If you meant the UK show being hosted in America, it was, along with a US-only version of UK Extreme (Headbanger will correct me if I'm wrong). As a result, the US public, sitting in front of the TV, with their Mountain Dew and voting Republican, said "YEAH! GIVE ME SOME OF THAT!", and as a result they managed to get one of their networks to hook up to the BBC and sort something out.

Long story short: US audiences enjoyed what they saw when the UK Robot Wars made a US-specific show, and as such, they wanted their own version. The BBC allowed them to use their UK studio and house robots for the filming, and the rest is history.

And, don't get me wrong here. Battlebots is great. But I really prefer a sport decided by the robots, and NOT by the hazards.

That may be the case, but I just find it kinda annoying if one robot is dominating the entire fight, then loses everything just because a hazard popped up at the wrong time. I suppose the classic example is Killerhurtz vs Mauler.

Mick Foley was the host. The show was on the defunct TNN (now SPIKE) back in 2002, shown only in the USA. The shows were repeated many times in 2002, but then they were taken off and haven't been seen since. Robot Wars is no longer produced by the BBC so unfortunately there isn't any chance this will be coming back!
