A full HOWTO would be great! Twitter trends would be fun. Also adding a real time clock would be useful. How about News headlines from a RSS feed? Really cool project.
add "$i = get_file_contents('hits.txt'); file_put_contents(strval(intval($i)+1),'hits.txt');" to your website, and then download "/hits.txt" with the arduino :)
I would love a whole arduino school :P I know nothing about it. Can I program with a language liek C# or java on one? (I know the java part was stupid)
@ampix0 You program in C like. C# and Java are focus on virtual machines. I recommend that you buy a Duemilanove Arduino, a breadboard and some LEDs and resistors, and see some tutorials on web.
I did something similar with a 4U2SEE sign. It had ethernet built-in and I used the ADP (Advanced Display Protocol) to update the text. I have a PHP script that runs on a Ubuntu box that polls our web server and simply opens a socket to the sign to update it. I really like this arduino idea, because the non ethernet signs are a lot cheaper...
What about using a Sure 3216 display purchased new for about $30, I would love to see you interface this with an Ethernet shield. I have started to do this but lack confidence on the programming side, so far have scrolling text and real time room temp. Is it possible to read rss feeds standalone using the get command ? Managed to find an example of weather info from a text file
like the design.... I still have one of those signs, and it would be great to be able to post my stats, time and temp and get some use out of it again..
Cool project, as are all of your projects. I myself am fairly adept at arduino programming however i would really love a tutorial on PhP servers i.e How to get one started and how to use it / how it works. Thanks !

For facebook count, did you tried developers dot facebook dot com/docs/reference/api/user/ ?
xanokothe 2 months ago
@xanokothe Yeah, I was hoping to be able to do it without OAuth. It'll just take some time for me to set that up.
