  • @pumpitdj One K10 will work alright. What you'll find though is it will be a little hot for the people close to the speaker, and pretty weak for guests on the opposite ends. It's more work, but the sound is much better with one on each side.

  • Very informative vids you put up thx. Just hope QSC isnt a sponsor lol.

  • @spellous120 Nah, I just tried to dig in a little deeper to DMT and share what I learned.

  • Rick your reviews on these speakers have been helpful to me. I did purchase K12's with 2 k2subs to upgrade my old jbl eon g2's 15s def like the sound and weight.. thanks again 5 stars.

  • @djfrankieg Glad the videos have been helpful for you Frankie, I really appreciate it. Don't forget to check out agiprodj for gear as well, as I do a lot of stuff with them too. Thanks for watching...

  • Hey...Its me again...;)) Have you ever seen new Behringer B815NEO

DSP-Controlled 1,200-Watt 15" PA Speaker and EUROLIVE B1800D-PRO Active 1400-Watt 18" PA Subwoofer????? What do you think about them??? They seem to be stronger then QSC...??

  • @liptoneron I have not yet seen or heard the Behringers. Overall, that brand seems to be a good value. It's a tough comparison to the K-Series though because the K-Series has no 15" or 18" speakers. Now when the KW series launches, then that will be a more fair comparison, matching like-sized drivers. I believe Behringers have a 1-year warranty. QSC is 6. That's something to consider. That makes QSC more valuable for the life of the cabinet. I would bet $100 that K-series sound better though.

  • I just bought 2 K12's. Worth every penny. thanks for the info.

  • Hi two ? Do you use the K Sub and what sub has the deepest bass the Ksub or the HPR from QSC also love your vids thanks for helping they helped me get my bussniss started

  • Hi-glad you've found the videos helpful. I do use the KSubs, in fact I've got a video coming on those so stay tuned. If we consider "deepest' bass to be that with the lowest frequency, then the HPR series definitely gets you the lowest (with the HPR181i at 39Hz). However, in a smaller venue with the KSubs on the DEEP setting you get a surprisingly nice full sound. It really comes down to the type and size of events that you do.

    Thanks for watchin'...

  • Rick,

I know you used Mackie products in the past and did a couple videos on 1801 subs etc.

Would you recommend the SRM 450s to someone who could not afford the QSC K12s?

    Thanks

  • Great question. I'll send you a message directly

  • Rick,

I would also like to hear your oppinion on the SRM 450s for those who cannot afford the qsc k 10/12s

  • I used Mackie's for a long time (and still have several). The 450's are outstanding, sound good, and are lightweight. You'll get different opinions between the original 450's and the v2 version, as well as the originals made in Italy vs. not. But overall they perform well and sound great. Out of 6 450's that I own, I had technical issues with two of them, but Mackie stands behind their stuff very well. QSC does offer 6 years on the warranty so they will be worth more if you go to sell them.

  • Rick... I am a solo fingerstyle acoustic performer who also sings some songs. A couple questions from someone who is a real novice: How does the bass of the k8 compare to k12? How is the sound of a single cab for music in a small coffee shop environment? Would a pair of k8 (no sub) sound lacking in bass? Would a pair of k8 + subs work for a rock band, or would you need 12s?

  • K8's are PERFECT for what you do in the coffee shop. A pair of K8's run in DEEP mode would sound fantastic, and after the fact you could always go in and add the KSub later. Remember, the K8's are perfect for smaller venues that don't go out very far and are spread out, because they have the biggest coverage pattern of all the K-Series at 105 degrees. As for the rock band, the K8's really crank, but think about your throw distance and width. K10's or 12's may be more appropriate. Thanks!-Rick

  • Thank you sir! Please forgive the ignorance, but how does one of these cabs sound? Is the sound really mono if you don't have 2? Thinking of gradually buting stuff: 1-8 plus DI box small mixer and effects, another 8, subs, add pair of 12s for bands as needs change. I see this as an expandable system rather than something to outgrow. Can one cab sound good or do I need to start w/ 2- 8s.

  • You're right, the K-Series are extremely versatile and expandable to so many types of events. One speaker will sound great as long as you make sure the coverage pattern matches that of your audience, and that the cabinet is mounted properly up high vs low. If using one speaker, just make sure you send both the L and R mixer outputs to the speaker. You still end up with just a single source output, but you at least have the full representation of both channels reproduced.

  • hi nice video Whats the max amount of people can you play for with a pair of K 12's on deep mode with no subs???

  • Sorry it took me some time to get to your question. I answered it on the other K-series video. Thanks for checking them out!

    Rick

  • Great video!

Can you tell me what subs you use with it? I continue to hear great things about the K12, but have heard people saying the ksub doesn't produce enough bottom and apparently can rattle at high volumes!? Cheers

  • Hey Kirk-I use KSubs or HPR181i's depending on the event. For larger ones (i.e. over 100 people or so, or big venues, etc) I go with the 181's, as the KSubs just can't handle the big stuff, that is true. I will have some KSub application videos coming, so stay tuned. I'm one of those "gotta have 2 of everything guys" and there are ways you can use 2 KSubs together at smaller events/venues to make them sound fantastic. Thanks for watchin'...

