We in Germany alway hear the complaints by our friends that the Bundeswehr should go to the south as well as there are the heavy fightings. But we wonder what was first egg or hen? Do we have in northern Afg. relative peace (German lives of soldiers also were lost on bombings etc.) because Bundeswehr doesn't behave like e.g. Americans? Or is there only a bit of taliban?

The French thought they could sit it out behind the Maginot Line. The French had as much heavy armor as the Germans but did not know how to utilize their tanks the way the Germans did. But yes, the French resistance must be complimented for their role in aidng the Normandy invasion.

There was no significant difference between german, french and British equipment and soldiers.

It was the tactics employed. The germans developed Blitzkreig warfare learning to co-ordinate between the forces well.

It all came down to tactics. It doesnt matter how well equipped you are if you don't know how best to use it to overcome your enemy.

Don't underestimate how much we (Americans) appreciate Canada's contribution to the war in AFG, Canadian troops are known for their valor in combat and My hat is off to those who have given their lives for a better tomorrow.
