The higher the VOD (velocity od detonation) the more shattering effect an explosive has. For example, ETN, Nitro, EGDN, methyl nitrate, PETN, Ect would be good for taking down trees.

If i were you, id make a small hole, just enought to fit about 800g ANFO, and drill it all the way into the center of the tree. fill the rest with sand and let the blasting cap do all the work.

@sejatski I wanted to keep it legal. Taking down a tree isn't high enough priority to risk a long stretch in the pokey.