  • Great video. I've been hearing a lot of positive comments bout QSC-K series.

It makes sense that an 8" has more coverage than a 15". No wonder they use multiple 8" drivers in line array cabinets.

  • Rock on, Rick. I shall investigate these speakers as soon as I figure out where to find them! Thanks for your enthusiasm and sharing your experience with us!

    Casey

  • Yeah, this series has been very popular. Last I heard the K12's were back in stock from QSC Mid- to Late-November. I know agiprodj has 1 of them, not that that will necessarily help you though. Stay tuned for a few more K-series videos, it's an impressive line and there is still more to show! Thanks Casey,

  • How you resolve if you have a outdoor events without any power outlets? Will u bring ur old generator? will the generator get loud and polluted around the area? Usually how much equipment u will bring to a banquet event?...sorry a lot of questions at once, but you seem like the guy who can question directly. thank you!!!

  • Generators are occasionally necessary, if so, get them far away and run plenty of heavy 12ga extension cord. I'm one of those guys that takes tons of equipment to events, no matter what and a lot of it sits in the trailer as backup. At a minimum, have 2 speakers (on stands!) for a small-medium group of say less than 200 people, and possibly 4 for or more for larger events. Bring subwoofers too! Whatever you bring, make sure it sounds the best and looks the best that it can.

  • Thanks Rick, really help a lot!! I have few other question to ask if u dont mind? I'm starting to plan to get in Mobile Dj, since personally, I went to 10 wedding this years and out of 8 I have to help out the audio setup. Since friends starting to ask me to do a lot of their wedding (next year will have another 6+) I really wants to get in this industry but dont want to do unprofessional on the job. And also worry about the investment i going to make will not return. A lot of "what if"....

  • I planning to drop $2k to start investing on DJ equipments, The church I go to willing to sale their equipments all for $300 -$400 (2xyamaha 15" speakers, 1xJBL speaker, mackie 24 mixer, 2x500w amp, 4x speaker stand) They all 80% new bc they use it once a year for a rent location, other just sits there fro the rest of the year. All I need is mic and Dj equipments and some cables. But not sure what i missing to start that business....thanks for helping Rick.

  • Hi Thanks for sharing this great info.. With just a pair of K12's about how many people can you play for??What the maximum amount of people?

  • I wished I could budget in 2 K12's and 2 KSUBS. Unfortunately, I have other gear higher up on the totem pole that I need first. Great reveiw Rick!

    -Drew

  • Thanks Drew, that's always the challenge with what we do...which gear do we get NEXT! What are you in the market for??? Thanks for watching buddy!

    ~Rick

  • They do sound good. I checked them out in person.

I love it someone gets excited about techie stuff like I do.

  • great review!

i learn more from you then i do from the salesmen at my local gear shop trying to sell me the product lol

  • Glad you find it helpful! Thanks...

    ~Rick

  • You know, next to me, DJ Rick is the smartest DJ on YouTube ... LOL

    Kidding.

Rick, that was a terrific review, as usual. Every speaker I've ever played with does not match the horn with the woofer, so, the highs are lost when you're off axis, when you're out of the "sweet spot". I've always been a JBL customer, but your review is making me consider these QSCs. Just might have to add them to my Xmas list this year?

The word for the day is "intelligibility" ...

  • It's funny you would bring up JBL Vinnie, one of my earlier videos I was given a hard time by someone who said my Mackie's sucked, that JBL was the only way to go. I think that anyone that is not open to hearing a better speaker (no matter who makes it) is close-minded. To me, it makes perfect Intelligibility! Thanks for watchin as always Vinnie!

    ~Rick

  • Wow, what a great review on those speakers! And great explanations too! I've seen these speakers at the shop, and I heard them only once and was amazed. I like how compact and small they are but yet still blow most other larger speakers out of the water!

  • Could not have said it better. At the end of the day, we have to let our ears decide.

  • Excellent, but that doesn't mean they're neccersarily the best sounding for music etc.

I wonder which sound best overall out of the QSCs, Mackie HDs, and RCF 7 Series.

  • Since I'm a DJ, I actually do play music through them (go figure!). Put it this way, I use the same tracks to sound check a room. I hear details with the K-Series that I have never heard from other speakers. The Mackie HD series is an entirely different animal, sounds "OK" and is better suited for larger halls/venues with over a couple hundred people. The RCF's I have not heard, but are fantastic. You do reach a point where the more you spend on gear gets you smaller and smaller benefits.

  • Ha, I wasn't having a pop at you Rik, just querying the difference, as I haven't heard any of the 3 cabs.

I still can't understand the science behind 'smaller driver equals more room coverage' though, I would have thought it would be the other way round, but I'll just have to take their word for it.

  • QSC owes you a shirt/steak dinner or something...this testimonial is worth gold!!!
