we know Stu probably was having an off day that day,

--and yes after years of playing the same song repeatedly i guess his present day performance of this do sound better then this original...duh..lol

  • Well I wouldn't say it's very good or moving music, but it sure is a cool party trick.

  • awesome

  • he looks like michael anthony

  • @Bambiraptor0 In 1985.

  • great

  • he's playing the peanuts theme song on a freakin 4 string people, i've seen it done not quite as good on an 11 string (jean Baudin) so i say stfu.

  • He did great job. Looks like it's hard to do. Please take the goodpersontestdotcom. :)

  • 15 people are ranned over pedestricles.

  • rhythm and lead bass^^

  • I saw him play this live 20 or so years ago while he was playing for Joe Satriani. Amazing guy to watch play bass live.

  • I like Stu Hamm, and have a few of his albums, but this was definitely sloppy...not his best performance.

  • dude you are officially on the same level as Flea!!!!!!!!!!!!

    INCREDIBLE

  • Stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!

    Seeing this live is awesome!

  • not really his best moments...

    :-((

  • mno e yako bravo

  • stu hamm tought me to play bass!!

  • @MrElement4 You lie!

  • a human piano

  • best minute and 16 sec. of my freaking life.

  • stu hamm rocks dude. anyone on stage with satch is a top notch musician.

  • Impressive.

  • The tempo is terrible and the playing is choppy. I've seen Stu doing much better things.

  • jason newsted played it better

  • should be on a fretless. Would sound 10 times better...just my opinion

  • haha. I own this video. Man he plays really bad in general throughout the VHS. I know he is a lot better. Wonder if he had something troubeling his mind that made him do so many mistakes.

  • Garota de Ipanema?

  • hes not human.

    hes from planet SATRIANI.

    he was. then he left-

  • wooow!

I wish I could do something like that with my bass!

    simply brilliant.

I love "Linus and Lucy" and I love tapping technique. So, I DO love this.

  • I think it's funny as hell. I'm not doggin' it. Sounds hilarious.

  • 4 string guitar ,<3

  • @HahItsNing No.

  • Briliant

  • thats pretty cool

  • Never forget seeing him in Joe Satriani's band in the early 90s. He played this in a much more extended solo, and the crowd went nuts!

  • I love it!...but to be honest it is a bit sloppy. Stu is much cleaner now and cranking out even better tunes!

  • If you think it's sloppy, let's see you do better. Oh, you can't. Next.

  • i think he ment sloppy for him (stu)

  • this is damn awesom, doen someone has any tab of this song?

  • i dont like it buy very good

  • That was (pea)NUTS!!!

  • No kidding. Anybody who thinks this isn't awesome is on crack.

    WhelanBass just got sonned.

  • Comment removed

  • @c0nvex I know, right?

  • bravo! this is rad

  • YOU'RE the moron. Stu is a god on bass. For you to bash on his "tone" and "sloppy playing" ("sloppy"?! Really? Yeah right) is just hating. Let's see you play a better version. There is nothing sloppy about this. An engineer would have taken care of the sloppy playing if that were the case.

  • wow i didn't recognize stu. he was a lot younger

  • amazing

  • Haha, i have the original VHS tape!

  • He's a fuckin beast.. My dad can do this pretty well check out his band.. there video on here is called casualty breaking me.. its all the same band members they just have a new singer now.. check them out on myspace too look up Casualty

  • Omg he's good!!!

  • haha i fuckin think thats sweet

  • All you haters know you wish you could do this.

  • all you people who are saying this piece was "sloppy" or "bad timing" or whatever piss me off... its like your trying to find something bad about this guy. i thought it was a great minute and 17 seconds of my life. lol

  • @RSPbassman Not at all. A lot of us like this guy. But this is not a good example of his work, unfortunately. Listen, I like slop and grit in my music, but the first 20 or 30 seconds or so are, well, very rough, and not in a good, punk sort of way.

  • @RSPbassman Lets see all the people who complained about it do a better job...? This was an excellent piece!

