After WW2, and after all the Japanese have gone out from Taiwan, Taiwanese were able to manage their own democratic country by themselves, until Chiang Kai-shek has invaded Taiwan.

@tailanle1 you may or may not know this but the treaty of san francisco in 1952 between japan and the u.s.a. gave the u.s.a. total jurisdiction of taiwan. the japs surrendered all claims to the u.s.a. the r.o.c. accepted the japs surrender of occupation in 1945. but that doesnt consitute national sovreignty. the p.r.c. would be stupid to attack the r.o.c.. since the u.s. has legal jurisdiction over taiwan. as per the treaty, and international law. it would be like attacking the u.s. as well.
its important to remember the KMT want unification after they have retaken china first from the communists. sure the KMT and chiang kai shek werent great when they arrived in taiwan, but they were no where near as bad as the communists and eventually the KMT introduced liberalism and democracy and that is reflected in taiwan being an economic powerhouse today.
chiang kai shek is an important part of taiwan's history and airbrushing him is useless. the good things are always overlooked.
I am pro-independence of Taiwan, though I accept that Chiang Kai-Shek's KMT regime was brutal at times, then again so are all authoritarian rulers. He was however no where near as bad as Mao and the communists on the mainland and he was instrumental into turning Taiwan into a more modernised country.
He is part of the past of the island and we just have to accept that - we live in the modern day now and I advocate peace.

Also America is China's biggest costumer so they aren't going to do shit themselves. Hell Tawian is an independant country since it governors it's own affairs not bothering to get China's approval. The only reason China keeps up the facade of Tawain belonging to them is to save face.

If they didn't, China would be in a better relationship with America, more prosperous, and citizens would be able to elect their leader :) However we are connected by blood, art and culture. @HinataHyuuga13 I disagree with you on that. i know communist party is evil, but the reason US hates china not because china's communist, because china is an economic threat to the US. the US treated japan badly too (take toyota for example), because japan is also an economic threat to china.
the US is using taiwan to make china fall, if china falls, japan will fall too since japan got materials from china. and if US succeed, they wouldn't treat taiwan any better than they treated japan in WWII
