What's with the singer slapping the bass strings with his fingers? Does it make some kind of different sound like that? I can't really tell from this song.
I'm a great great fan of L42 but I don't like this one... I think it's very very far from love games, heaven in my hands, something about you, lessons...etc...:( it was the end of L42:(((

Elizabeth Hurley and VOGUE magazine LIES deliberately. I would like to tell you a story about Elizabeth Hurley. Elizabeth Hurley and VOGUE LIES deliberately. Elizabeth Hurley and VOGUE LIES deliberately.
The only thing I would change about this song is the chorus since it throws off the mood of the song. The part leading up to the chorus is amazing nonetheless.
If I was asked what my all time favorite song is, I think I'd have to say this one. It's hard to pick an all time favorite. I can 'guarantee' that I will never get sick of this song. :D
Great band! I saw them open for Madonna's Who's That Girl Tour in Dallas, TX in 1987. Wow............things sure have changed since then, but that's another story.

Absolutely fantastic...tight percussion, on tempo funky bit with classic message--way ahead in terms of musicianship to many other "popular" pop producers in any era--especially today's stuff...these guys have mastered it!
level 42 they are the best and allways will stay the best i use to listen to them in my teenage time in algeria and when i move to canada few people know them
Unfortunately, the US only knew this band for Something about you and Lessons in Love. I live in the US and have listened to Level 42 for the last 20 years. They're awesome and should have destroyed our To 40 charts!
saw these guys at royal albert hall last year... they were superb live... i could see them play all day. still as good as when i first heard them in the 80s
It's sad to see this shit! I love this song, and I love Level 42. It's just something wrong to see the the NOT Level 42! This is just Mike and Mark doing a "suverän" song in swedish.... I miss the old Level! Suverän is Superb!
Allan left between recording the album and the filming of the video clip. Hence you can hear him, but you can't see him. Or at least that's what wikipedia tells me.
If you have never seen them live.. then go and see them.. they are awesome!! Saw them last night in London.. the crowd went wild. they played some recent and old tunes they are famous for.. it was a great night. 5 stars are not enough!!!
Special song for me. Loved L42 all my life but dissapointed with Staring at the sun album, thought it was rushed through in the studio and could tell with some tracks. This song picked up the pace again. Overtime was nice too.
I love this song as i loved the early ones, even if they changed their style of music. So what? Depeche Mode changed their style so many times since the 80's, and i love them since the beginning too.
Why does it have to fit into a category? One of Level 42's charms was that they never cared much for genres. I think that's the best way to be. I personally love this song, but I agree that musically it's a bit limp compared to some of their work. (also, the look in Mark's eyes at the chorus? Lovely! :O)
Why does it have to into a certain category?? Its Level 42...and its all good to me and its actually NOT the weakest tune they released...everyone has their own "weak" tune...I for one, dont care much for "Tracie"..LOVE LOVE LOVE the video, dont care for the song!!! :--)
I agree. As you can see all people want to hear is "best song".."i love them"...but a right comment about music...is hard to swallow. This song is ok, of course, but its not a lvl 42 song.
i agree. a lot of the reviews i've read of their albums just don't really seem to have any good things to say about their music. which is a shame because they are fantastic. they are very underrated. but i love em!
Level 42 is one of those rare bands which just a tremendous pleasure to WATCH them just playing good music without them having to resort to fancy dance moves, costumes, scruffy, rugged or sexy image...If you were on a tight budget for a concert, L42's a good bet. Satisfaction guaranteed.
My sis says that Mark has met him twice and he's the sweetest and most down to earth bloke that she's met. He also has a lot of time for his fans she says.
I am a casual listener of Level 42 and this is a fave song of mine it is very catchy. It was a hit in the UK and is a decent video. I recently bought The Ultimate Collection 2cd/dvd and either version of this video or the one for Overtime was not included. Anyone know why. Was it just a record company thing. Im sure fans would have wanted a complete video collection.
I'm a heavy L42 fan, though not an expert on the band as some of my friends are, and this song is still a favorite after 16 years (I first heard it when the States got the album in 1992). The first time I heard it I had trouble adjusting to the rock guitars. After playing it for half a day the harmonies and clarity of the music hooked me.
Believe it or not, I just discovered this song ... 2 days ago (6 Apr 08) and am completely addicted to it and am playing it over and over again... Guess I'm making up for lost time...
It's tape....Usually electrical or duct tape. He uses it to protect his thumb while banging away on his bass. He's been using tape ever since a gig in Holland back in the early '80's when he was playing so hard that he literally split the side of his thumb and he's been wearing tape ever since. Mark says the sound from the tape isn't that good as playing without it is better but that was his option because he does so many shows and he was trying to save wear and tear on his thumb.
Level 42 were not as big as they deserved to be,maybe thats ok though, they are recognised by those who really get them and appreciate them. They have a sizable fan base and still amaze their followers.
Level 42 has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. That is pretty big. I think cause they never got huge in America was the problem, much like other British bands of the era, Swing Out Sister, Shakatak, Everything But the Girl, etc. They were all GREAT bands and some are still recording!
They still have a huge following, myself included.Althogh they were not as big as they should have been, dear Mr King had one very civil thing to say,"The time we put out a single, there were also other great tunes also released that entered the charts"
buenisimo este video de level 42, desconocia la existencia de un segundo video de "guaranteed", ademas de ser un album maldito en la carrera de level 42.
I discovered this song on You Tube about 10 days and can't get the damn song out of my head!!! But that's okay because I love it. Went out to itunes today and could not find it. What's up with that?
Mike Lindup has the best melodic voice. Mark doesn't look anything at all in his other video "Something about you" He looked really nerdy in that video but here he looks buff and hot.
One of their greatest albums and it got no recognition.