  • @RSPbassman he does go off time a few times but im not as good at tapping

  • @RSPbassman relax

  • @RSPbassman Well it was sloppy LOL

  • @GodlikeGuitar I'll bet it would take you a lifetime to play bass like that. If you can do better, then you're justified to talk shit, if you cant (we all know you cant), then you need to start taking lessons and stay off the net. FAKE!

  • sweetest bass song ever

    awesome!!!!

  • don't like the tone of his bass but his technique is crazy!

  • I agree. His red sparkly bass sounds much better.

  • ive never seen anyony use 2 hand tapping on bass before- this is awesome

  • Ok lets c some of u who dont think this is osm lets c u crack ur bass out and do better bet u cant

  • do a search for Stu's "Quahogs Anyone?" from The Urge. You'll hear this as it was meant to be played.

  • dude doesnt know what a metronome is

  • This actually IS sloppy, but you have to understand the context of the video. It was just a demo at the beginning of a bass instructional video, it was never intended as a performance piece. The intended audience was a VERY small section of people who bought the old instructional videos out of guitar magazines in the early-mid 80's. If the producers of the video and Stu could forsee the future and know such a thing as Youtube would exist, they would have spent more time on the recording.

  • Actually, it's NOT sloppy. You're an idiot. Stu Hamm is god. If you can do so much better, let's see your fucking version. Moron.

  • Reading is hard for you, isn't it?

  • How old is this video? The reason I ask is I remember someone doing this on a PBS special around 1973 or '74. I was just out of kindergarden and the ability to do this is what amazed me. Even with the timing issues, This is one helluva performance.

  • Comment removed

  • and?

  • wow thats amazing

  • Tapping is so sweet. My bass teacher took lessons from stu hamm!

My teacher is dale titus if anyone know who he is.

  • go stu! lol

  • he has a little timing issues but nothing super serious

  • you guys are all fagots for insulting him when you will never ba as good as him. EVER!

  • You all say this is sloppy, but it's not. You've obviously never been to a recording studio. They would just engineer out all the sloppy playing. If you think this is sloppy, let's see your version!

    Stu = God

  • Let's see you do better. Oh, that's right -- you can't. Shut up, you faggot.

  • Comment removed

  • It's not called criticism. It's called unbridled jealousy. You're just upset because you can't do this. Stu Hamm is one of the greatest bassists to ever play the instrument. Knock it off. If you could do better, you wouldn't have to sit and denigrate his bass playing for no reason.

By the way, Stu Hamm is hardly mainstream. This is experimental music at its finest. Go play your bad pop riffs and stay off of this part of the internet, moron.

  • @WhelanBass945

I agree. It is quite sloppy. I'm in no way trying to insult any of his fans by saying that, but you have to admit that he could have cleaned up the right hand a bit.

With that being said, Stu is nontheless amazing, him AND his technique!

  • Comment removed

  • That is a shame. Either they got him on a bad day or he has cleaned up so much in the past few years. In the all the other videos of him he is an awsome Bass Player.

  • chicken shit

  • I have to agree with EliasMohr ... I've seen Stu live many times and this is one of the worst performances of this I've seen him do :(

  • dude i just watched your version, it was horrible in comparison, Stu is playing both the bass line and the melody at the same time and you really need to work on the part Stu does at 0:32.

  • why not? its really the only way to play 2 part piano pieces.

  • Why does he play so sloppy in his intructional video? I love his work and he really never has any errors.. but this is oddd

  • beautiful.

  • That's one of the worst cases of squeezed testicles I've ever seen.

  • HAHAHA!! ...dude

  • he went too fast >.> other than that great job!

  • I played this checkout my vids

  • thats easy to do.. right? hehe ... right?.. well not really

  • its a pain in the ass haha.. just kidding if you practice it enough you can play anything

  • this dude is sisck

  • Check out RYAN FORRESTER play his unique version of "Linus and Lucy"...Amazing!

  • im pretty sure you cant do that so you should be quiet

  • lemonkidd44...WTF are you talking about? That was absolutely brilliant!

  • he was one of the bassists that revolutionised two hand tapping you ass

  • I have played bass for 40 years and never heard anything like this. Thank you for posting this inspiring little sample!

  • view my version of this

  • this guys hair is fucking awesome! am i the only person who noticed this?!

  • This is a great video.

Stu is a great bass player, and so many people now try to copy his version of this.

I finaly got down the first part of this, but it will probably take me a while to get the fast part down decent.

  • That's great, do you have tabs for this?

  • "Linus and Lucy" and the "Charlie Brown Theme" are two entirely different songs.

  • linus and lucky is the name of the charlie brown theme song. There is no song entitled "charlie brown theme".

  • sorry, disregard that last comment.

  • Sounds like there's a bit of "Brazil" thrown in there. I'm not sure if that was in the original or not.

  • You all say it's sloppy but have any of you actually been to a recording studio and had a sesson yourself? I doubt it.

IN a studi you are given many chances to get it right and for hard parts you play them on the fly and the engineer basically glues them together seemlessly.

SO his "Sloppy" playing won't be on the record as it will have been engineered out...

A player will always be different on stage to record...just look at Dragonforce for one LOL!

  • i agree, but i mean, honestly even though hes really good.. he is kind of sloppy.

that is giving him a break.

look at jaco or victor wooten or even gianni.

they are primarily just as clean on record as they are on stage.

  • I'm afraid I'm a big fan of Victor Wooten and have a few vids where he's sloppy. Everyone can be. His live versions of Classical Thump are rushed and he wolfs notes.

But everyone is human. WHen I play live I don't care cause your there to entertain the audience, as long as your good enough, missing a few notes doesn't matter...but in the studio it's tight due to concentration and unlimited tries.

But I only write what I can play, no overdubs.

    Even Jaco could get sloppy...

  • Thanks for the comment! It's nice to see something positive every now and then :)

  • Your telling me. Everyone is so negative these days...like they must be to prove something or summit...when really it's just out of order.

  • yeah they do get a little sloppy

its hard for me to understand a little bit also because i demand perfection from my own playing.

even though its far from perfect.

so if its sloppy to me.. i wont stop practicing untill its decent

  • I'm exactly the same only I get discouraged and just stop practicing for that sitting. I wish I had more drive when I can't do something.

  • @KongoXIIV So then it's fair to say that Mr. Hamm probably doesn't practice as much as he should. There are musical acts that exist that are properly rehearsed and sound the same live as they do on the album.

  • @armywalaby No, cause that's called "playing on auto pilot"...have u heard the story about a certain legendary guitarist who threw both his shoes at someone for doing this?

I've seen some of the greatest acts played like a human, not a machine, and I do love a degree of mistakes...If I wanted to hear the album Id play the album.

It's about performing, and putting your own flavour into it, not playing on auto pilot.

I see others agree with me.

  • @KongoXIIV anyways, i don't see why should mistakes be loved. in terms of interpretation, musicians have a wide range of tools that are not necessarily messing up, and make the playing experience less "autopilotic". don't take me wrong, i recognise this guy is a pretty talented bassist and it's good at what he does

  • @volantist

if your any type of musician youd appriciate it for what its worth.

please i ask of you, cover this and lets see how well you do my friend. i play 8 instruments, and i couldnt do that on one.

  • actually it is pretty sloppy, no disrespect to him but you can find other vids on youtube that are cleaner versions

  • is that a short scale bass the frets look close together

  • it might be. He probably has stubby hands, so he got smaller frets. Well. I have giant hands and I want a small scale bass, but in any case, it would certainly help with tapping.

  • my basses are screwed up in sizes I got 1 that tiny and another one that Giant, I am 5'7 and the big bass comes up to my chest from my stand

  • that shit is so sloppy

  • shutup retard, it sounds awesome

  • id like to see you do it

  • compared to some of the other stuff he does, it is kinda sloppy though.

  • 20+ yrs. ago here friend
